NINTENDO Wii U sells 308,000 units at Japanese launch - Report

The Wii U sold 308,570 units during its launch weekend in Japan, according to data from Famitsu and Enterbrain obtained by GamesIndustry International. Nintendo's first high-definition system launched in Japan on December 8.

Concerning software, the best-selling title in Japan during the period was New Super Mario Bros. U, which sold 170,563 units and was attached to every hardware sale at a rate of 55 percent. In the United States, New Super Mario Bros. U has seen an attach rate of 60 percent, according to NPD data.

Following up New Super Mario Bros. U was Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, which sold 110,159 copies in Japan during the weekend at an attach rate of 36 percent.

According to Famitsu's numbers, the Wii U launch in Japan is the seventh biggest in hardware history for the region. By comparison, the original Wii sold slightly better during its opening weekend, moving 371,936 units with Wii Sports the best-selling game.

No official Japanese sales tally has been provided by Nintendo for the Wii U yet.

Korekado: We really developed the game based on these two consoles [PS3, 360] and the Wii U, we think, is unique in a way that the controller is innovative and the entire console's pretty much not hand-in-hand with the consoles that we're making it for now. So if we were going to make it for the Wii U we'd have to start from zero again and really design something for that console, so we could say 100% that it was a good game for this console.

Nintendo 3DS has outsold PS3 lifetime sales in Japan



Nintendo’s 3DS handheld has – as of this week – outsold Sony’s lifetime PS3 sales in Japn, according to chart score-keepers Media Create. Get the numbers below.

Nintendo Life reports that as of this week’s Media Create stats, Nintendo has shifted 8,799,378 3DS consoles since launch, after shifting 211,499 units last week.

Stacked against Sony’s 8,716,260 PS3 units sold in Japan since launch, and the country has a new champion console. Comparatively, newcomer PS Vita is failing to ignite significant sales in Japan, with only 11,039 unit sold last week, while Wii U racked up 308,142 units in its launch week.

Monster Hunter The Japs just love that game. Although it looks pretty average game to me but yeah japs people have weird choices
But 3DS is pretty bland. It is slightly above PSP in terms of specs and its 3D is shit from what the reviewers have said. 3DXL is big but its much worse than the original in terms of shape and size
