rapchick killer, I am not much of a game programmer. I am more interested in gathering a small team and build games. I have mentioned in another thread that I own a company in singapore that does mobile softwares and we have marketing power to sell games in asia and europe.

mobile phones is better approach business wise as games are not hugely complicated. have you seen the games being built with accelerometers.

I changed code of one Nokia 3D example and used accelerometers. It is really fun to play games like that. No need to press multiple small keys anymore.

Wow.. i just saw some more stuff about accelerometers.. turns out iphone has a lot packed into it.. but thats only iphone specific programming.. do you think making iphone apps is such a good idea, as you will be limited to such a small audience..

And i totally agree with your pov about mobile programming.. it is definetly is a much better field from the business perspective specially for smaller firms.. you can finish a project in a few months and then get a quick return from your investment..

Btw are you faizan? Have you talked to aamir shah about this too?

hi rapchik
No it is not specific to iPhone. N95 also has accelerometers and some nokia phones also. Windows mobile is coming with it too.
This is industry trend now and end of this year most high-end phones will have accelerometers. The accelerometer chip costs like 2-3 dollars for a mobile manufacturer.
iPhone has 26% USA Market share in smart phones now.
So, i want to target for all 3 platforms.

Anyway, I am not talking about accelerometers only. I think of it as an alternative source of input. it makes very less difference to code itself to use accelerometer or keys for turning left/right than it makes difference for user in game experience.
I also don't mind flash games for Mobile phones using Flash Lite.

Checkout http://mosh.nokia.com/user/FadiChehimi/uploads for an N95 game demo

Yea saadat ali shah.. well he told me about you.. and i am kinda interested in this field..

yea ur rit.. i saw a lot of hype about iphone programming when the iphone was released so i thought it had it own sdk and u were thinking about working on that.. but yea the accelerometers can be controlled from symbian coding which will be basically general coding for all cellphones..

I am glad to see you are interested.
Symbian is pretty hard to program OS for its lack or proper docs and sometimes even OS libraries. But with Open GL ES it should make it more standard for games .iPhone has Open GL ES also and iPhone released its SDK just recently.

if you want, feel free to contact me on MSN also.

The Land Down Under
Hi everyone. This is so nice to see so many people with a passion for game development. I guess I should sign up too. I have very little-no experience of GAME development. But I've worked with 3d APIs. My best accomplishment is a true 3D camera implementation, reflection through stencil and almost got the reverse carmack algo for shadows implemented.

I'd upload/attach some stuff when I get back home. I'm a Computer Science graduate from KU and we got 6 credit hours with CG and Advanced CG courses. But we're taught the very basics in that course. I had dived into game development before these courses though. I went through the Directx9.0 tutorials at 32bits.co.uk as my initial learning sources.

I've done some work using Directx and Glut. But they're mostly static scenes with some kind of mesh placed and me roaming around it. That's that. I've done some very light animations as well, I understand the concept of designing scene graphs however.

Of course, two of my biggest probs are my laziness and my full time job. Though I still play games and there's always been a soft spot in my heart for game development, I've never eally considered it as a profession, seriously - dreamed? yes, considered? no. So let me know if I can fit into the team and do something.

I'd post more details about what I already have learnt. And it'd be nice to have some guidance as to what should I learn further and from where. After all, I AM a CS graduate and a team lead at my current software house. Working on web 2.0 these days. C/C++ , C# , AS3.0, etc...languages are never a problem for me and I consider problem solving as my strength. I managed 4GPAs in both of my CG courses and I've always been strong with Maths.

But I'm lazy. Here's a screenshot of my ACG project:

This li'l interactive robot walks in 2 axis with a funny animation. Its robotic arms move as you expect them to. There's a simple bit of lightning, no shadows but reflection through stencil buffer. Of course, there's texture on the room's walls floor etc and a skybox to wrap the package. I was adding volumetric shadows to it too, have implemented it half way in another workspace but that was the last I worked with computer graphics and it's been over a year now. Would upload this app and share the URL this weekend inshAllah.

I have no content yet. I am interested in building a game company and for that I am looking for game programmers as part of initial research.
If you know some guys, kindly ask them to contact me.
