Don't deal with shopkeepers on OLX! They are scamming b@stards!

This is a sob story really. I made a stupid gullible mistake of dealing with a OLX scammer.

It is a featured ad (meaning he paid OLX to show his ad to everyone). He has many other ads on his profile.

Obviously the price for the content was somewhat attractive, which caught my interest (Remember the old quote "if it's too good to be true, it probably isn't").

I contacted him on call & whatsapp & he sent me pics & details of the product. I asked him for cash on delivery. (he's in multan, I'm in karachi). He said i have to do half the payment in advance (this should've been a red flag). I told him I'll pay 10k advance, and remaining 12k via cash on delivery. He agreed.

After payment, he started bullshitting me about how TCS cash on delivery service is out of order & i either have to wait for service to fix (which apparently will take 8-10 days), or pay the remaining amount in advance.

Obviously I'm not stupid enough to pay this scammer even more than i already have, but there's nothing i can do to retrieve the already transferred amount.

I already asked him for refund, to which he disagreed. I told him I will contact the cops, he said go ahead (this filthy behavior confirms that he is a scammer).

Now i have convinced myself to forget about it and move on, but it is very hard to do.

I want you guys to never repeat my mistake. Hence I'm sharing the story. Feel free to ask any questions.

Also, there's the possibility that a PG member from Multan is willing to help me out on this. You could go to his shop & tell him that you're my relative, check the phone on my behalf & if all is well, then buy it for me.

I will pay you the remaining amount of the phone obviously (12k), and maybee 500-1000 extra for your time & effort.

The worst part is that there's no legal action i can take against him. At least none that will bear fruit in Pakistan. Such a miserable feeling to experience...

I don't know what you were expecting. OLX is a seller to seller platform, no one on PG can take responsibility or do anything about it but feel sorry for what happened.

If a PG member form Multan chooses to help out, good on them, but no point in trying to guilt trip this forum.

BTW, if someone from Multan wants to buy that phone for yourself, you may do it. You only have to pay him the remaining about (12k). This is only possible if he really has a real shop & he doesn't back out from the deal entirely. (he's a scammer after all)

As a gesture of gratitude, you may send me a part of the amount I've paid him (10k). It is not required, it is upto you. In either case, it can be a very profitable deal for you.

I don't feel bad for you at all. What you did was incredibly idiotic. And please don't blame Pakistan for this, this idiocy would have resulted in the same situation anywhere in the world. You want legal action, did you bother to find out who the person is? His CNIC before you went ahead and sent him 10k?

Although there's not much hope, report it to FIA Cybercrime Cell anyway. They may call you (after months) to submit evidence and other details, after which you may follow up with them.

Never buy a product without going to exact location . The address that you have given is a fake address .no mobile shop exists there . Report your case to cyber crime with evidence and share the number of scammed with them .

well i got scammed to. from sadar bought a NON PTA approved device but shopkeeper was constantly telling me it's PTA approved and even he had a paper on his door that PTA no warranty. : (

Bro don't let him get away. Contact National response Centre for cyber crimes. You must still have all the messages, payment history, his ad etc. Send him a message that if he doesn't refund the amount, you'll contact FIA then He'll have to deal with them for a lousy 10k.
If you do let him go this time then he will definitely scam some other poor guy cause he will think he's above the law. Give him 3 days to respond. If he doesn't contact FIA immediately then & send them all the details.

I have just submitted a complaint to the FIA website. I have also sent a complaint to OLX support desk.

Let's see if this bears any fruit. I'll update you guys about any progress.

RULE OF THUMB Don't buy anything outside of your city on OLX.

even when you deal hand to hand sometimes the phones are not good and i don't buy them.

recently in ramazan something similar happened to me as well i wanted to buy a spare part of my mobile the seller was from Lahore done with all the details he said he will send me the item and i will have to pay him the shipping cost then he will send me the receipt and i will have to pay him the rest of the amount.

then i sent him 400rs for the delivery cost and he sent me the tcs receipt but it was folded and it was not showing my name and i asked him to show me my name and address and he didn't and started to give me excuses that i will show you your name and address after payment then i asked him what kind of shit excuse is not to send me.

Then i gave him theek thaak galiyan on sms and whatsap and spammed him with abuses and curses for the next 2/3 days and that's how i learned this lesson in 400rs that not to buy anything from other cities from OLX.

Pakgamers is much safer in this regard MashaAllah thanks to the trader score system.

plus you have to be careful here too sometimes even the big guns can mini scam you

BTW, I did not get any response from FIA as of yet. Someone on previous page said they'll respond after months. I guess he was right.

It would be useless then though, because the scammer would likely be untraceable by then. Pakistan really needs to improve it's government agencies...

why not contact olx that your premium sellers are doing fraud may be they can do anything or atleast block him from olx so other people could not be victimized by him
