Hey everyone, hope ya'll are doing well. In the recent past i've seen that a lot of new PC components and hardware vendors have come to sell PC solutions into the market, which is a good sign. And people independently import PC components too.
I know that a lot of people from the middle and upper middle class who have spare money lying around play games on consoles, tablets and phones whereas PC building is more of a hobby.
I've seen a lot of posts on PG by hardware enthusiasts who build rigs that use the best components. But a lot of people who build their own desktops don't post it on PG (I know I didn't).

So with all that said, do you guys have any estimate regarding the size of this market in Pakistan or at least major cities like Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. How many people do you know who have built PCs for gaming or productivity purposes?
Hope you have a great day.

As far as I know, almost all of the people or at least 70% build their own custom PC. It may not be very high end might be on a very limited budget of 30-40k. But majority of people tend to buy custom made PC.

For me .. there are few compare to boys living in karachi.. like 3 out of every 10 .. or may be low.. they just go to market buy a pre build or add a gpu if needed and thats it .. no time waste no tension ..

Gaming is a hobby and an expensive one at that. PC's while they offer the best bang for your buck considering that it can game, browse web, serve as a home theater machine etc I know that people would be inclined to buy a computer.
Console gaming while cheap lacks the ability to do much apart from gaming and streaming. What i'd like to see is that more people get into PC building. I would like to guess/estimate the number of custom machines being built per year. I think the number is well below 10,000 units for the entire country.

In consoles the console itself is cheap but the cost adds up in the long run.
For PCs you pay a hefty sum in the beginning and then the cost is 5 USD and above per game.
I hope PC gaming can come back into the mainstream in a big way like the consoles have in the past.

Its a matter of preference honestly.

PC Building and Gaming, is very COSTLY initially.
but its cheaper and affordable in the long run.

And console gaming is cheap initially
but its expensive in the long run.

Now, the pros console gaming has over PC is that, people can spend money time after time, eg on games instead of shelling out a huge sum at once.
Compared to the PC Gaming.

So basically, Consoles are still better here for people compared to PC Gaming because they dont have to spend all at once.
instead, they can span it out over the course of time. (making it affordable and MORE managable.)

Ofcourse, the story is different when you take used PC's into account because why wouldnt u want a cheap PC instead of a console which can do better. haha

Also, saying that under 10,000 do that is a HUGE understatement.
the number is well beyond 100K.

If we're taking sales into account ofc.

Alan wake 2 is yet to recover it's development costs. Due to no physical release and no steam launch.
You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
