I am getting this phone: http://shop.windmobile.ca/ProductCatalog/Handsets/HandsetDetails.aspx?id=Huawei+U8100&color=green

it's basically a low end Android phone.

- It's 2.8", the max i've used for a long period is 2.4"
- It's 4 grams lighter than my old phone and smaller except in height
- 3.2 Megapixels is okay for me, I don't use the camera too much
- Standby time is VERY impressive
- A-GPS is good enough for me coz I won't use it unless there comes a way to cache the google map.
- The processor is 528 MHz

I've seen videos and it looks pretty zippy. The only complain I've read is that you need to apply a bit more pressure on the screen but since the only touch phone I've used is N97 and its touch screen sucks.

The plan I'm getting is very nice so I'm quite convinced I wanna switch to this carrier, the question is:

Is this phone worth $140 or even $160?

Thank you

Worth it... Go for it tiger!

BTW, dunno why GSMArena shows that this phone does not have GPS: http://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_u8100-3157.php
it just has A-GPS...the one which uses internet to get a GPS fix. But since I don't have a data plan I can't use it even with a hardware GPS, and if there comes a way to cache the maps I could just use the internet to get a fix :)

and it does have an accelerometer according to this review: http://worthycellphone.com/huawei-u8100-aviator-cell-phone/

actually Samsung's upgraded it to Eclair (2.1), the user who is selling has rooted and upgraded to 2.1 already. I really don't care about the camera but yeah there's gps and it's generally a better phone coz it's samsung and not some underpaid Huawei :)

HTC Magic...how much would that cost used?

Samsung I5700 has capacitive ... not the Huawei. I have decided to wait :)

shouldn't get greedy so I decided I could wait a bit more, the only worry would be if it got snatched in Zadaristan lol

however I7500 is also looking REALLY good but there's no official 2.1 update, 2.2 is alpha :(

alright, can someone compare I5700 to I7500?

assume that I'm getting a used phone and at the same price. I want to compare OS versions, shortcomings and mainly PERFORMANCE.

WHAT is going on here?

Is this phone worth $140 or even $160?
Yes. But that's not a good thing.

Are you talking about caching the map data? JJdoctor did something like that didn't he?
gMapMaker does that. Caches map tiles onto the SD card.

What?
They definitely go together, there's nothing wrong with resistive screens. I've seen resistive screens (particularly the Samsung Jet) perform as good as capacitive screens.
Magic is good.

eViLrAcEr my analysis is on your visitor message.

what about I5700 vs I7500?

Now i've decided that IF I get one of those under19k in Pakistan, that would be much better.

is capacitive the one to use with nails or is that the other one?

All A-GPS phones dont necessarily use GPRS to get a fix. Check if this phone has an internal GPS antenna. If it does, you wont require GPRS to get a fix.

The only reason you would buy one of those is because money was tight. Otherwise I'm not keen on them.
Capacitive responds to electric discharge (basically) from your fingers. No nails/appendages/styli.

I know. You also don't need a GPS antenna. Some GPS SoCs can get a lock immediately, some can't. The baseband chipset plays an important role here, as does the radio firmware.
