I consider Bloodborne, Arkham Knight, Witcher 3 and MGS V (and lets throw Undertale for good measure) significantly stiffer competition than Journey, TWD, Far Cry 3 and Dishonored. If Bioware couldn't rise above these, then yeah, that's a disappointment.
I was massively disappointed by ME3. And I feel Andromeda got more hate than it deserved. Both are largely irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. That 93 wasn't even enough to become a unanimous GoTY amidst indie games. Wonder why lol
See, these are disingenuous and subjective arguments:p

All the games you listed for the year ME3 came out, these are all 90+ metacritic scoring games. That's called a very competitive year.

The Walking Dead: The Game - 92 meta
Journey - 92 meta
Far Cry 3 - 91 meta
Dishonored - 91 meta
Mass Effect 3 - 93 meta

If this is not a competitive pool, I don't know what you consider a competitive pool.

Disappointment implies expectations. Even Dishonored exceeded those and ME3 fell short. It says something that you consider that a worthy successor lol
An unrelated good game from a team with good pedigry exceeded expectations therefore the game which won the next highest number of GoTY awards is a disappointment ?

I don't think it should take a hard looking to see how flawed your logic and arguments here are lol. Mass Effect 3 is a disappointment because it won *A MERE 30* Game of the Year awards, and some other games won more .. which were better received and .. to quote your own words .. EXCEED EXPECTATIONS .. thus making them more likely to win more awards ..

We'll see at the end of this year, if Metro Exodus wins any short of 85 GoTY awards it will be branded a complete and utter failure, lol.

Dismissing my posts by calling them subjective arguments (no shit!!!)and posting subjectively picked out scores to support your own argument. Nice, no flawed logic detected :p /s

Mass Effect 3 - 93
Journey - 92
Walking Dead - 89
Far Cry 3 - 88
Dishonored - 88

2015:

Bloodborne - 92
Witcher 3 - 92 (or 93)
MGS V - 93 (or 95)
Undertale - 92
Arkham Knight - 87
Fallout 4 - 87

This is what you called LESS competitive than 2012....holy fuckin LAWL. Bioware literally lost GoTY handed to them on a silver platter lol

Now, the equivalent of what happened in 2012 would be if Undertale won the most awards over Witcher 3 :tv:

We'll see at the end of this year, if Metro Exodus wins any short of 85 GoTY awards it will be branded a complete and utter failure, lol.

Bhai the scores are not subjective, they are factual:

TWD - 92: https://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/the-walking-dead-a-telltale-games-series
FC3 - 91: https://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/far-cry-3
Dishonored - 91: https://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/dishonored

2015:

Bloodborne - 92
Witcher 3 - 92 (or 93)
MGS V - 93 (or 95)
Undertale - 92
Arkham Knight - 87
Fallout 4 - 87

Now by your own logic, if the highest Meta scoring game should have won the most GoTY awards, all of the games in the list are far more disappointing than ME3 :p

You're just proving your own point wrong. Meta =/= GoTY scores.

Also, just so we're clear. 30 GoTY awards =/= a disappointing game :p

You're in your right to think ME3 was a disappointing game (outside of the vanilla ending, it really wasn't). But the moment you say Andromeda was a better game than ME3, you've completely gone off the rails :p

I never said the highest scoring game should've won the most awards :/

I just said 2 indie games winning comfortabllyyyyyy over ME3 goes to show how disappointing it was.

Bhae mera to simple logic hai..

ME2 - 101
TWD - 75
Journey - 57
ME3 - 32

That drop in recognition that too against indies...yikes.

There is no such thing as wrong opinion, but there are certainly bad opinions. And Andromeda > ME3 is the worst of all opinions :p

also .. journey and TWD are *far* from Indies lol

I mean sure if you want a better story which was ultimately fixed due to angry fan base reaction, but gameplay? No thanks.

Say what you will, but one is an interactive novel and other ir borderline walking simulator. Tall order for the old Bioware to climb :tv:

yes, I'm sure Bioware is losing sleep over how ME3 *only* won 30 GoTY awards and not because of how poor Andromeda and now Anthem turned out :p

They sure lost sleep anyway when they had to fix that cluster fuck of an ending :p

Meanwhile they completely abandoned any plans for patches and/or previously talked about DLC for Andromeda. And unlike ME3, there was no fan demand or backlash either .. because no one cared.

Let's see how long they support this clusterfuck of a game that is Anthem. Dragon Age: Inquisition was the last decent game the current Bioware made.

How embarrassing for a studio known for its storytelling to make DLCs to fix their poor story as a result of backlash. Smh.

Ever since that blunder, Bioware has never been the same.

Don't blame the studio, blame the publisher for rushing the game out. Mass Effect 3 had a much shorter development cycle than ME 2 did, yet it was still an excellent game with only one real blemish, the vanilla endings. Which was fixed a few months later.

Bioware was decent up until Dragon Age: Inquisition which was a return to form for that franchise. Everything involving Andromeda and Anthem is what killed them.

See now you're just making up excuses for them. A difference of 1 month to be exact is not "much shorter" lol
The vanilla shit show we got is basically what they always intended. The extended cut was nothing but damage control.

If it was redeemed, wouldn't it do better in the year end impressions? It didn't.
What about the people? The ResetEra of that age aka NeoGAF wasn't that kind to it either (unless #6 is acceptable to you :p) https://www.neogaf.com/threads/neogaf-games-of-the-year-2012-awards.509141/

ME3 is where they basically lost their way.

lo bhai, now you're citing user polls from neogaf :p

you're going to use angry users from forums who hold grudges as your barometer. I don't know what's going on but you're slipping necro lol. Game got well reviewed, sold well and won a good number of GoTY awards even after all its supposed shortcomings and well known rushed development *watch Final Hours of ME3 development video hosted by Geoff Keighley, it's well covered. . But because neogaf users didn't vote it number 1 and because it won a paltry 30 GoTY awards only, Necrokiller thinks it's a disappointing game :laugh1:

Let's ignore how all Bioware games before ME: Andromeda were really well reviewed, even DA: Inquisition is a 89% certified metacritic game, let's ignore all that and blame ME3 alone.

I don't know or want to know about what your rigid criteria for a game being good is anymore, this is a pointless discussion.

Bhae you're the one who had a problem with my opinion in the first place. Would've saved us both some time if you accepted that people have different opinions :p

Everyone knows about the backlash it received and there'd be none if it actually lived upto expectations.

User poll on unarguably the most popular gaming forum which you also happen to be a part of. (So I guess I understand where all this anger is coming from lol). Their word isn't gospel, but in this case it aligns with the general critic opinion as well where its the 5th best game of the year losing to interactive novels. That only leaves die hard fanboys who think it was a "worthy succesor" to ME2 because they got Bioware to fix the poor story for them. Thats pretty much like saying Fallout 4 was a worthy succesor too and one could point at all the awards and have a valid argument.

Yes, for me and many others, ME3 is when Bioware started their decline.

Theres no need to wonder about my rigid criteria. Just google the meaning of disappointment. Hint: it won't be the same as "terrible".

[h=1]BioWare spreads out Anthem’s 90-day roadmap[/h]

[h=2]In-world events and a new progression system build to May’s ‘Cataclysm’[/h]

BioWare offered a three-month roadmap for Anthemnow that the game’s mystifying series of launches and access dates have all passed. With it, the studio’s head of live service broadly acknowledged Anthem’s lackluster debut and promised to improve it over the next 90 days.
“We understand that we have lots of work ahead of us to continue to improve the game,” BioWare’s Chad Robertson wrote yesterday. “Our most recent patch – the one you are playing now — reflects your feedback ... Beyond that, we have a growing list of improvements we’re evaluating for the future. You’ll start seeing the next of those this coming week.”
The day-one patch went out yesterday and has dozens of fixes and balance adjustments. Most of these address issues that came to light during Anthem’s early access periods.
The next 90 days form Anthem’s first “act,” called Echoes of Reality. BioWare first mentioned plans for its Acts a couple of weeks ago. Basically, they’re the end-game content to keep players returning after they finish Anthem’s core campaign missions.
A lot of this roadmap is flagged “Cortex Locked” (Anthem-ese for the in-world journal of lore), but here are the highlights:

  • Things kick off next week with three in-world events, and continue with a series of March updates called Evolving World. These will bring back two of the three events (There Be Giants and Outlaw Outrage) while also offering new cosmetics, items, and the first phase of Anthem’s Legendary Missions.
  • April (“Stronger Together”) is about enhancing interaction and competition in Anthem’s multiplayer. That means a new Stronghold, a weekly Stronghold challenge, leaderboards and guild support. This month begins phase two of the Legendary Missions and a new progression system, plus seven freeplay events.
  • In May, Anthem’s “Cataclysm” starts, bringing another freeplay event, new missions and rewards. No other details were mentioned. There are locked spaces for Acts 2 and 3, suggesting they will close out the last 180 days of 2019.

“I look at today from two perspectives. As a gamer, I’m excited by what we’ve created with Anthem and the promise it carries for a long future behind the game’s lush world, immersive lore, rich characters, and core gameplay,” Robertson said. “As a developer, I know we’ve worked hard to strike a balance of engaging BioWare story combined with fun action-gameplay and multi-player progression; I also know how much more we want to bring to the game.”
Our review of Anthemwas not charitable toward the game as it exists at launch. We found end-game content to be a glaring shortcoming and the combat, while “marvelous,” was poorly supported by the mission design and a plodding narrative.
“In order for Anthem to survive, BioWare will need to clarify its identity and prioritize the right elements of it,” reviewer Russ Frushtick wrote. “Playing Anthem, I can sense where this game is going. I just worry about how long it will take to get there.”
