So there is a heavy metal rock band named Van Halen. Once they were on a tour of america. So they had a booklet (42 pages) of demands what they want for the show. One of the demands in the booklet was "In the backstage room there should be a bowl of eminem. And in the bowl there should not be brown eminems."
[eminem is a brand of sweet toffees].
Anyways after this when the public came to know about this, they said these guyz are just big demanders. And then the group guys said that they were not arrogant but they wanted to make sure that all the demands were to be fulfilled and that's why they wrote the eminem demand. They said that they will check the bowl and if there is no brown eminems in it, will mean that the committe had read the full booklet.

There are lots of instances of that type of behavior.

For example, Matt and Ben included an explicit scene between their characters in Good Will Hunting, because they wanted to be sure executives were actually reading their script. Weinstein was the only one to comment on it, so they choose to sign with Miramax.

Another fun anecdote, somewhat related to your story is that map makers used to include fake islands and landmarks in their charts. So if they would ever come across another map with that fake island, they would immediately know their work was forged.

As I said, there are several cases of this type of behavior; its not really novel or original.
