i intend to share internet (dsl) with a guy living nearby. the distance is about 250 meters. i am pretty sure that routers like WRT54G wont work over this distance.. so anyone with experience regarding long distance wireless networking?

Do you know that by sharing internet your internet speed will be reduced and you will not be able to enjoy the true potential of your internet connection.
If i am not wrong then after 100 meter you will have to boost the signal by switch or repeater because 100 meter is the maximum limit of cable to travel data in a network.

GET a range expander (if you could find one in pakistan) and a high gain antenna for those friends who will share with you.

For short distance it will work but for 250m is like 0.25 kilometre, I have my doubt you could find a cheap solution.
