After having experience with various brands personally, including Super Asia, Dawlance, Panasonic, Mistsubishi (slim & heavy), Hiar (if thats how its spelled), Pel & Orient, i can confidently tell you that currently The Best AC going on in the market is Orient. Locally manufactured, is of decent quality but the Performance is Top Notch. With proper maintenance, it'll easily last you 6-7 years. (But please make sure you don't let any local mechanic touch it. ALWAYS call the company person to get it fitted and even if you have refill gas, call the company man. May cost more but is more reliable)

7 Years back my we purchased a Super Asia 1.5 Tons AC and it was the best thing we have ever purchased. Was OK on power consumption but the performance (and throw) was So powerful that It'd cool my Hall Like Room in less than 10 minutes, and after 30 minutes ... it'll be impossible for you to sit infront of it because it'll start to freeze you. (In an accident, its out door unit got busted about 3 years ago - A Shotgun shells shredded the compressor ... gun fight right outside my door between two gangs was the reason)

I'll spare the details but we currently are running a 1.5 tons Mistubishi Heavy (don't remember the exact model atm). It costed us approx 70k+ (after installation - the cost o AC was 65k something) last season and let me just say ... having good experience in past with Mistubishi, i can confidently tell you that its NO USE spending huge amount on this. Just DONT. Its wasteful. The performance is Awful. Throw is fine though.

So called "Imported Compressor" is just a hoax. Everything is locally manufactured and their sell you "slightly better quality one" for more price premium than locally manufactured.

Orient at about HALF the price of Mitsubishi (either Slim or Heavy) can perform X2 better. You can visit any family person or a friend who have one installed.

So my suggestion would be to go for a 1.5 Tons Orient AC.
Thanks Alot for such a detailed reply Sir.

It was really helpful. I have definitely added Orient to my shortlist.

i believe anything from a latest model would serve you well... and all the companies would be decent korean or japanese but i doubt the chinese or pakistani versions are bad(reverse engineering ftw)... i am myself going through hell right now as my split is old and trips when outside temperatue is extreme(although it would be awesome in humid weather but still issues of ice forming around the compressor and crap like that)... get the latest brand new crop and if japanese are too expensive then something like lg or samsung would be great(they are ruling the world in tech anyways leaving behind japan)

Haier is just fine(not too great and not bad). The one I got in my room(1 ton, 4-5years old, gets serviced(wash after removing, gas, electronics etc if needed) once in 2 years by a local AC repair guy. Basic cleaning is done by myself) gets room temp down to 23-25 C during afternoon(about 47C outside) and in the evening/morning goes down to about 19C. It sold for around 20-25k while mitsubishi one was for about 30-35k (when I bought it)

Mitsubishi used to be very good but lately not so much. We bought one AC back in 2004 and it rocks, literally cools the entire room in half an hour. The ones we bought in the later years sucked ass and couldn't cool the room for shit.

I recommend stay away from Mitsubishi now. I'd say go for Haier or Orient.

well here's my take on ACs.

These are the ones that currently run at home in Peshawar.

the Orient(1.5Ton) AC trips everytime the outdoor tempersture exceeds 40C. the
The Waves AC(1.5 Ton) is in a room that doesnt get any sunlight so it cools pretty well
The Mitsubishi AC(1 Ton) is OK at cooling but doesnt cool well in extreme temperstures
The 2 Haier (1 Ton), both of them placed in rooms that get direct sunlight all day and both can take the room temperature down to 23C during the day and 18C at night.
The General Window AC is the best tho. runs like a donkey all day long and doesnt complain. it hasnt been serviced in 10 years and still runs like new.

ShoukaT! Brilliant choice mate :) Congratulations on your purchase.

Do let me know about the following:
- The price you paid for the AC.
- How much PIPE was used and the price per feet.
- How big is your room.
- The behavior of AC in 30 minutes.
- If its possible, do mention the Gas Pressure in out door unit as well. (Normally its 70psi)
