MULTI Capcom Aggressively Wants To Partner With And Buy Western Studios, Won't Buy In Japan

Capcom is still strongly interested in partnering with and buying Western studios, but is uninterested in buying or merging with Japanese studios.

Japanese publisher Capcom has released a note to investors highlighting acquisitions and mergers with Western companies as an immediate priority.

The note outlines the need for Capcom to increase sales of its game business outside of Japan to ensure future growth.

"Acquisitions and partnerships are one of the important strategies for increasing our market share overseas," the note reads.

"We aggressively seek the opportunities of acquisitions and partnerships for the purposes of creating game content with universal market appeal and acquiring technologies and know-how required for our 'Single Content Multiple Usage' strategy."

The note discourages any takeover bids on the grounds that they lead to employee departures, which compromises the value of the acquired company. As such, Capcom favours partnerships, which could lead to acquisitions in the long term.

However, similar deals with Japanese companies are explicitly discouraged.

"A merger with a large Japanese game or toy manufacturer is not being considered as a serious option since it would not make a significant contribution to growth in our overseas sales. Furthermore, this type of merger also poses the risk of limiting our activities involving the licensing of game content."

Capcom's focus on appealing to Western gaming markets has been a defining feature of its strategy over the last few years.

They are alienating their previous fanbase, and trying to get into the western media by literally butchering their franchsies, stripping away their eastern appeal to try and metamorphose into something western in hopes on kissing west full on its ass. They are just trying to make some money, i'm not sure how is that wrong? The western market is the one that buys majority of the games. Sure their games will change and their style will be quite different but at the end of the day their objective is to turn a profit.

They not only want to sell shares but they also want the good enterprenuership look at sony what it was and what it has become and thats only due to good leader ship.

So you cant blame them for making western games. They'll end up shutting down if things keep going this way. Japanese games dont sell as much as western games. The people from Japan dont play PS3/360 games as much as the western population, can you blame capcom for trying to target the customers which actually play the two biggest consoles of this generation?

The thing is that the Japanese audience is very small as compared to the American and European markets, SO it's no wonder that Japanese devs will want to make their games accessible to the Western audience as gaming becomes more and more popular there.

Capcom used to sell games with their original games. RE2 sold millions way back in PS2 era. If people were so bored of their games, then RE never would have acheived that success. They are changing their games which fans like me have loved for years. so what do they expect? Sales sky-rocketing? I can't believe talented devs - the devs like flower and Journey - hardly get enough lime-light, compared to these lofers. And SE is just the same. Their games have been nothing but poor from X, and the quality has only slumped since then. Tales games are so much better, and it doesn't even make it out of Japan. Mother fuckers...DIE FAGS!
