So on your router, all you had to do was setup PPPoE and then it connected?

And since you don't have static IP, what does it show as the connected IP on your router? 100.x or 103.x?
Yes, I did the added step of Cloning the Mac Address of the ONT onto DDWRT. Don't think this would be required though since the guy who called did not say anything. Current IP is 100.x , I will see if it gives 103.x in future.

Yeah I thought so. Since you're still under their CGN, the IP assigned to your router is TWs internal network, so the IP is 100.x.

However if you type 'My IP' on Google search, it'll show you 103.x.

Yup, public IP is 103.x, will see if any issues come up with CGN. No issues as of now. I think the Sales guy had mentioned NAT type 2 can be given to customers for free, but will see about that later.

Do let me know if you opt for NAT Type 2 without static IP and how well it works for you.

I have their weird static but not so static IP and while I don't run into NAT related issues, it disconnects every 24 hours on the dot to get a new IP. The disconnection is so minor, it barely lasts 20 seconds and it immediately gets a new IP, but if you've got a download running or something, it can be a bit frustrating.

So if I can switch back to not static IP but have Type 2 NAT, it would be ideal.

Will do. BTW, not sure if its important or not but noticed from your Trace Routes that we both have the same TES Gateway, right after ONT.

Seems to be a KHI based gateway. Considering TW has been around in DHA for a while, I'd expect them to have had it here.

Any downtime since switching to bridge mode and using your own router?

Also, what router do you use?

No downtime.

There were a few disconnections from their PPPoE server the first night. Connected/Disconnected for a few minutes but that's about it.

I am using Linksys WRT1200 AC with DDWRT.

One thing noticed with TES, for whatever reason, pings at night time are perhaps 40-50 ms more than compared to morning time.

lol.garena.com for example would be in 180s at night, 110s in morning.

Download and Torrents are great. Average around 2.1 MB per second.

I asked them on Saturday to deactivate my static IP, since it wasn't proving to be beneficial for me, for two reasons:

1) It disconnects for 30 seconds every 24 hours, so it's not exactly static IP.
2) I don't have NAT issues even with their CGN, so I'm back to having 103.x IPs.

They did it this morning and my ONT automatically dropped the old 110.x IP and reconnected to 103.x.

Might consider getting Bridge mode as well, but the only thing bothering me is that if anything ever goes wrong, I don't think I can disable Bridge mode without calling them and waiting for someone from their end to do it.

Yeah, won't be able to change yourself but then if something goes wrong it would be a connection issue from their end anyway. Don't think any other issue would occur.

BTW. With DDWRT additional commands set on startup, was able to access Modem always in past but something's different with the ONT so not able to access Modem page unless I connect a wire to it directly with PC. I guess there's zero communication in Bridge mode unlike PTCL Modems in the past.

Yeah only PTCL modems on PTCLs firmware do that.

I had PTCLs Dlink ADSL2+ modem/router, but flashed it with the DLink firmware, and had it in bridge mode with a TPLink router, and I wasn't able to access the DLink modem unless connected to it directly via LAN.

Normally in bridge mode you can avoid direct connection simply by doing steps mention below. This works on any router

  • Use one spare ethernet patch cable and connect both the main router (ont) and bridge router through each other lan ports and keep them connected

  • Assign the bridge modem ip diffferent from main router(ont) e.g if ont is on 192.168.1.1 use 192.168.2.1 on bridge.

  • Connect as usual to your router for internet(bridged one). You will then need to set static ip of which router (ont or bridge modem)you want to connect whether it is on mobile, laptop, etc.Otherwise in dhcp mode the connecting device will auto select lowest ip number.

  • Only change ip when you need to access ont and set back to previous(bridge modem ip) when you want to use internet.

  • No need to use wire it can be done through wireless from any device.

Hey @murtaza12 and others, I saw from your screenshots that you're using a Huawei modem - and I, too, see that the default end-user username and password have some settings restricted (for me, it's the ability to change DNS servers).

Have you tried using "telecomadmin" and "admintelecom" as the username and password respectively? Because this works on PTCL's GPON service (and I was successfully able to change my DNS server settings).

Edit: nvm. Just read in the previous pages that it doesn't work. Don't get your hopes high, anonymous user.

The root access credentials (i.e: the ones you mentioned) are disabled by default on TW's ONTs, and if somehow we did manage to make any changes, their NMS would just overwrite it with the default TW settings. They literally don't allow you to do anything with the ONT, except change the WiFi SSID and password.

Yeah I just read it a few pages back and edited my post accordingly.

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
