Android Pie brought DNS over TLS support, so initially I thought that was causing it, but I turned it off, and still the same.

Jazz did acknowledge issues in Bahria though, so at least there's that.
I'll visit Bahria (have to go to PWD) today hopefully and I'll get back to you.

You said HBL, right? I'll test it at the roundabout (since I'm sure 20 meters either side wouldn't make a difference in open air).

Wah Cantt
Zong 4G in Wah Cantt (indoors). Jazz 4G struggles alot indoors.

P.S Pings in games are so stable on Zong's 4G as compared to Jazz even Zong is struggling with speeds.

I think all pixel, Xiaomi and Nokia phones will support as well

Depends if Telenor got their profile set up in the aforementioned phones' firmware by the respective manufacturer. That happened with Samsung AFAIK, not sure about other manufacturer's atm.

Yeah. But the fact that these phones I mentioned frequently release updates for their phones, it would be easy for Telenor to add them in compatible phones list by contacting manufacturers

Good news. So... I decided to pop in my test Telenor SIM.

And guess what? Absolutely nothing!

No VoLTE on the Pixel (which uses a standard implementation, I'm sure, and the website says so does Telenor, but okay) but no CA as well. If they can't get CA running despite announcing it months ago in Blue Area, then...

I'm not taking a pot shot at StrikerX - I'm taking a shot at the guys running the show in Telenor. It's reminiscent of the times when Mobilink announces they've done a great feat when they had, in reality, only met 1% of the actual feat.

But hey, whoever shouts louder, wins, right?

Sigh. Telenor. So much potential. But so much waste. It's sad because other companies inherited their "Pakistani" reputation, but Telenor morphed itself into one.

Not necessarily.

Google usually doesn't add VoLTE support in regions where Pixels are not officially sold. Same for other manufacturers.

Samsung, Nokia and Xiaomi will be adding support to most of their devices.

Very few phones are going to be supporting Telenor's VoLTE for now. I think S8, S8+ (official Samsung Pakistan) support it.

Great news!
Hopefully S9/N9 are included as well.

I think we may never be able to see VoLTE on our pixel because of what murtaza said and nor will Telenor approach Google (lets hope not) for a device that isn't officially available in Pakistan.

What's the coverage for Telenor VoLTE

Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
Because of the way it works, it should be available in most big cities where LTE / LTE-A coverage is already present.

Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi should be the first to get it.

As far as I know, the carrier has to support it. Google has the software enabled in the phones - it's the networks which need to toggle the option on.

I'm sure it's not related with the fact that Google is selling devices in an unsupported country...because if that was the case, they wouldn't let you purchase from other countries (and you can).

The terms and conditions say that the networks needs to support it.

In order to work VoLTE IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) settings are to be configured on per network basis in the modem config file of the chipset and the phone itself. Since in Pakistan phones are carrier/operator neutral, IMS settings are not preconfigured on many devices because international brands cannot be aware who is releasing VoLTE at what times. To make VoLTE work, Operator needs to contact manufacturers of smartphones to release appropriate update patches. For this, Operator only consider those manufacturers who have significant market share in the country, like top 5 or 7 brands (sorry pixel users).

For new and upcoming phones, operators contact Qualcomm and Mediatek, and all new SoCs comes with preinstalled codes and manufacturers keep those code. Within 2-3 years all phones in market becomes VoLTE supported for that network.

So if you are using a smartphone made by top 5-7 brands and they still release constant updates for that phone, you might taste a VoLTE on your phone. Otherwise wait and buy a phone which comes pre installed support for Telenor's VoLTE.

Nah, for VoLTE that won't be the case. zafarabbasrizvi has summed it up nicely.

Thanks for info.

What's the reason for going with top manufacturers only?

There are many reasons

1. Top 5-7 manufacturers hold 80% of the market share and in those 80% 4G smartphones there must have at least 40% smartphones for which manufacturers still releases updates. So it would be easy for everyone to enable VoLTE on those phones. And it will boost their market reputation in the country as well.

2. Less popular devices holds very less market share, for example how many users you think have Pixel phones, LG phones or OnePlus Phones in Pakistan? Why would both companies waste time and money for those handful of users?

3. Operators focus more on SoC makers like Qualcomm and Mediatek to enable their VoLTE in all upcoming chipsets. With this, they need no more manufacturer suppprt to enable their VoLTE in future phones.

This is why it is not feasible to go for phones which merely have presence in the country.
