pls share some pictures of the set up along with a personal review if possible
i will post the pics later... although it pretty powerful... 7 seperate 100w dedicated amps and it is quite light in weight as well... the sound quality is ok and not super awesome but it is a very effective midranger... my klipsch rb 81iis work well with it... i will keep them after i get the bigger rf 7iis and a sub and upgrade when budget allows...

@HAMMER of THOR @Dark Sith
well nothing beats hall road when it comes to dirt cheap really old amps... they will give you 5-6 months easy:p but will burn out after that most probably as they are mostly repaired stuff... i bought a celestion av-1000 for 5k and it worked well for a few months... it was really good though, the sound was really good...

Salam to fellow pg members. i need your help in setting up a 7.1 surround sound system. first of all i want to tell u that i am a complete noob when it comes to surround sound setups. i am mainly going to use this setup with my PC and mainly it is going to be used for watching movies, as for games i prefer to use headphones.
my budget is around 60 to 65k
i have a couple of questions
q-1: i have read that to connect a 5.1 or 7.1 system to your pc properly u need to have a dedicated sound card. my motherboard specs are as follows
Intel® Desktop Board DH77EB
do i need to buy a dedicated card or my motherboard is good enough?
q-2: as i said earlier that main reason for home theatre system is to watch movies. normally my movie collection consists of full blurays or bluray remuxes. so is 5.1 good enough or should i get a 7.1 becoz mostly in movies there is option 5.1 dts. i have never seen an option of 7.1 dts. if 5.1 system is good then i have decided this system
Onkyo HT-S4505 5.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver in Pakistan-Homeshopping.pk
if you have any other recommendations let me know.

q-3: if i do go for a 7.1 system. i want to avoid any hassle. kindly recommend me some good shops in pindi/islamabad area from where i can buy an amp and speakers? i want good quality so is 7.1 doable in 60-65k?

your help will be much appreciated. thanks

5.1 is good enough for movies. 7.1 is hardly ever properly used. I don't think you'll find any computer speakers which are 7.1 so that Onkyo will do just fine. Hook it up to the SPDIF connector on your motherboard and you're good to go.

I'm a 7.1 user for over a decade.

I've been using them with computer for a long time. I had purchased a PCI Soundcard, the Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro [still have it and might sell it if anyone is interested] which was a 7.1 beast :)

I had also purchased Creative Inspire T7700 7.1 Speaker System which went extremely well with the setup!

All my games and movies ran at 7.1 surround. The amazing thing was, the soundcard could upmix to 7.1 if the source did not support it.

I kept using that system until last year when i built my new PC. Sadly the motherboard I got did not have the PCI slot and therefore I had to ditch my old card :(. However, the built in soundcard did support 7.1 audio but I couldnt connect my xbox or other audio sources to it like I could with my Audigy 2 ZS Plat Pro. The quality of that card still outblows anything that you get with the motherboard.

Unfortunately, Creative no longer makes 7.1 soundcards, all their new lineup is 5.1 which is odd since every game supports 7.1 (PCM format). I had no choice but to move onto something big, such as my recently purchased Onkyo HT-S5600 7.1 HomeTheater system.

I absolutely love it! However when I was setting it up, I thought it would blow me away... yet I was mildly amused. Why? Heck the soundsystem is awesome, dont get be wrong there... it's just that I had under estimated how good my creative speakers actually were. Since I've been listening to them for almost a decade - the change to a bigger speaker system didnt give me that punch. It wasnt a breath of fresh air, just a little better. The onkyo obviously sounds great... its spectacular but man, the creative speaker can really put up a fight against these big boys :)

In short - if you can get a hand on the creative 7.1 system then dont hesitate in picking them up [I would sell you mine but my friend already took mine and connected to her LED]. I do however have the soundcard if anyone is interested.

As for the movies. All movies support 5.1. If you get blurays or download prints with uncompressed audio such as DTS-HD. They can give discrete 6.1/7.1 where supported. But have no fear, the soundsystem (HT or computer soundcards) are capable of upmixing 5.1/6.1 to 7.1 easily.

As for the Onkyo 4505 - dont go for it... look for the 5600 - there is a huge difference in them.

another question, is my motherboard compatible with this sound card?
thanks for your help bro. much appreciated

Yes - but dont use optical out. If you have an HDMI out, use that instead. HDMI is capable of delivering discrete 7.1 audio and 1080P signal simultaneously.

Most modern video cards (nVidia/AMD) have HDMI out which supports audio. I can see your motherboard also has HDMI out.

Optical Out will give you only maximum of 5.1 signal and you will never get discrete audio for the remaining 2 speakers.

Your ideal setup should be:
Computer > HDMI > Onkyo HT-S5600 > HDMI > TV/Monitor

You will require 2 HDMI cables and your sound system will be the bridge between your screen and the computer. You may connect headphones to the Onkyo to get a punchy high quality audio when required.

Hope this cleared out some things :)

thanks for insight. but if i use hdmi wouldn't that limit the fuctionality of 7.1 system specially movies which only have 5.1 dts. btw i have gtx 670. so my connection would be gtx 670-hdmi-onkyo-hdmi-benq projector (w1070)?

Any demo room available in RWP/ISB? Where exaclty is this Hi-Fi City loacted on muree road? I want to built up a system but for music only.
Also any recommendations for AVRs or AMPS brands (since its going to be for music only) which are special for music. Initially I am thinking about getting a 2.1 speakers system and then move on to adding 3 more to make it 5.1 if needed.

Do you guys recommend Bose? if not then let me know for the brands which offer better deep acoustic bass then Bose. Any input be greatly appreciated

EDIT: But please remember I am only ding for the music not movies or games cause I don't play games & listen to the movies in headphones.

Aren't HDMI ports on motherboards limited to stereo lossless?

Score 1 for game pass. I wouldn't pay full price for this at retail either.

Still, I don't like either Sony or Microsoft as they are focusing more on corporate greed than delighting customers. PC gaming is best of gaming and worth every penny.

PC Gamer score of 58/100 for Hellblade 2??? Is it really worse than Gollum that was 64/100? Microsoft games can't even come close to high scores of Sony exclusives apparently.

About the Microsoft (and Sony) debate, I feel both have become too greedy and losing their minds over corporate greed. Personally, I will never buy any console next gen and switch to PC gaming where democracy reins.
