The official "Windows 8.1 first look" video posted at youtube is great. (y) The inclusion of multitasking in MetroUI is useful. Though, for me, new instruction set of DX 11.1 API and WDDM 1.3 is the most interesting part.

I loved three things when I saw the Win 8.1 Review: More then three Multitasking Windows, Start Menu Button is back which was the main need, lastly the small modifiable tiles which I eagerly needed, where as other stuff seemed okay.

.:: ACTIVATION ISSUES & MICROSOFT TOOL KIT ::.

Anyone facing Activation Issues should now move to "Auto KMS" which is a better solution to your problems. Its exactly what the name suggests it is i.e. It'll automatically tries to activate your windows (and the Office - If you've installed it for that as well) everytime you log in, and you'll never have to worry about Activation ever again.

HOW TO GET?

Head to MDL (MyDigitalLife Forums) and search for user: CODYQX4 w/ Keywords "Toolkit"

Information also added to Opening Post of this thread. Check the first link in "Useful Posts"

Was reluctant to try out the AutoKMS thing, but I went ahead and did it anyway.

Its brilliant. Couldn't get any better than this. Best thing about it, is that its not a hack of some sort. Doesn't modify the system files and Updates download, install and run smoothly. (y)

Glad to see a positive response.

This is not a new thing. Its been going on since Vista days. Heck I've been using AutoKMS from Officie 2010 days.

I only shared it when it got closest to being most stable. Current release as of today, is v2.4.4.

BTW just noticed something.

I usually charge my PS3 peripherals using the USB port of my PC (DS3/Headset)

After switching to Windows 8.1, when I plug the peripherals to charge, they charge for 2-3 seconds and then they're not charging anymore. Never happened with Windows 8 RTM. Switched to Linux and Windows 7 to check and they charge normally.

This could be USB polling issue or something, any idea with anyone on how to increase or solve the issue?

It's still in beta state right? You're almost guaranteed to have minor issues like these. M$ obviously is well aware with "major" bugs already. BTW being a beta tester you're supposed to report such things to M$.

If you guys are using Windows 8 as you primary OS then you should rather NOT install the Preview and wait for RTM/Public Release.

That said, if you still want to try it out the you can do so via VMWare Workstation.

Or if you still want to try out the 8.1 preview, you can grab the ISO and install it on another partition, OR if you want to update your own Windows 8,then be sure to backup your activation. (That is if you activated using the free Pro WMC key Microsoft was giving.

A friend is looking to move to Windows 8, but he isn't the kind to even spend $5 on a genuine product in his life, if he uses a pre-activated version of Windows 8 along with his primary hotmail account will it be safe for him?

TheBrokenMan! Avoid the Pre-Activated (i.e. Cracked, Hacktivated) versions of Windows 8. Pre-Activated ones have some system files messed with, modified to keep the activation.

Its better to use the AutoKMS instead which would keep your Windows in a "Trial Extended" state, hence not really called "Pirated".

Check the opening post for further information.

I updated my desktop PC to 8.1, which had legit Windows(Not the free one). It seems decent enough. Although the lack of WEI seems to be a bummer to me.
