New Xbox LIVE dashboard release date: On November 1, 2010

Important Information About Your Xbox LIVE Service

On November 1, 2010, there will be a mandatory service update to Xbox LIVE. This update will both add new features to your service and also enhance the interface, navigation, and responsiveness of Xbox LIVE.

Full details of the new features being added to your service can be found on xbox.com.

To prepare you for the update, here are some Frequently Asked Questions and resources you can refer to as needed:

Q: Is there anything I need to do to start the update?
A: Beginning on November 1, 2010, you will receive a notification that an update to Xbox LIVE is available as soon as you start your Xbox 360 console. Use your controller to accept the update according to the on-screen instructions.

Q: What if I decline the service update?
A: If you decline the update, you will not be able to connect to Xbox LIVE until the update is accepted. You will still be able to use all of the offline features of your Xbox 360 console. Xbox LIVE features will be unavailable until the update is complete.

Q: How long will the update take to complete?
A: The time required to complete the update will vary based on your Internet connection speed. However, for most users, the update will require between 5 and 10 minutes to complete. You will not be able to use your Xbox 360 console while the update is processing.

Q: How will I know that the update has completed successfully?
A: Once complete, your Xbox 360 will restart as usual. You will notice a change to the layout of the Xbox LIVE Dashboard, a new color scheme, and new fonts being used.

Q: What do I do if the update does not complete successfully?
A: In the unlikely event that the update does not complete, please visit www.support.xbox.com for information. This is the best resource for resolving any issues with your Xbox 360 console or LIVE service.

The Xbox LIVE Team

For all of you Xbox 360 owners and fans, we have some good news regarding the next Xbox 360 LIVE update. Apparently, the 26th October 2010 has been set as the date for the new dashboard upgrade. This new Xbox LIVE experience will be available to all of the gamers in the world before November 4th, the date for Kinect’s launch.
Along with the Zune and ESPN features which came to the public from Microsoft, we now have some extra info about the changes in the Xbox 360’s dashboard. These upgrades, 8 in total will help improve your experience while using your console LIVE.

Many gamers, if not most, prefer engaging in some heart-stopping action with their friends rather than doing it alone. To help ensure you get the best features possible, the new update will have improved voice quality, by upgrading the audio codec, thus guaranteeing a better Xbox LIVE Party, when you feel like playing a multiplayer game with your buddies, catching a sports event, or even a movie. Also, the bright minds that came up with this upgrade made it easier for you to choose a Gamertag. I know how frustrating it can be when thinking about a Gamertag and coming up with a great idea to realize it is already taken, so you will now be able to choose from some suggestions. As your Avatar will spin a wheel, you will be presented with five alternative options at a time to choose from. You will also get a virtual keyboard, so that for example, signing up for LIVE within the dashboard will not be such a burdain anymore.

How many of you get sick of pressing yes, and next, and ok until your hand goes soar before being able to download what you want from Xbox LIVE Marketplace? Well, the solution is a reduction of steps you have to take before getting where you want so you can acces the games and content you are searching for without even breaking a sweat. Also, the Avatars will be more proportional for an improved experience while playing Kinect games. The connection to a wireless network has also been simplified. You will be able to see a list of the networks your console is in range of and select one or configure the one you are already connected to. You will also be granted the ability to sign-out other controllers. After all of these great improvements, I am happy to announce a last one. Finally, you can show off your impressive collection of Achievements and completed games, thus instead of being able to view only the last dozen games you have finished, you will have a new way to browse all of them.
That being said, I am sure gamers all around the world can’t wait to improve their Xbox 360 LIVE experience as soon as this update will be available, so get ready and as soon as it arrives, get your hands on it because it really sounds like it’s worth it.

This dashboard update will not affect you in any way. However, if you are a pirate, and you have an Xbox with a flashed DVD drive to play burned games, you’re outta luck. Microsoft has coded a live banning system into the new dashboard to moniter what firmware your DVD drive has. If it doesn’t match what they have on file, then congrats. You are now the owner of a banned Xbox 360. This affects the “undetectable” iXtreme LT firmware as well. If you have a flashed Xbox, do not update..
Guys if u got moded Xbox 360 then Don't Update to New Xbox LIVE dashboard..... This will disable your mod so u cant play pirated games anymore.....

MS have found a way to stop backup games and it seems like Microsoft added new protections to it. Several users seems to report problems booting certain games from recordable media on 360s with a modified DVD FW.
One of the titles affected seems to be Fable III. The game boots fine from any media on the current dashboard (9199) on a 360 with modified FW, but fails to boot from recordable media on the leaked/12606 beta dashboard; “This disc is unreadable” – while the retail disc will work just fine

Within the new update it has been revealed that firmware information for the consoles disc drive and its connection to Xbox Live can be monitored. This would send information to Microsoft and allow for greater monitoring of modded drives that play pirated games, alterations of drive firmware would then result in an instant console ban.
