[h=2]Dark Souls 2: Crown of the Ivory King DLC is delayed[/h]

Dark Souls 2: Crown of the Ivory King, the third DLC chapter for the Dark Souls sequel, is being delayed on all formats, Bandai Namco confirmed today.

The DLC release, originally scheduled to launch on Sept. 24, will now see a release on Sept. 30 for Steam and Xbox Live. The DLC will launch for PlayStation Network on Oct. 1. Publisher Bandai Namco offered no explanation for the delay.

Crown of the Ivory King, the final downloadable add-on for Dark Souls 2, will send players to a frozen, desolate land where blinding snowstorms and ice-covered monsters will deliver what may the game's most difficult challenge yet.

The new add-on will also introduce a new gameplay element to Dark Souls 2, called followers. Over the course of the downloadable content, players can gradually accrue followers - allied, AI-controlled characters - who will help them in a battle against a tough boss character. The more followers a player has, the lower the difficulty of that final fight will be.

Check out our interview with game director Yui Tanimura about what you can expect from the upcoming release.

Wow, what a horrible departure from the original Souls style and Miyazaki's legacy. FromSoft's "B-team" have lost their way. They're barely functional without his guidance. I'm sure he's immeasurably disappointed at what this game turned out to be. The sooner this game finishes up, the better. And I hope to god it doesn't prolong it's unwanted presence by coming out with a current gen consoles version.

[h=2]Dark Souls PC is making the jump from Games for Windows Live to Steam[/h]

The Windows PC version of Dark Souls is finally moving away from Games for Windows Live platform, publisher Bandai Namco Games announced today. Starting next month, players of Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition will be able to migrate their games and game progress to Steam.

Starting in November, players will have the option to redeem their existing Games for Windows Live tokens on Steam to get a copy of the game at no additional cost. And, for a limited time, players will be able to transfer their characters, save data and achievements. Dates for the character migration period haven't been announced.

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition has been a holdout among games that have shifted from Microsoft's Games for Windows Live to Valve's Steamworks. Bandai Namco said earlier this year it planned to keep the PC version of the game "fully functional" on GFWL, but was "seeking avenues to continue support and ensure the functionality of Dark Souls on other services."

Microsoft said in a support update last year that GFWL, which launched in 2007, would be discontinued July 1, 2014, putting online features of dozens of games at risk. The company quickly pulled that notice, but multiple developers using Games for Windows Live have since transitioned off the service to Steam. Microsoft said in June it would continue to support Games for Windows Live.

Look at the bright side, I made you finish a Dark Souls game for a change (provided that you were the one who actually played the game ;))

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
