I think fanboys and haters need to realize that Last of Us 2 is not for everyone. It has charged political undertones, bad PR effort and ofcourse bigotory factors in too.

It leans far too left for its own good. In america, people are distrusting journalists and voicing their opinion. Best bet is to wait for the opinion of someone you trust instead of paid journalists who work more for tge benefit of thier own instead of gamers.

The only controversy is that the loudest mouths on the internet are all pretty much crybabies

Both TLJ and TLoU 2 are critical and commercial successes (going by TLoU 2's record breaking pre orders).

Couple of hours into the game and the combat is definitely a big Improvement from the first one. The tension approaching a combat scenario is REAL!!! Started on the survivor difficulty, I hope I don't regret it.

So yes, The Last of Us Part 2 is a more responsive game than Naughty Dog's previous works. Moving through the world feels slightly snappier all around, but it's the fluid transitions between actions that sticks out the most.

We've seen a lot of top tier AAA releases this generation and it's clear that a lot of other developers are delivering impressive results as well, but there's just something about these Naughty Dog productions that stands out. This level of polish within the context of such a large game is difficult to beat.

First impressions:

- Right from the opening I'm hooked at the story prospects
- Presentation is bar none
- Game play is TLoU 1 with a lot of improvements, not a radical departure from what worked.
- Just the simple act of stealth killing an infected is much more visceral and gory than anything before. I'm ready to have a very unsettling experience through and through.
- Probably the only console game i've played which allows full FoV control, and so far there doesn't seem to be any performance penalties from using expanded FoV so I guess that's good.

ND's PS5 output will just be a camera in a real forest at this rate.

Another thing I'm noticing which the DF video also pointed out ..

Naughty Dog has done a great job of using SSR/Cube Maps and partial reflections everywhere which gives a good 'cheaper looking' but effective facsimile of ray tracing. Of course I'm not saying it looks as good as actual ray tracing, but on the limited and old hardware, this is the best implementation I've seen. Things like curved metallic surfaces on trucks reflect Ellie, which is a simple effect but one I haven't seen most games use.
