Well, that's partially correct. The term operational in telecom is used more for "ready for use" rather than "in use". :shifty:

And to answer your question all I can say is - commercially, all pieces of puzzle are falling in nicely for AAE1. Technically, AAE1 works on the latest commercially deployed technology and it can single-handedly fit in the traffic of 3 to 4 other cables combined. However a project of such magnitude takes quite an effort even after deployment. It will take some time before the effects are translated to end users. Same was the case with SMW5, it was launched in December of last year, yet largely came into play only when TW1 got screwed. This was the reason why mobile data services didn't take a hit. All I can say is - Good things come to those who wait.
Been fun reading your posts.(y)

Not sure if these are the transformed packages or not but I saw them listed on my bill. 5mb for 2K, 10 for 2.5 and 20 for 3.

Since I was paying 4K for 12mbps I called the exchange and they confirmed thier availability at my exchange and I requested to the package. Guy said I'd get it in 48 hours but nothing happened after a week. So I called again, yelled at them and when I got home from work I had been upgraded to 20 Mbps. Soon after the whole cable breaking mess happened and I couldn't enjoy the new net. From Multan btw.

I personally haven't got a clue, though I can try to find out but in Karachi only. Technical and consumer/local teams in PTCL are as far apart as the sun and the moon.

So basically AAE1 is still a 'dark' cable?

Very interesting. Since TW1 went down we have been getting really poor pings to Dubai. It's fine everywhere else. Smw5 isn't connected to the gulf region or is it more complicated than That?

I would assume that when planning for SMW5 they decided to use it for destinations other than Oman/UAE, which seems logical because TW1 has ample capacity with both. They probably also didn't anticipate any problems with TW1 since that region has only experienced one fault in the past 15 years, IIRC.

I dialed the 080080800 number as it was written on the bill next to the packages. Err mb writing that I called the exchange though lol. I called the helpline and they checked my exchange on their system

No Problem. I didn't say anything before because most people I know in this industry avoid telling others because of obvious reasons.

I personally don't appreciate it when I run into people with no background knowledge of telco/networks, and more importantly the commercial constraints. Anyway I'm trying to explain things as simply as I can, yet remaining vague due to anonymity. (w)
Appreciate ur updates are you sure transworld and Dubai routing will be fixed till September , their support keeps telling me for a month now that it will be fixed in a week again and again and again

Are transformation packages available for Karachi also?

I got a 20mb and paying a dastardly fee of 8.5k for it (taxes incl.), and would appreciate some relief on the wallet, or at least an upgraded slot.

As there are many discussions going on ryt now about the ping to dubai. I wanna know that why dont we get good pings to china and japan? even though they are so close to pakistan compared to eu and usa. The ping to japan and china reaches 300 above all the time. Can anybody elaborate this?

Browsing is back to Normal. Torrents, on the other hand, are still dead slow. Is anyone else getting slow speeds on Torrents, or is it just me?

I just hope Torrents are back to normal before next GOT episode comes out.
