Using PS3 controller with PC

I have decided to buy a ps3 controller for using with my laptop (not going for xbox360 controller because can't find a good wired one and because ps3 controller can be used with bluetooth) Those who have used ps3 controller with motionjoy please advise me regarding the following:

1. I have heard we need 'bluetooth with EDR' to connect the controller. Will I need some special bluetooth dongle or will it work with the built in bluetooth of my laptop?
2. Is there any lag when using the controller through bluetooth on PC?
3. How do the first copy controllers work? I have checked in a lot of shops which are selling ps3 controllers from 1000rs to 2500rs but I don't think they are original. I would not mind using a first copy as long as it is decent.
4. Does a ps3 controller use a standard usb cable or some special type?

1. if your laptop has supported edr bluetooth it will work
2. no on usb. will be same on bluetooth
3. most of them do not work well. even u cant reset with restart button of controller. they start failing after sometime
4. it use microusb B port

[MENTION=268]abcd[/MENTION] From My Experience I Have Been Using Ps3 Controller (Dualshock 3 and Sixaxis one) With Pc Using DS3 Tool (motioninjoy) It Is Working Perfectly Fine
Answers:
1. No It Will Work With Latest Update.Period
2. Faster Than Keyboard. Bluetooth Also Works Fine.
3. I Have Original Sorry Can't Answer That.
4. That Comes With Controller Or Ps3.

Use Wire Connection If Possible To Avoid Game Break Due To Bluetooth. It Happens sometimes when controller is not charged properly or else..
Wire connection is better to use I will say that again

Thanks guys. Just one more question, how do I know if my laptop bluetooth supports edr? I also have a cheap chinese bluetooth dongle if that is any good.

You called? No? I'm the intel on how to make PS3 controllers work on PC. OK, first of all, MotionInJoy is the suckiest thing you can use. It will give you blue screens and instability. The last BSoD I saw in 8 years occured previous month with MotionInJoy. Now adays, there's a better way called "Xinput Wrapper for DS3"

Stable as hell and works with everything (no need to copy-paste .DLLs like x360ce). You can get it here:

You need to install Xbox controller drivers first. If you want to play on a desktop, you need Bluetooth with EDR (I still have no luck finding one and am still looking eagerly for it). Laptops usually have newer versions and they will work. I use it on my sister's laptop, works like a charm.

Make sure to do a "Force Install". Ask me if you have any problems.

But this way, you have Plug n Play. With your method, you have to first run a hideous looking ad-ridden program, which may or may not give you BSoD. MotionInJoy is really really unstable. Most people have terrible experiences with it as you can read everywhere.

You'll need to download a software called "SCPserver". After installing it, open the software and you'll find a few things that are needed to be done in order to get the PS3 controller properly recognized on your PC.

In the software, tick "Windows Service", "Install Xbox 360 controller driver" and "Install Dualshock 3 driver". In the dropdown menu of Dualshock 3, select the PS3 controller you've attached to the PC. Then click on install.

You will be able to use the PS3 controller on any game this way.
