Buy now, or save?

Hey.

So right now, I dont really have a smartphone and I think the HTC One is amazing, but I won't be able to afford it at all for a long time. I was thinking that this summer I get either the iPhone 4/4S or the HTC One S. I know the one s is undoubtedly better and I support Android over iOS, but really, iPhone isn't really bad either. The thing is, its the continuity that counts. I want a decent phone with whatever I have for around a year or maybe a year and a half. If I get the iPhone, it will probably sell a year later at a high price too, probably higher than the One S. But I can't really say for sure.

Also, next year around September, I'm probably moving abroad so I can buy phones on a carrier so the One will be easier to get, right?

So what should I do?

Should I invest in an iPhone or HTC One S?
Or Should I keep a crap phone and save for One?

Also, a year from now, what would sell at a higher price? an iPhone 4/4S or a One S?

Stop using the iphone 4 and 4S in the same statement thinking they are in any in the same category of smartphones. The iphone 4S will always have higher resale value than HTC one S but the one S will most likely lose you less money in the long run since its considerably cheaper to begin with.

If you can afford a 4S then there is no reason why you cant buy a nexus 4. So any specific reason you arent interested in the nexus 4? The HTC one S is a decent phone but its not an in demand phone so you will lose more money when selling it.

Unless you have too much money to spare, buying S4 or ONE will be foolish. (because of high prices, and because they are not officially available in Pak yet)

HTC One S is a good phone. But for slightly more price, you can get yourself a Nexus 4 (16GB) which would be a better choice.

If you are worried about the Value after one year, then its a fact that iPhones generally have better resale value (consistent) than ANY android phone.

However, if you focus on getting a good phone now, you won't have to change it later. Buy the Nexus 4 (16GB), without worrying about the Price (because i'll drop like crazy anyway).

And till September Next Year, you may have even better phones available so you don't have to worry about it now.

I think One S and Nexus 4 are for the same price brand new. Doesn't make much sense getting One S. However the Nexus 4 is only 8GB.

Thats why he should spend a bit more and get 16GB. If need be he should "save" more for it shouldnt take too long.

One S is a great phone. Its sleek profile, build quality, gorgeous display (SuperAMOLED) ... these factors make it a worthy purchase. (Atleast it sounds tad better than S2's stupid Yamaha chip :tv: ... though nothing special or even satisfactory)

Infact, the only other phone worth getting over S2. The only thing keeping me from suggesting it, is the hell inflated price in market. Some idiots are asking even 30k for a used Set+Charger which is absurd price tag for it.

A friend of mine purchased one for 24k which i personally think is OK, though still a bit high given the specs of the phone.

Nexus 4 is a superb choice given its price tag, even now when new competitors (like ONE and S4) have entered in the market. There are some limitations ofcourse, but that doesn't stop it from being a Great Phone and a Long-Term phone especially for the price.

So yeah, if you have to purchase a good phone, Nexus 4 (16GB) it should be. Otherwise, you are better off not spending any money on these devices and spend on either ONE or S4 as you like.

There are even cheaper choices available in the market too, but only if you want to go there. The Korean LG phones have literally shattered the market of other Chinese phones with their superb price tag and performance. Choices like SU640 (around 16-17k) or SU880 (11-12k). You can sell them again for roughly the same price tag even after a year of usage. (given their specs and performance)

I really didn't consider Nexus 4 because I've own a Nexus S and used a Galaxy Nexus and I personally don't like the feel of the phone. I haven't held a Nexus 4 personally, but given its previous models, I assumed it had a really plastic "cheap" feeling, which I hate. Probably the reason why I like HTC one and iPhone is because the their firmness and their nice feeling in the hand. One S has that too so some extent.

Also, I know One isn't here in Pakistan and if it would be, it'd be overpriced, but bear in mind that I'll probably buy it (if I do) when I go abroad next year. About the fact a new phone could come then which I'd prefer over the One isn't likely, unless its a similar build and a cheaper version of it. Its speed and camera are great. Phones next year will just continue to try and improve that. For example, I really don't care about the S4 or the iPhone5 and I'd rather own their older versions. They are still pretty fast, good cameras, size and don't need the extra oomph to make it an extra phone. I just wouldn't be willing to pay for that is all. Thats all why I really like the One.

Anyway, I'll do some research on the Nexus 4 and see how it goes.

---

Okay, searched up on the Nexus 4 and I like that it has a glass body on its back. But it really looks like a bigger version of my older Nexus S, which i've really just gotten bored of. As for its price, it is a bit higher than what I can afford currently, but probably could later on. Its an option at most but don't really know how it compares to the iPhone, which you've said so yourself, will have a higher resale value.

So...yeah.

Nexus 4 build quality is quite superior to nexus S and galaxy nexus. And how does nexus 4 look like nexus S? Not only build quality but nexus 4 has superb grip as well. You really should try to get a hands on.

the previous nexus phones were made by samsung and the nexus 4 by lg so there is a difference. By the time of next september both htc one and s4 would not be of any use to buy... simply because, if samsung is any intelligent then it would improve anything that is bad about its phones(style and build)... and i don't think you would be in love with htc one by that time too as its camera tech is already a gimmick and cameras would be in the line of pureview 808 by then( sony is working on some right now and surely htc and samsung will follow suit)... i would suggest just buy a normal smartphone like any quadcore one(second hand note2 or nexus 4 etc) and just save money for a year and half... then buy the best you want.

Okay, really liking the Nexus 4. How much do you think I can get an 8GB one for?

Also guys, from the looks of it Nexus 4 really compares to HTC One X, but cheaper. I really prefer Sense over stock Android. I could get a HTC X second-hand or is that a bad idea?

I agree bro 8gb is too less for any high end games and hd movies you are going to put on such a powerful phone as the nexus 4

To the OP And about the htc one x,if u buy it and then plan on selling it soon, you will regret it as the htc one x has very low resale and ive heard the battery life is very weak for a high end phone

Okay, tried out Nexus 4 and One X personally. They both feel good in the hand. Nexus feels a bit better, but its also heavier. They both are selling 16 gb versions first hand for over 40k. Nexus 4 16gb is 41k and One X is 43k. So I guess whichever one I get will be a used version.

One thing I noticed about the Nexus 4 though is that its screen isn't as big as One X despite them both being 4.7 inch screens. This was because of the soft keys taking up a lot of space. They're also really annoying when playing games like gta on.

One question though for people for have One X. How is the battery life? Everyone says its terrible.

If the battery life isn't much of an issue, I'll try going for a used 32 gb version of Htc One X.
