HELP: CPU 100% at idle, 0% when Task Manager opened

So i just recently noticed that CPU is running at 100%, and temps are around 70c.

I launched task manager to see which Process is taking up all that juice, but as soon as i launch task manager, CPU usage drops to 0%, and temps start dropping, and eventually drop to the usual mid 30s.

I am checked the processes running and all processes i see are the familiar ones. As soon as i close the task manager, CPU usage goes back to 100%, and temps start rising.

I initially spotted this on the screen of my G15 keyboard, but assumed it could be keyboard software error, but when i ran CoreTemp to verify, the CPU was actually being utilized 100%, by GOD knows what!

What could be the problem?

PS: I have already restarted the computer.

which antivirus u using?
nod32

Did you check the processes running in the Windows Task Manager?

As an alternative, download this software to check the processes without Windows Task Manager.

yep. all processes clean.

Let me try that software
Its not a virus.

Its Anti Malware Service Executable.

Bing it and you will know
let me check for that

haha funny thing. The software you recommended works exactly like Task Manager. No CPU usage when i open it, and as soon as i close it 100% CPU usage :)

Just install Microsoft Security Essentials. Update and do a full system scan. Most likely a rootkit. It may have infected tskmgr.exe.

Do what mave3 has recommended.
Formate your "C" before fresh installation.
Do not use any other driver for the time being after installation of windows.
Now install Avast, update it and run a thorough scan.

That's exactly what everyone is telling him (Same as the link you posted). His system is infected and a fresh format and installation + a good antivirus is the best option. Don't be a smart ass and actually read and understand the posts before making an assumption.

Yes, this is the correct method. reinstalling from backup will again infect the system if a virus is residing in one of exe files in backup folder.

I have checked that link, but according to that person: "I can see the "Antimalware Service Executable" process begin to use much CPU and Disk resources".

In my case, i dont see which task is using up the CPU.

Nevertheless, i have started full scan of PC; both anti-virus and anti-malware.

So the scans completed with no concrete results. Restarted PC, still the same problem. Even scanned with Super AntiSpyware.

I shall start closing services now.

Alright. Stopped each service manually in "services.msc" to see if any service after being stopped would not eat the CPU, but again, no luck.

OK, do this. download this utility HiJackThis | Free software downloads at SourceForge.net and post a log here so we can actually see what's going on.

ok this is just weird. ITS FIXED! BY ITSELF! After posting the above last message, i just looked at the temps (coretemp) on tray area, and they were normal. Then i assumed Task Manager was open, but it was NOT!

The problem is, hence, SOLVED! (for now i guess).

Let me just restart the PC to be sure of it.

EDIT: hahah the problem is back even before i restarted the PC :p It back on 100%. Damn!

So by starting HijackThis, CPU runs normal (similar to starting Task Manager); and i thought the problem was fixed :(

Clearly, you haven't encountered this on your system, have you? Because I have and know that its the same thing. And I think I read and understood just fine.

/QUOTE]

You mean there is nothing in the CPU tab?
Hmmm...
Click o nthe CPU tab and set it in descending order.
Now, when it hits, open task manager by Ctrl + Shit + Esc and you can quickly see what was it that was eating up the CPU
