Valve is already making games that its core audience plays in millions everyday.

Valve created earth shattering, industry defining Half Life when Naughty Dog used to make mario 64 inspired Crash Bandicoots hehe.

So lets just put it simply, let Alyx be to Astrobot what Half Life 1 was to Crash Bandicoot.

He also thinks Star Citozen is the first true next-gen experience. While it does have a lot of potential, anyone who's played the game in its current state knows it's not even close.

I have interacted with him on neogaf before he started working for DF, and based on that he definitely is a fanboy. Though, he tries his best to conceal it. Go through his Star Citizen video where he calls it a next-gen experience. Being an early backer of the game who tries it out every now and them, I simply cannot agree.

Astro Bot is just as much a game for kids under 9 as Mario Odyssey. These games appeal to a wider audience, and I don't see anything wrong with that. Astro Bot's appeal comes from how deeply the head tracking + motion controls are integrated into its level design.

P.S I don't hate Valve. I'm looking forward to HL: Alyx. But let's not forget that games like Astro Bot, Resident Evil 7, Lone Echo, Asgard's Wrath, Stormland, No Man's Sky, and Blood and Truth already exist. Even Hellblade can be played in VR on PC. There's no shortage of killer apps for VR.

A quick search reveals that he has made no mention of the game on the forum since then, meaning that he very likely hasn't played it. Even if I disregard his fanboyish intents, it's understandable why he would believe there's no VR killer app currently in existence today.

Ironic part is how a die hard Sony fanboy, someone who even fell in love with EA Origin as soon as it was announced because he hates everything Valve/Steam related, is leveling fanboy accusations on him - which to be frank, are leveled on journalists/reviewers all the time. Alex has also been accused of being a Sony fanboy so theres that :lol:

But lets not gloss over the fact that John Linneman was also part of the video who did not even make a passing remark on Astro Bot either. Not only that, Digital Foundry never dedicated a video to Astro Bot, including the only person with some "wisdom" on their team i.e. Richard Ledbetter. But lets also blame all of that on Alex because he holds a different opinion lol

lol in my defense, I got it back in 2013 for like $30, when the dollar was a lot cheaper. Mainly looking forward to the single-player portion called Squadron 42, which is due next year. Not really interested in the persistent universe or all those expensive ships.

That tweet is nothing more than a failed attempt at damage control. Many people on the forum he frequents have taken note of his actual biases. They aren't hard to spot.

But let's not gloss over the fact that I don't consider John Line man to be any better than Alex Battlestar Galactica. DF as a whole dropped in quality and stopped being relevant to me ever since these two took center stage. Kind of sad, since I was the very first person to share DF articles on Pakgamers back when they were starting out.

DF specializes (or used to lol) in game tech. Their opinion on whether a game is the "killer app of VR" doesn't hold any value outside of graphics tech. Wait for previews/reviews from game journalists, not tech journalists. Astro Bot has already proven itself as a killer app for PSVR. Half-Life: Alyx may well prove to do the same for Valve Index and other PC VR HMDs. Time will tell.

Designer Greg Coomer reconfirms that the "initial" release of Half-Life: Alyx will be "available for SteamVR only". It definitely sounds like Valve is aware of the desire to see the game come to PSVR, however: "We believe Sony’s VR platform has been a huge success for the medium, and we assume that lots of Sony customers would love to experience this new chapter of Half-Life."
