AoA Guys,
Recently upgraded to an HP Envy Core i5 Windows 8.1 laptop and have to say I'm highly disappointed. Even though the build quality is amazing compared to my last laptop, Windows 8 is shitty and laggy as hell. It eats away battery like there is no tomorrow, Google chrome can't keep up with my typing speed, program get stuck and it just has so many bugs. The windows even though they say is optimized for touch, it isn't as fluent as it should be. I'm not happy at all.

Now my question is as following, should I consider upgrading to a Mac or do you have a better option? Given what Mac OS has to offer is it a worthy upgrade (Must say Yosemite looks amazing) or should I stick with a Windows ultrabook? Will be starting university in September and following will be my needs:

1. Lightweight and easy to carry around a huge campus
2. Great Battery life
3. Fast, I don't want anything to be laggy
4. Will be using it to browse the web, read documents, do my projects, emails, occasionally use photoshop for my Business needs and very rarely play games as most probably will be getting a PS4 for gaming needs.
5. Watch Netflix and movies daily
6. Future-proof, I need the machine to be running for me at least 2 years
7. Beautiful and amazing build quality
8. No temperature and getting stuck issues
9. Great Display screen, full HD at least

When I think about these needs Mac seems perfect to me.

And please as I know next to none about Mac OS, PLEASE state its advantages and disadvantages.

And I don't really have a budget in mind willing to dish out above 1 lac.

Why don't you reinstall your Windows first, and try to add a SSD to it, before thinking to more expensive solutions?

Furthermore, when you are in "Power Saving" mode ... don't let processor go above 20-25% (Visit "Power Options"). Don't worry you will hardly notice any performance difference while web surfing.

Also, kindly update to Windows 8.1 w/ Update 1.

Windows 8/8.1 has many flaws.. try upgrading to windows 8.1 update 1
disable superfetch and BITS from services which free the HDD from constant 100% usage..
check your HDD health..
Windows 8 eats up battery because of so many damn animation.. try disabling them..
Also stop auto windows updates because they are useless, just update it to 8.1 UPDATE 1 and disable it
maybe your battery is old..
Windows 8/8.1 also have a problem with their hibernation, disable hibernation and use proper shutdown method which gives faster boot,
As for mac is an expensive solution.. so do the things i told ya..
im running windows 8.1 update 1 on my core i3 first gen, dell N5010 with 3gb ram and 1GB card and my pc boots in 10-15 sec
PS. I have a 3 cell battery so it gives me about one and a half hour on battery, provided i dont play games and the brightness is down..

if you reinstall windows make sure to use a version not provided by hp (no bloatware )
also add an ssd if the above isnt helping
i have an core i5 430m its a first gen running win 8.1
added an ssd is pretty responsive now

Any m or u intel processor is slow. You will experience a leatning curve for mac, given that you know nothing about it and you will end up wasting more time.

My advice to you is to diagnose and determine whats making the system so slow before wasting ur money. Is it that the specs r shitty or is it virus/too mch many applications are running.

These points basically defines the new MBP retina with haswell. I have not been disappointed with mine at all. The biggest downside is the price. I had to shell out 1800 euros for the 13inch, 8GB, 512GB version. That was my life savings.

If you don't have a budget of over 1 lac then forget about getting a MacBook, let alone one with a full HD screen. The Retina Display MacBook starts from $1300.

If you can afford a rMBP, then there is no laptop in the world that is better, despite anyone here telling you otherwise. I've been using OS X for 3 years now and currently own a 13-inch rMBP. It's just about perfect.

I second that, used my brother's rMBP its lighting fast, and much better than Windows. Even with a buffed up PC, Windows 8.1 still lags, so I hate it. I myself own a MBP, and rest assured OSX will fulfil all your needs like a boss.

Been long time user of Windows. But yeah Windows 8 and 8.1 failed horribly. I always wanted to try Mac OS x. They only thing that keep me away was "Games" there aren't many games on Mac OS.But know things have changed. Console is enough for games for rest go for MAC.

Yes, but from what I've heard, you'll get more than what you've paid for. I'll be getting the $1300 edition.

Get a good SSD for ~20k and you'll be set.
This is a decent idea too.

Get a Mac. Nothing can EVER come close to it.
Mac it is then.
I'll wait for a new release, I guess October will have a new release or should I get a current one?
Also if any of you could list down the good features of Mac OS for me?

uhm from what I know, there are no significant upgrades being brought to the new macbook. However, my strongest advise is to wait for the new one to release just to steer clear from any disappointments that the new upgrade might bring. I'm assuming you don't have any deadline of buying the macbook so waiting a bit should be ok. BTW my mac boots in 5 seconds ( Yes from pressing the power button to getting to your login screen) because I don't have any bullshit startup programs on. And yes, this is the model with the SSD.

Exactly, do you have information on when it will be releasing? Even if there aren't any significant improvements, I'll be able to grab the current model at a cheaper price. I hope we get a touch screen though.

With bootcamp installed, the mbp plays games as well as a similarly spec'd windows laptop if not better. Another reason to get a rMBP with haswell and intel iris. The discrete nvidia is only in the higher spec'd 15in model which IMO is not worth it.

Considering the MacBook Pro timeline, there isn't going to be a huge difference at all. Putting a touch screen on a laptop is pointless.

I own a early 2013 15in rMBP Alhamdolillah and its a beauty. Considering the specs, it's not a beast as compared to a full beefed up PC. But it sure gets the job done. Right now is the best time to get one. Since they won't be upgrading the line before early 2015.

By your posts, you seem to be more bent towards the upgrade, my advice to you will be, buy an ssd, the symptoms you have listed are clearly due to lack of a decent Hard Drive, i was once facing a ditto same problems as yours, upgrading to a ssd cured it.

Price of the Mac does not make it worth it, shelling out soo much money just to "get the job done" eh, with that kind of money you should be looking at a machine that is simply more than that.

You should consider reinstalling your windows, My Asus laptop with 2nd generation dual core processor and 4 gig of ram just boots up in 10-12 seconds max , Yes ! from pressing power button to desktop ( 10-12 secs max ) and i am using normal HDD, NO SSD, i am using windows 8.1 update 1, my cousin is using Macbook and i can safely say that it isn't worth your $1000+ bucks. @Khawaja
