Hi Guys,

Once again I seek help from PG members, I have a tiny gaming PC, I wish i consulted PG before ggeting the system in the first time, so i cud avoid the technical mistakes facing now :(

Here are my system specs

i5-2400

P8H61 MLE Mother board

MSI 6790 graifics card

4GB DDR3, XMS 3 Ram

500 GB HDD

and Silverstone 500 Watt power supply

Now the thing is that I can play games well, but when it comes to games like Far Cry 3 or Prince.of.Persia.The.Forgotten.Sands my system lags. I can play them well by seleting low grafiz from game options

On the box of my card, it is written that it needs power supply of 500w or more, so I think that my card don’t get enough power to run the game smoothly, I will buy 700 watt supply of coler master or thermal taketo overcome the issue. Thermaltake 730w is available at the price of 7500/- need ur guys option here

2ndly, I have a really stupid casing, so my processor easily gets heat up. Im looking for a casing and I have these in mind

Cooler Master Elite 371 (Rs 5900/-)
Cooler Master: Elite 371

Thermal take V4 (Rs 5800/-)
Thermaltake - Global - V4 Black Edition - VM30001W2Z

and Gigabyte Chassis GZ-G1 (Rs 5400/-)
GIGABYTE - PC Components - Chassis - GZ-G Series - GZ-G1

which one these should I buy, gigabyte is a bit hard to get and so far only on shop “Galay PC” (Galaxy.... Cooler Master Chassis - Corsair Pc-Case - Antec Casing) at 6[SUP]th[/SUP] road Rwp have it, and they will provide me on order from their khi office.

I have watched the reviews of all these on Youtube , but things like things are hard to know until you get your hands on them.

So I would be glad to hear from PG members, I need to get over these problems once and for all.

Waiting For your Reply and my final decision will depend on PG.

Atleast get a radeon 7790, and for the case, get the gigabyte one.And your PSU is fine, don't worry.

send from hell!

Your computer is pretty good for average gaming.
Since you mentioned that you experience lag in some games,, i can only assume your gaming at 1080 p which is probably pushing your card to its limit.
Otherwise, I really do not think that your graphic card is very weak here,,, ( weak though,,, but not very weak).

Try lowering the AA/MSAA/FXAA to minimum,,, that would improve frame rates.

As far as Power supply is concerned. It's adequate to meet your pc requirements so there is no need to upgrade. and what makes you think that your processor is getting over heated ??? Monitor the temps and let us know, because no matter how much crappy casing do you have,,, its pretty hard to push sandy bridge to their limits without overclocking...

If you do have some cash to upgrade, then PSU and Casing should be the least of your concerns for now.. Invest on something that would yield performance,,, which in your case would be a GPU upgrade. Keep the PSU and install a FAN in your casing to have some airflow.

Dude drivers and patches can make the difference b\w playable and unplayable update your drivers and try to find patch for those games. and one performance tip always disable aa and play the game for some time if fps are good like 60 only then apply aa. if you're using full hd resolution you don't even feel the need of aa.

aa stands for anti aliasing.

your power supply is fine for your pc and frankly you don't a casing,as above mentioned just insert one or two fans and you will be good to go.Your gpu is good enough for medium settings but not high settings. You'd be better of selling the gpu and by combining the money that you have saved for the casing to buy a better graphics card like a hd 7790.These newer cards don't consume much power either so the load will be off from your power supply.Your current gpu consumes 150w whereas 7790 consumes 85w.You do this and some tweaking with game settings...you will be good to go though as someone else asked do you have a full hd monitor?if not than this setup will serve you well.

First of all please answer these questions:

1)Which windows do you use,and is it 32bit or 64bit?

2)At what visual quality do play games, meaning ultra, very high, high or medium?

3)Do you turn on Antialising and Vertical sync to high medium or low?

4)At what resolution do you play games?

5)What background processes are going on while you play games, meaning torrent client, internet etc?

haroonshaikh, This is a bit disadvantage, I don’t know exactly what does it mean gaming at 1080 p

My LED is 20" LED Monitor S20B300B - TECH SPECS | SAMSUNG and I’m always on 1600 * 900 resolution.

I use application setting for AA and rest /MSAA/FXAA, I don’t know where are these options,

here is a snap shot of card catalyst control center and settings
http://i39.tinypic.com/vnco4m.jpg

And as you and some other members asks to keep an eye on temp
Here is the snap shot of pc before playing far cry 3
http://i41.tinypic.com/pyi5u.jpg
Both GPU and CPU temp was at 49 C,

I played game, far cry 3 for 10 mins, and after 10 mins, here are the temp, took the screen shot right after exiting the game
http://i39.tinypic.com/2mzwqif.jpg
GPU was at 78 C and it also reached at 81 during the game, CPU temp was raised to 62 C. I put GPU fan manually to 100 % before playing the game

And on hot days and during day time, while playing games, my computer hangs up and on restarting gives error, cpu temp overload right on the beginning.

And here are the settings of Far Cry 3 on which I played game for 10 minutes
http://i44.tinypic.com/116hus2.jpg
http://i44.tinypic.com/168akq8.jpg

There is only one fan on the back of my casing so far.

A Rahim, aa is diabled from game settings

but i like ur seggestion, my card readlly neds 150 w, i dont know, why it is written on its box taht need power supply of 500 w or more

Dear @FUEL2009

Here are ythe answers:

1)Which windows do you use,and is it 32bit or 64bit?
Ans: I use windows 7 Professional and its is on 64 bit

2)At what visual quality do play games, meaning ultra, very high, high or medium?
Normaly I play games on default game setting, battel field 3, black ops 1,2 ran fine
But I changed settings whenr these games starts to lag, far cry 3 and prince of Persia, before that, I don’t play high requirement games, so did not bother to change or look in video quality, just went with default

3)Do you turn on Antialising and Vertical sync to high medium or low?
For anti alising I use app setting, don’t know what is vertical sync
http://i39.tinypic.com/vnco4m.jpg

4)At what resolution do you play games?
I play games at same setting of my pc that 1600 * 900, If I lower the resolution, the game does not fit to my led, this is my LED
20" LED Monitor S20B300B - TECH SPECS | SAMSUNG

5)What background processes are going on while you play games, meaning torrent client, internet etc?
nope, I use nothing, but I use anti virus avast, that is always there, but since I had trouble with these games , so I disabled it,

it is on system try, but its shields are disabled

1. 500W written on the box has reasons. It is for whole system, not only for GPU.
2. For casing, you should first decide what is the budget. However, I recommend this one with few additional fans :
Xigmatek ASGARD 328 Black/Black

3. SilverStone is reliable brand and 500W is enough for your system provided PSU is not repaired OR malfunctioning. To narrow down the issue, you need to check your system with somem other reliable PSU.

4. If there is any temperatur issue, replace thermalpaste of your CPU. For more better results, use aftermath cooler instead of stock heatsink fan.

,
One of my friend also mentioned that thermal paste might be finished, will check that up but gpu temp is also rising

now i understand, psu is fine, a relief, I monitored voltage in bios, it was not fluctauting, and psu is not repired and I believ not malfuncting.

Thx for ur suggestion, ur casing is good, but if neended i will but coolermaster, i think, i has 7 fan options

That is not my casing but availble with IMX next to Galaxy Shop on 6th Road Rawalpindi and also in their Islamabad outlet.
It depends on your personal like an dislike. Otherwise, coolermaster casings upto the range of 6K comes with very thin and inferior qualilty material as compare to Asguard.

Beside limited airflow option, CM Elite 371 has no cable management thing. Your system will look like this :
Spoiler: show

Asgard 382 provide you sufficient room for cable managment. When there is good cable management, your sytstem not only looks pretty good but it provides good airflow as well meaning thereby controlled temperaturs and better performance.

I apologise for using technical terms. Since you are gaming at 1600 resolution, i think your GPU is performing fine because Farcry 3 is pretty resource hungry.
In catalyst control centre, best option is to select LET APPLICATION DECIDE, and then tweak settings as needed from in game graphic settings.
And now that we talk about temperatures,,, i think they are perfectly fine.
My 7950 on full load with 100% fan speed reaches upto 84 degrees so these temps maybe on the higher side but are normal in your case. Installing a case fan might lower down a couple of degrees.
Your CPU temps seem perfectly fine to me. Anything below 70 degree is safe for sandy bridge. But i do not understand how does your processor gets overheated overnight and gives you an error..

Try these
1- Clean your PC. Take an air blower and blow out all dust from your processor heatsink fan and GPU fan.
2- You can aslo reapply thermal paste but the life span for thermal paste is usually high,, atleast 2-3 years before it dries out..
3- Always tweak the VIDEO settings of games whenever you play them,, a good way is to keep resolution maximum supported by your moniter, keep AA/MSAA to 0, and other details to medium/low accordingly.

How often do you clean your pc? i have minor doubt that its dust problem. thermal paste do not dry out that soon. i am using my graphic card for 2 years and did not reapplied thermal paste once, and Alhamdulillah Temperature are still fine.

try cleaning your gpu and processor, since you are new to pc hardware do it without removing heatsink. Its very easy you can use blower or paint brush, i personally recommend paint brush since its more newbie friendly, clean the fan and aluminium foils.

you can google (Heat sink aluminum foil) to understand what i mean by aluminium foils.

I'm also using cm (Cooler Master Elite 334) casing with one fan only! needless to said my cable management sucks too but temps are still fine. so i recommend before buying anything first try free methods like cleaning(if you haven't already done it)

haroonshaikh, my room is on the top floor , and my room is already pretty hot. it takes the stroke of sunlight all the day long. plus, i neva tried cleaning my pc. Now i will clean it , will buy blower in a day or two and will blow out dust. I have put a chassis fan, that I am using inside out, it is at the back and throws air inside, and normally back fan is used as an exhaust, i might go for a new casing, coz i hate the existing one too :),

appreciate u looked into the matter, will try all 3 points u mentioned,

- - - Updated - - -

A Rahim, did u play far cay 3, do let me know what was the highest temp ur GPU reached while playing any game

my cpu throws out hot air, feels like a heater sum time,

i neva cleaned my pc, now i will do it, and u have mentioned the way to clean for a newbie, will google it and plan my steps

atleast i have been pointed out in a direction by great pg members like u

Thanks :)
