Why are some people so eager for worldwide destruction?

It will happen one day. Interestingly, it is hinted in the Holy Quran that this will be a surprise event. Large number of people will be caught unaware and they will repent when the event will unfold but it will be too late for repenting. This is what I have come to know after reading a translation of Holy Quran.

As much as I dislike absurd theories/misinterpretation of ancient works; I also similarly dislike attempts from scientists to paint a "not-to-worry" picture. Trust me! These scientists know more then they tell. Though they do not usually tell about potential dangers because people may panic otherwise.
