I can't even tell if the equipment is bad / unreliable, or PTCL is just terrible at deploying it.

Alcatel is used by lots of large ISPs all over the world and despite reading a lot on networking forums, I've never heard of problems as bad as this.
However, Nayatel gave me an Alcatel ONT - and it wasn't down (barring exceptions).

It all depends on how you manage your network, and how capable your tech teams are, I guess. Not necessarily a vendor issue.

I've heard the newer ONTs Nayatel gives are Huawei-based (or different areas/different vendors).

Nayatels older network was all Alcatel based. Most of Islamabad (F sectors) have Alcatel ONTs. Some are so old that they don't even have built-in routers, just a PON port and an ethernet port for you to connect your own. The one at my cousins house didn't even have gigabit ethernet ports, only 10/100.

He eventually had them upgrade it to a newer Alcatel ONT then. But no complaints from him. Works perfectly and he rarely has any downtime other than when there is a major issue.

And yes, nowadays it's pretty much Huawei everywhere. PWD, Bahria, Safari Villas, and any new deployments are all Huawei.
I've heard Huawei networks are easier to manage and their NMS tool is much better.

murtaza12 PTCL boys just left. What I suspected was true. Basically the last time this happened, my optical power value changed (from 15 to 16). Today, I checked and it has changed again (to 17.x).

I asked them why? Is it because these idiots keep switching active connection ports (or whatever is in the FDH)? He said yes, that happens and there is no way for them to know who did it.

Aaaaaaaaand fiber is down again.

Same error as last time. ISP Timeout.
I have been using PTCL GPON for almost 1.5 years now and i had hardly faced any downtime. it works seamlessly with good pings. I am using ZTE F660 ONT and believe me, its the best ONT i have ever used. Mostly, my ONT is UP for 2 3 months and even then it doesn't require any reboot.

physically switching ports?
Yeah. I haven't seen the inside of an FDH up close but I'm guessing there are a lot of ports with individual connections plugged into each. And these guys keep switching these causing issues.

Depends on the exchange I suppose. We've got Alcatel equipment over here.

These are VoIP config issues for landline.

The dropping internet connection should look like this:

pppd informs: Serial link appears to be disconnected, ISP timeout
PPPoE session is disconnected

And if it's a PON issue, it shows:

Fiber disconnected (also happens if you unplug the patch cord)

What is it supposed to say on the LOID config page? LOID and password field.

Right now mine are autofilled to AdminGPON and its password.

Password field either has an MD5 hashed password in it, or is blank.

Don't remember if LOID shows either or not. LOID isn't wiped unless specified. It even survives a factory reset.

That's kinda weird. But as long as it's working, shouldn't be a problem.

I went to the basti exchange on saturday to inquire about the tax information and fibre. and after looking at all the people that were having issues with fibre, i am now having doubts.

According to the fibre guy, basti will take atleast another month probably more, and on top of that conversion changes which were 1000 before are now 1500 and might increase when the time comes for basti.

Funny enough, a person came talked to me who was their for fibre complain and said to NOT get fibre at all, they are bunch of idiots, he said that his internet is off from Eid after conversion to fibre and they are so incompetent that no one is properly able to do anything about it.

Also got 1 more information which is if a user opt for new number then PTCL will provide fibre and wont diactivate the copper, when fibre is up ad running then they will do it as to minimize for down time but this is not available if user chooses to opt for old number

A month more lol what a joke. Last time I checked I from them, it was 2 months for Lalazar (basti will get it before that). So I guess they failed to handle this project smoothly, making excuses from time to time. Fools just could have implemented FTTC. FTTH is proving to be a headache for them now.

Blinking light depends on modem. I don't remember which lights were on/off on my modem, I didn't even use the PTCL one.

but i still get moderate nat in GTA 5
How does it affect the game?

I originally had an Alcatel ONT from NayaTel back in 2007, it was huge AF but yeah, rarely did I have issues with it. NayaTel visited my place only twice in the 3yrs I had them, rest were solved remotely.
