Free time what to do

hey guys

i am taking a break from my university studies and wanted to do some short courses in computer like web designing/development or some graphic designing course.

can you suggest what would be good, i have my eyes on web design/dev but if you can suggest anything better i will def. consider it,

secondly i am in lahore so can you tell me where to do the course from, what good institutes are here.

On a serious note, from a career POV. Firstly taking a BREAK from Uni is a BAD IDEA. Take less courses, dont skip it. Courses that would compliment your field would be good. Example if you are in the Finance field a basic course in Oracle use would help as alot of companies use Oracle for their Financial Systems.

wait ur taking a break from uni -> so i'll assume ur in masters. Dont do that! pick courses in which you will have to use the stuff that u intend to learn in this free time.
for example if u wanna learn sql in ur free time by breaking from uni, dont break from uni just pick a course involving databases
if you need help in selecting proper courses like this just ask me here or via pm or vm.

Well there are technical skills and then there are soft skills.

Pick up one course/learning in the area you think you need improvement.

also.. READ! Get some bookses and get busy.

ALSO, learn some home-improvement skill. Gardening, cooking, the likes.

should have been clearer on taking the break, i was studying in UK uni leeds BEng Mechatronics. i have already basic knowledge of C language and programming and all the courses they teach. Financial problems so it took a year off from uni. iA will start next year in september so have till then.

i want to these short courses as a hobby you can say, maybe do some small jobs like on freelancer type websites when in need of some extra cash if ever needed.

So what do you guys say now.

if you have the skills then i am pretty sure you will be able to make some decent cash from freelancing
make some cash and invest some cash..
then make some more cash..
rinse and repeat

not a lot, studied a module for that, just the basics....but have forgotten some of it, will remember if i practice it again.

since ur into mechatronics i would really suggest u to get in controllers, processors and embedded development. it will help u in ur study, job hunt and in free-lancing as well. If you want to go for it and need guidance I'm here.
and if you're more inclined towards web development then i guess there are others here who can guide u far better than me.

EDIT: googled pro-e and its like CAD, i love this thing, i have studied Solidworks in both years 1 and 2 of my uni and love to work on it. am pretty good at as well.

its not a course, its more like a field and subject which gains to your experience.
If your specifically interested in a course then take a look at http://www.embeddedsystemstraining.co.uk/ , courses of this are not of long duration bcoz its basically C langauge which you already know pretty well. What varies is just the technical specs of a micro-controller. The essence of this is projects. A perfect project for your field would be something like a robotic arm which can actually lift and transport stuff bcoz it will involve mechanical and electronic and software designs equally. and since ur in uk and not pakistan such research projects are alot easier to get from industries from there which may help u in permanently settling there with a job.

hahaha........easy for the upload king to say this........i want to learn something as well which will help me in future. i know making websites is a good side job or when you are short on cash, so iwanted to go for that. can you suggest any good institutes and what other courses should i do like flash or corel draw.
