Hi guys,

Does anyone know if there are any good places one can buy archery bows/arrows from in Lahore, or maybe other places as well if they deliver to Lahore? I recently found that daraz.pk has listings for bows and arrows and they sell them for around 20k. The suppliers have their own website as well.

Can you guys also tell me if this is a good price to buy them at?

Thanks.

Magpie Since it's a hobby activity (and a very rare one), I doubt if someone would be able to tell you a "good price" for buying it unless we have any expert here. I'd recommend you to do an online Google research or Amazon window shopping and choose the one with best reviews. Then you could compare the prices from there with daraz's one. However for archery, you need to have an easy access to country-side. You can't do it in urban areas.

Thanks. I'll try to compare the prices but I think it won't matter because it depends more on the build quality and I can't really compare that. I'll probably shoot with the bow on the roof of my house or in the garage, on a target or something maybe, idk.

I got this from daraz: Buy Silk Road Traders Aluminium Recurve Bow - Black Online at Best Price in Pakistan | daraz.pk It is a good bow for its price. I also got arrow rest, stabilizer and bow sight which he sells separately. Arrows are not really that good. they break easily.. but you can always reinforce them.

Adding the string to the bow was hell, I couldnt do it myself and had to take it to archery club here in Karachi. Even that guy struggled for like an hour to get fixed. So do keep that in mind.

Also, I got a 40 lb one... You should do a proper research before getting one. Depending on your body/height/strength.

There is another website: woodsman.pk They sell custom made recurve bows as well as Mongolian bows, crossbows and compound bows. Their bows are made in Pakistan but they also can import aluminium bows for you but ofcourse they will be more expensive.

Lastly, at the end of the day it is a weapon, so be very careful with it.

Wow, thanks for a lot for this. I might just buy that aluminium one. How did you calculate what weight was proper for you? Anyway, I already know about woodsman.pk since they're also selling on daraz.pk. Is this your first time shooting a bow? How were your experiences with it? Did you get bored quickly or is it really fun?

Wait, why didn't they string the bow for you, the people you purchased from? Should it have been already strung?
Also, where do you shoot or use the bow at?

I'm glad to be of help.

I did a lot of research on the internet, all in all it comes down to your height and weight IIRC. I thought "I can do 40lb" and I did.. but the problem is when I shoot arrows for more than an hour, it starts becoming harder to draw. So basically you would know your strength and body and how much weight you can pull. Also factor in how much shooting you intend on doing. My recommendation is go for 20-30 lb, but then again only you know how much is too much or too less for you. If you go for 40 and suppose you feel like its too much, its still fine because you will get used to it the more you use it (kind of like lifting weights). You can always get new limbs and change.

This was my first bow and my first experience with bows. I have had ALOT of fun with it, Most fun I had with it was when I took it with me to my village, thats where I used it with full draw and the distance it covered was impressive. Then I came back to the city and used it with WAY more caution. I do it on my rooftop using around 25-30 ft distance. I sucked at hitting the target at first, then I started getting better at it with time. Its SO not like the games or air gun.. "Figuring out" is the fun part for me.. So it kept me busy alot in the beginning. Now its like.. every other weekend I shoot for around an hour at most. So.. I am definitely not bored with it. It surely is a fun activity that I am into some days and some days its something else for me.

Recurve bow comes in parts, you have to assemble it. It comes with everything you need to assemble everything and its fairly easy to do it except for the string (from my experience) since its a bit tricky.. you should YT how its done it seemed easy to watch but I couldnt get it done. I think only long bows and mongolian bows are stringed. Compound and Recurve aren't.

I made a target myself. Took a cardboard box and filled it with alot of old clothes and foam etc.

If you do get it, I strongly suggest doing it in your garage and not rooftop. I always keep it aimed down when at rooftop and all my target boxes are placed on the floor. However, arrows CAN bounce off the floor and even off the walls if you completely miss the target. So be very careful.

Ok, great. My garage actually has a nice long gully (like 5-10 yards) and I can shoot there, but I thought it'd be better on the roof. Before you posted, I was actually thinking of buying the composite bow that woodsman.pk has listed, it looks so cool, but I want to get the one you suggested, the aluminium one, now because it's cheaper too, but do you think that having to build the bow myself would be too much of a hassle and I should just avoid it, and try to get one that's pre-built? How many arrows did you buy, or do you think I should buy? Was it easy to start shooting from it? Also, does it really increase you in strength if you practice often?

You wont be building it, its just assembling the parts. For me it was pretty easy. The bow comes with all the necessary bolts and key wrenches of all different sizes. Everything is there, you just have to follow the instructions on the manual. Or you can also always YT for reference. String might be an issue though, so if it sounds too much then yes go for a premade one with the string already attached to it.

Initially i got 6 arrows, then I got 12 more arrows. Arrow spine dont usually always break, mostly its the arrowheads and nocks coming out of it. Now I always tape the nocks and arrow heads before shooting as it helps keeping them all together and not be worried about losing parts every few mins.

Shooting wasn't hard, hitting the target was. For me getting a full draw wasnt the hard part, staying in full draw and taking an aim with it and releasing it with ease was. Archery requires steadiness and patience. It definitely gets easier as you practice, and yes it is like any other exercise so yes it will get easier the more you do it over time.

Just be absolutely sure of what you can pull, dont be all "I can do that since the internet can".. At Karachi Archery Club, the guy told me my bow had hard limbs and that 40 lbs is a bit on the high end for a newbie. All their members use 25-30 lb mostly.

My final suggestion is, get a premade one from Woodsman. Get the arrows the same size as the draw length and if you are on a fence about 40 lb, Just go for 30 lb. You are getting it for fun, not for hunting.

Do post impressions and pictures here if you do end up getting one.

Thanks. That's a lot of helpful information in all of these posts. You answered all of the questions I had about it and I really appreciate that. I'll be getting it soon, but probably not for another month or 2. If I do get it, I'll definitely try to post pics here. :D Thanks again bro. If I could ask one last question, would the composite bow that woodsman.pk has listed be a good choice? If not, then which one of theirs looks like a good one?

Yes get it. You wont have to worry about assembling it. IDK how i feel about No arrow rest though but I remember reading in one of the pakistani forums about composite and the guy was very happy with it. Lighter in weight and easy fun.

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
