Nice. But what if you directly plug the hdmi from pc to your TV, and assuming that your tv is connected to the receiver as well, what would be the difference?
That way I'll only get DTS and Dolby Digital as the TV will output sound to the receiver via optical connection. For DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD you need a direct HDMI connection.

Oh ok, and what about the ARC stuff? Does your tv remote controls the volume of amplifier?

ARC works fine but I don't use it, it's outdated. Everything (computer, Nvidia Shield TV) is connected to my receiver, and the receiver then outputs video to the TV.

The TV remote controls the volume on the receiver without the need of ARC. The TV remote can also control the Shield TV. Even my receiver remote is able to control the Shield TV.

I got the SVS sub from Homeshopping.pk for Rs. 65,000. I got the receiver from Homeshopping.pk as well. The subwoofer's MSRP is for $500 so it's not that much more expensive when you include sales tax. There are two shops in Rawalpindi, HiFi City and HiFi Music. I got the speakers from HiFi City who deals in Monitor Audio, Polk Audio, Wharfdale, Klipsch and a few other brands. HiFi Music deals in a lot more brands. They both have their respective lineup listed on OLX as well.
yar can you give me a rough idea where these two shops are located in Rawalpindi... their ads on olx have disappeared ? any help would be appreciated

4 years ago I unboxed a Yamaha home theatre system here on PG. At that time I was rather uneducated when it came to the world of home audio and just got the best thing I could get with little or no effort (it didn't help that every shop was littered with Sony, Samsung, LG etc). However, fast-forward 4 years and the landscape has changed dramatically. I'm very pleased to find out that high-end brands are now very easy to find. You can get Klipsch, Yamaha, Polk Audio, Definitive Technology, Jamo, JBL etc etc very easily.

I'd been thinking about upgrading my home theatre for about a year now. Finally decided to bite the bullet. Initially thought about waiting till I move to a new house and just start from scratch, but couldn't wait any longer. My current room isn't ideally suited for this but for now it works well enough. Inshallah when I'll move to a new house I'll set it up the way it's meant to be set up.

The brand for the speakers I went for is Monitor Audio. This includes the MR6, MR Centre and MR2. There is no subwoofer for now. That I'll be getting next month. These speakers are unbelievable for their price and they get really, REALLY loud. Playing 4K videos with high-quality sound is an experience in itself. If you aren't picky, you can even get away without a subwoofer as the front towers produce a decent amount of bass themselves.

For the receiver I went with the Yamaha V481. I didn't want a fancy receiver with support for a gazillion channels. What I wanted was a receiver that did full 4K HDR pass-through and supported networking features like Apple AirPlay.

Why didn't you go for Dolby ATMOS and DTS:X receiver ? Its content is pretty much on the market and on the torrent also.

Not a high end rig but a decent entry level setup. Happy listening.
