The jazz location package is shit. I have 250 free minutes but i need 0.15 call setup charges for every call even after spending 550 for package, wtf

Sent from my Infinix_X521 using Tapatalk
All companies do the same. I am using Zong and for any package, call resources need 0.15 paisa setup charges for every call.

Zong do not charge call setup charges on monthly hydrid bundle. Atleast not for Rs. 500 one.

I noticed a strange thing just now. Only Zong is operating in 1800 MHz band 3 for 2G services in my area.

All other operators are using 900 MHz only for 2G services. Don't know what Ufone, Jazz and Telenor are doing with 1800 MHz spectrum. Ufone suppose to use 900 MHz for 3G but 2G is still working on 900 MHz and nothing on 1800 MHz.

And I tested at Susan road opposite Ufone and Zong CSC again, and only Zong is running 2G on 1800 MHz. There is only Telenor 3G on other than 2100 MHz which is obviously on 850 MHz. And only Telenor 4G on other than 1800 MHz band 3 which is again on 850 MHz.

Nothing is running on 1800 MHz for Ufone and Telenor and I am not sure how much 1800 MHz Jazz is using for 4G but I am sure their 4G is still 5 MHz. Don't know whats going on.

And Only thing I can understand is that Zong has its 1800 MHz spectrum in line at last of the list. And Ufone and Telenor have their spectrum in between Mobilink and Warid. Jazz probably requested PTA and FAB to shuffle and make their merged spectrum (14.8 MHz in 1800 MHz) in line by setting aside Ufone and Telenor's spectrums. Jazz might also request to allow 2 MHz more spectrum in same band to make their spectrum full 15 MHz.

Zong doesn't use the full 1800Mhz spectrum for 4G - e.g. in F7 Markaz Islamabad, they're running it on 10Mhz. In other areas, it's 15Mhz.

They would deploy spectrum as per the requirement, I suppose.

I did a quick check at my home (where I get poor signal anyway): Zong 4G: 15 Mhz, 1800Mhz. 2G: 900Mhz. Which probably means in the areas where they've deployed 15Mhz completely, voice traffic is offloaded to the 900Mhz band.

I wonder what the maximum speeds users could get in the 15Mhz areas. Myabe 90Mbps (based on the logic that 5Mhz = 30Mbps, and so 10 Mhz should mean around 60Mbps... but this is just a syllogism).

My question is still same. Why aren't other companies using 1800 mhz?

Telenor and Zong both still use 1800mhz for 2G in Karachi, Warid use this band for LTE but only 5 MHz which is now also used on Jazz LTE - rest I don't know, never saw Ufone using it for 2G.

Ufone has 6 MHz in 1800 MHz for 2G and they are not using it in Karachi as well. Warid was using 5 MHz of 1800 MHz for 4G and remaining 3.8 MHz for 2G and Jazz was using its full 6 MHz of 1800 MHz for 2G. But except Zong and Telenor in Karachi and and in Fsd besides Zong no one is using it for 2G or 4G. I wounder what are they doing with 1800 MHz.

Ufone probably reserved it's 6 MHz in 1800 MHz to launch LTE(competition for Jazz and Zong isn't it? If they win the next auction, Ufone would have 15 MHz in 1800 MHz band for LTE). Jazz and Warid's remaining 1800 MHz spectrum are reserved for merge, When does that happen we don't know. Telenor also reserved it's 3 MHz in 1800 MHz for LTE - carrier aggression with 5 Mhz in 850 MHz band in Fsd/Islamabad. For Zong you guys already know(hint: previous posts of this thread) correct me if I'm wrong.

Maybe they'll do something about it later on. It's tough to say what they're doing about it when none of us work in these telcos.

Heck, I accidentally discovered Zong was using 15Mhz spectrum in some places, and Telenor using 1800Mhz 3Mhz spectrum in places. Maybe the other telcos might do something about it in the future.

I think (it's all conjecture) Mobilink is waiting to decommission Warid, and then use CA cause they have non-contiguous spectrum holdings (and why would PTA favor one company and tell the others to "move out of Mobilink's way"?). I'm sure if other companies in the world can overcome this hurdle, so can Mobilink.

That's what I think.

I'm just waiting for Warid to get decommissioned and see Mobilink do something about the spectrum. Then they can use whatever and however they want - as long as the service isn't negatively impacted, since there's no one to tell us why they're using some frequency in some places for some thing.

I wonder what the maximum speeds users could get in the 15Mhz areas. Myabe 90Mbps (based on the logic that 5Mhz = 30Mbps, and so 10 Mhz should mean around 60Mbps... but this is just a syllogism).
Did some quick research. Turns out my guess wasn't far from accurate.

And Zong advertising 150Mbps 4G speed in the start? Well, not only was that the theoretical maximum which was conditional tithe amount of spectrum holdings by a company (which Zong didn't have), but Zong stopped advertising 150Mbps speeds altogether.

And LTE Cat 3 claims for Warid's tech? Not only was there no source, but this graph (or the website which I picked it up from) mentioned nothing about Cat 3 or Cat 4. It just depends on the amount of spectrum you deploy, and you can have 150Mbps peak speeds.

Thing is, nobody here has that spectrum.

Not sure if the speeds change if LTE-A is deployed with 5Mhz (in fact, can it be done in the first place? I don't think so). LTE Categories only denote speed caps, IIRC.

Telenor is using 1800 MHz LTE only in some areas of Islamabad. But real wounder is Ufone. There is still some time in 4G auction. Why they stopped using their 6 MHz precious 1800 MHz spectrum? When they have already refarmed more than half of its 900 MHz for 3G. How they are managing to run their 2G services without 1800 MHz. I am not using Ufone 2G so don't know how Ufone 2G is performing in areas where Ufone has deployed 3G on 900 MHz.

I am using Ufone 2G and it's performing really bad in my house. There are dead spots in house where I get no signals, also signals are weak of 2G (900 MHz). Sometimes when I dial a Ufone number it says number is off but it isn't when I dial it from Telenor. Also voice is not clear on 2G (900 MHz). I don't have these issues on their 3G (900 MHz/2100MHz) except their 3G data speeds which suck.

Thats because they are facing network congestion due to non availability of 1800 MHz 2G. They are running their whole 2G on 3 MHz of 900 MHz. Don't know what they are doing with 1800 MHz.

Maybe they're shuffling spectrum around so people can get contiguous chunks of spectrum in the 1800 band?

OR

Ufone is testing 1800 MHz LTE already (doubt it), but if they were, it's weird that they've shut off 1800 MHz 2G in most places.

OR

Some operators don't use 1800 MHz 2G everywhere, in KPK for example, the last time I went, ServiceMode shows most users always connected to 900 MHz rather than 1800, regardless of the network.

Try band-locking 1800 MHz 2G in front of a Ufone Office (not franchise), and see if you get any sort of connection to it.
