Marketplace Scams, READ!

Every one who is new here, not very experienced like me or an old hand at PG I'd like to warn you guys about a new way of scamming that I've observed in the marketplace.


The scammer(s) target people who post WTB (Want To Buy) threads. You will receive a text message with a demand for whatever it is you are looking for. Then the
guy will negotiate terms with a view to getting the money as soon as possible. He will claim to be a PG user with a good reputation, the person who fooled me claimed
to be 'coolmypc'. Looking back there are alot of things I could've done to avoid being scammed but I guess I was just careless.

In this regard everyone should be careful, ask for anyone messaging you to provide a picture with his PG username on a piece of paper as in the marketplace rules. Ask
them to verify they actually hold the account by PMing you or something along those lines.

It is very sad indeed to use a name of a reputed person on both forums and in marketplace and scam others.

After reading this I can only say that trust level of people would go down more than it already has...

Agreed, i'm becoming regular on PG now and it hasn't been a full week since I came on. But I realise these things can be avoided, you can never truely trust anyone you don't see in front of you.
Quite obviously my trust in PG is shattered and I have ALWAYS been screwed over when it comes to buying second-hand things. Yet I refuse to give up

If he's smart enough to fool me then he will prolly change the email ID and cell number but I want to know if anyone can trace the NIC somehow?

I think this should be added to PG rules. It would help avoid these kind of scams. If people want to take it from PM to cell phones then they can do so privately.

People are not finding new ways to scam, people are just becoming more stupid day by day. Why on Earth would you just randomly take someone's word when he says he's coolmypc or some other PG user?

Use some common sense when dealing.

what you did was stupid, admit your mistake. some person calls you and claims to be someone and you just believe him? how naive can anyone be. i hope you've learnt your lesson.

common dude mention the whole story. what happened with u. cuz coolmypc (real name faisal zakoori) is constantly in contact with us on unofficial pg facebook forum.

I have seen that people believe in "too good to be true" deals and miss out on important information.

Example, a great graphics card being sold for very cheap. A deal is made. The buyer gets the card and sees that the fan does not work properly. Accuses the seller. Seller tells him to read ad properly because it was mentioned that fan does not work properly, hence the low price of the card.

I agree that common sense is lowering by the day.

u want some one to find the actual information of id card? i.e name and adress?

hi,
i m fantasy1979. this is my personal experience. this happend on last saturday 21-7-2012
i have been scamed by the phone no: 0322-8134530 cnic no; 5120167117719
location he used; D.I.K
name that guy used was; faisal zakoori

i was trapped by a sms from this no in which this guy was offering me cooler master hyper 212 evo in 2.5k without shipping. when i asked him how he got my no and how he know that i m in search of hyper 212. then he replied that he took my no from WTB thread made by me for hyper 212+. after bargaining on rates he finally agreed to sell this cooler in 2k including shipping to lahore.
later on when i enquired abt him he told me that he has nick on pakgamers with the nick 'coolmypc' and his name is faisal zarkoori.
i was on my way to my job place i was in hurry, so i told him to give me the thread link for the sale of hyper evo. but he replied that he has not created it but he can send me its pics with his pg tag. so he asked for my email account. i gave him my email. after an hour he sms me that he has sent its pics to my gmail account. i replied him that i will see these in abt an hour.
after an hour i saw these pics as a attachment in my gmail account.
the email account that guy used was [email protected]
when i further inquired on pg with the nick coolmypc i came to know that person who own this nick was faisal zakoori. also he has 100% +ve feed back on itrade page.
abt half an hour later that guy contacted me again at that time i was at my job place and he tried to agree me to send payment through easypaisa. but i was not in the mood to use easypaisa so i insisted on online bank transfer but he replied that he has bank ac but he cannt stay in line to collect only 2k amnt. so easypaisa was very convenient for him. but i told him that i have never used easypaisa later on he guided me in detail how to use easypaisa. also he insisted to send amount ammidiately. but i told him that i m at my job place so it is not possible for me to send it right now but i will try to send it in the evening after iftari. so he agreed on this.
on evening at 8.15pm he sms me that at which time i will deposit money. i told him that i will try at abt 9pm but he replied that this is small city so every easypaisa point will be closed at 9pm also he need money urgently and he is selling this cooler only bcz he need money badly also he is selling this cooler in cheap price bcz he need money badly. he also mentioned that he bought this for 4200 few months ago and selling it in 2k only bcs of the need of the money. also he said if i m not willing to buy then tell him now bcz he has another good offer from pg member.
so i replied him that i m going out to buy some household items and on the way back to my home i will try to send amt through easypaisa.

so at abt 8.40pm i deposited 2000 to his given mobile no and cnic no. later on i sms him the relating details to colect the money and gave him the address for shippment. after 25 mins he sms me that he has colleccted the money and sent my item through leoard courier servise using yellow box shiiping and also he gave me the tracking no 69838926.

on sunday evening i tried to check my item status on lcs website through online tracking. so when i entered his given tracking no on lcs box it gave info error.
at that point i thought some thing is wrong. so i tried to contact on his mobile but his mobile was off. on monday noon. i tried to again visit on pg coolmypc profile page. and searched through his started threads and finally got another mobile no 0313-9916582
so i contacted on this no i inquired him abt the tracking info relating my item. but that boy told me that he does not own any hyper evo and never sold such item to me. and never collected any amnt sent by me. at that point i was shocked and came to understood
that i have been fooled my that bastered guy.
later on i further explored and came to know that this guy was from queeta and amnt snt by me was collected by him in queeta gpo.
also cnic no he used was owned by SHEER AHMED RAND S/O ATTA MUHAMMAD RAND

SO IT WAS ALL WRITTEN IN MY FATE. WHAT CAN I DO....

Alright I involved a third person, someone who was experienced with PG and only when he said I should send the money as the guy is trustworthy did I send it. Thats about it, I won't disclose the name as he made a mistake and is willing to reimburse me fully.

Fantasy this is almost exactly what happened with me, it's the same guy.
