Me.

I remain as lowkey as possible here, but seeing as PG used to be like a second home to me I guess I owe you guys something. Well I've been working on international networks for the past 18 months, PTCL to be specific but know people from TWA as well. Will be happy to help with any questions you guys might have regarding submarine cables, downtimes, outages etc, or shoot away any general questions you might have.

IMEWE links went up around 14:30. Most international links were changed at both logical and physical layers. As soon as they work out a plan to shift them back on their previous links, things will be back to normal. Though I'm seeing plenty bandwidth is back to normal already.

Wish it was as easy as saying "we will fix the routing issue on dubai server". There's a ton of traffic analysis done on daily basis, KPIs measured and a commercial plan devised with international partners before routings are changed. And if you think peeps working in PTCL's international network don't know how to fix this, let me assure you they do know, they just can't do anything about it, especially when there's a emergency situation like we experienced with IMEWE, SMW4, SMW3 and TW1 at the same time.

I don't directly work in PIE but I can tell you that there will be good news regarding UAE soon.

And why would you doubt I work there? There's like 15000 direct employees. Pretty easy to run into one, especially on a tech forum, more so if they actually tell you. ;)

Appreciate the timely updates.
I just restarted my ONT and all seems to be okay now.

Cheers

No Problem. I didn't say anything before because most people I know in this industry avoid telling others because of obvious reasons.

I personally don't appreciate it when I run into people with no background knowledge of telco/networks, and more importantly the commercial constraints. Anyway I'm trying to explain things as simply as I can, yet remaining vague due to anonymity. (w)

Being in your position it's understandable why you'd want to remain anonymous, but we all appreciate the updates and know at least we'll know it comes from someone on the inside.

Here's my connection back at full blast after the restoration of IMEWE:

Shed some light upon AAE-1 what benefit will it do ? Or if its operational what it does ?

AAE-1 is already operational. And I believe the inauguration of that is the reason we have these new 'transformation' packages.

Yes. TW1 should be fixed by third week of August. And SMW4 a week later. Unless ofcourse they run into another problem while recovery.
Nice. Is there any reason why this imewe cable cut took a couple of days to fix and tw1 has been down since 2nd july

Well, that's partially correct. The term operational in telecom is used more for "ready for use" rather than "in use". :shifty:

And to answer your question all I can say is - commercially, all pieces of puzzle are falling in nicely for AAE1. Technically, AAE1 works on the latest commercially deployed technology and it can single-handedly fit in the traffic of 3 to 4 other cables combined. However a project of such magnitude takes quite an effort even after deployment. It will take some time before the effects are translated to end users. Same was the case with SMW5, it was launched in December of last year, yet largely came into play only when TW1 got screwed. This was the reason why mobile data services didn't take a hit. All I can say is - Good things come to those who wait.
