OK guys i want to ask that are ptcl dsl connections are shared?? Most people say that they are shared and drop speed in peek hours and i have not experienced such things on my connection?? So if my area gets more connections does that mean my DSL speed will go down??

If you are saying that they are shared like cable nets are, then no they are not. They do not drop speeds any time. They dont have a peak time or unpeak time. Their speeds remain constant and are based upon the quality of connection and the quality of wires used in your house. Your speed will not go down even if every house in your area has 4 connections each.

Yes they are shared. CIR (dedicated) connections are more expensive and only used by businesses.

Yup they are shared but not like cable net, but these companies used advanced sharing techniques due to which you will not feel that this connection is shared.

Can u plz elaborate what actually is CIR connection?? What dedicated means in these connections?? All difference i have been able to notice in business and home connections is only dynamic IP and voice ports. Business connection has STATIC ip and voice ports opened while home connection doesn't. RIGHT??

committed information rate or cir is a guaranteed connection. For example: 1mpbs CIR connection is guaranteed to allow for 1mbps downloading and uploading 24/7. I don't know about voice ports and other shit.

Bandwidth is too expensive in Pakistan. In other countries they are talk in terms of 10s of mbps and here we are stuck at single digit mpbs or kbps in my case.

yes it is shared in a way when in peak hour the 1mbps bandwidth that u are using is also being used by lets say 8 other users that is why u see speed drops in peak usage hours even if ur are not downloading anything but still browsing kinda sluggish

dont worry wateen connections are also shared
