Recently got my 4mb worldcall package, getting awesome speeds which are pretty much constant throughout the download . Much better than 4mb PTCL which at max gave me 100kb/s

On a 4 MB connection you should technically be getting close to 500 Kbs lol

^ I don't have a 4 MB connection...But a 1 Mega bit connection means 128 mega BYTES (exactly) and a 2 Mega bit connection means 256 mega BYTES and a 4 Mega bit connection means 512 mega BYTES...

So if anything, you SHOULD be getting around 500 KB download speed or your connection isn't running at optimal speed.

1 mbps PeeTCL package, a constant 117kbps download speed on IDM here.

Heck! BC 2 MP was absolutely lag free on XBL! with this package, so was SF 4! (sm1)

Yep people are right that you should be getting well over 400 Kb/s. Try a Download manager, I am telling you it might utilize your bandwidth properly.

Damn. You people are getting much less as compared to mine. I got a 2mbps connection and on that I get max. 465 KB/s. And you people paying for 4mbps and getting this much speed. Just think what I will get on 4mbps maybe more than 1 MB/s

If you are getting stable maxes of 465 and not speed hikes, you actually are on a 4mb connection. It is impossible to hit 465 on a 2mb line since the maximum is 2048/8 = 256 if i'm not mistaken, just like how 512kbps is the max on a 4mb connection. To hit a max of 1mbps, you'd need an 8mbps connection.

I know, if you do the maths i.e. 2048/8 = You get around 256. But I'm getting around 465 KB/s on a 2Mbps connection. I'm not lying and I'm paying for 2Mbps connection. Also I'm not on crappy PTCL ISP. I'm on different one. I also have some doubts about this so I called the customer service and they told that this is your speed which we are giving to you.

Why does connection speed have to be divided by 8 to get expected download speed?

Because 4 Mbps = Megabits per second, not Megabytes per second.

4096 Megabits = 512 Megabytes, hence the true speed.
