4 years ago I
unboxed a Yamaha home theatre system here on PG. At that time I was rather uneducated when it came to the world of home audio and just got the best thing I could get with little or no effort (it didn't help that every shop was littered with Sony, Samsung, LG etc). However, fast-forward 4 years and the landscape has changed dramatically. I'm very pleased to find out that high-end brands are now very easy to find. You can get Klipsch, Yamaha, Polk Audio, Definitive Technology, Jamo, JBL etc etc very easily.
I'd been thinking about upgrading my home theatre for about a year now. Finally decided to bite the bullet. Initially thought about waiting till I move to a new house and just start from scratch, but couldn't wait any longer. My current room isn't ideally suited for this but for now it works well enough. Inshallah when I'll move to a new house I'll set it up the way it's meant to be set up.
The brand for the speakers I went for is Monitor Audio. This includes the
MR6,
MR Centre and
MR2. There is no subwoofer for now. That I'll be getting next month. These speakers are unbelievable for their price and they get really, REALLY loud. Playing 4K videos with high-quality sound is an experience in itself. If you aren't picky, you can even get away without a subwoofer as the front towers produce a decent amount of bass themselves.
For the receiver I went with the Yamaha V481. I didn't want a fancy receiver with support for a gazillion channels. What I wanted was a receiver that did full 4K HDR pass-through and supported networking features like Apple AirPlay.
