I think the VR tag pretty much killed anyone's excitement for me.

Though Valve PR is calling it a "flapship" VR title, something they can't (or don't want to right now) do on a standard keyboard and mouse.

I give it a week or so before it's emulated on a monitor screen with controller support by the modders lol. I look forward to this game, seems like the first AAA valve title in a long time

Between this and Asgard's Wrath (sorry Blood and Truth and lulz), VR is relevant for AAA quality games.

CerebralTiger I guess you are right. This game is made for VR from the ground up, judging by the trailer. Even if they somehow make it work with keyboard and mouse/controller, it will be very janky so nothing for us poor non VR folks then lol.

Great, now get the hardware too. And make sure it supports 21:9 aspect ratio :hah:

Clueless as ever regarding anything VR

Sorry Asgard's Wrath, but you didn't quite get there

Astro Bot is as AAA as platformers get. PSVR also has RE7 in VR. VR has been relevant for AAA quality games for a while.

Great to see that the team at Valve has been in touch with Marc Laidlaw.

Original Half-Life writer Marc Laidlaw left Valve in 2016 after 18 years with the company, so he won't be taking the lead on Half-Life: Alyx. "As with all Valve games, the writing is a collaboration between the writers and all the animators, actors, and the level designers who implement the narrative within the game itself," says Coomer. "While Marc hasn't worked on Half-Life: Alyx directly (he's probably lying on a beach somewhere), he's been generous with his time answering all the writers' questions throughout the game's development."

The fact that we are getting a new Half-Life game from Valve before any major Sony first-party could begin to think about VR says it all about PSVR and its importance to Sony

This is also Valve's first relevant game in forever while Sony first party is pumping out dozens of games annually to be fair :p

Also, JapanStudios, Media Molecule, Evolution etc are all major first party studios who have made VR games.

I was talking about PSVR which has been out for 3 years now :p

No, none of those are good examples of major studios who worked on VR games. Its either sub divisions, smaller teams or collaborations with lesser known studios. Not the same as Santa Monica, Guerrilla Games or Naughty Dog working on a game that works exclusively on PSVR as their next primary project.
