Since the Redmi Note 4 has a Snapdragon chip, you can use Network Signal Guru app if you're rooted.

If anybody passes by Abbas Market in F-8/3, Telenor is using band 3 there. Can you pop in your SIM and test out the speeds?

Mobilink gave me around 30Mbpsdow stream and 8Mbps up. Both Telenor and Mobilink have their towers there in the open, so you'll get full signal strength there (because Mobilink 4G, and Telenor 3G had great signal strength, hence my assumption).

There was one more weird thing I spotted there: these carriers:

I tested 4G at my end - no absurd pings (except for off-network traffic) nor were there below-average speeds either, but there are signal issues where I am living, so...

Is it me, or have Mobilink signals really gone down the drain (4G signals)? My phone latches on to EDGE, and sometimes, 3G inside my house. If I toggle airplane mode, it'll connect to 4G before reverting back to EDGE.

I'm beginning to consider switching to Zong or Telenor (I have a friend in Zong who'll add me to his FnF list so I pay RS. 500 for 10GB, or 1,000 for 30GB, but nobody in Telenor) because Mobilink is beginning to irk me more and more.

Asar ke waqt Roza nahin torrtay. Just wait for few more weeks and test 15 MHz 4G on Mobilink. You will still have these options in case of dissatisfactory results.

Even if they upgrade, they have to fix their internet routing and latency issues too (I've given up hope on their billing).

OTOH, people complain about Zong stealing balance, and their billing for data isn't real time (since your credit jumps around after toggling data off and then back on).

I'm just trying to find which operator requires the fewest compromises.

They gave me 1GB free data for porting to Telenor, and 500 MB for using the Telenor app, got plenty of data to burn, might as well use it for speedtests.
Also, it's so nice, I had 281.57 rupees 5 days ago, and I still have 281.57 rupees. Nice to know my balance isn't getting stolen anymore.

Seriously though, their 4G has improved a lot since I last used it. YouTube is easily streamable now and no browsing issues.
The 3G still sucks for video streaming though, for stuff like Whatsapp and Messenger, it does the job.

EDIT: If Jazz doesn't get upgraded by the end of this month, give Telenor a shot, if it doesn't work out, come back to Jazz after 60 days, HOPEFULLY by then they would have upgraded it.

And band 3 had only 3 MHz spectrum and very weak coverage. This could be the reason for degraded speed.

But result of band 5 is evident that it doesn't matter which band is being used for 4G. If signals (including SNR) are great than it could make a strong difference. How great it could have been if Telenor deployed full 10 MHz of band 5 for 4G. They are wasting it for 3G because it is not giving optimum benefit to their 3G which it could have been given to 4G. You could have experienced 60 MHz on band 5 instead off 30 if there was full 10 MHz 4G of band 5. And Zong n Jazz could have been faced some competition. 1 se bhalay 2 aur 2 se bhalay 3.

The test in the screenshot I posted was in the Ace parking lot in Phase 2, and I'm sure one of the towers on the roof was Telenor 4G since the signal strength was excellent and so was the SINR.

Still haven't figured out where Band 3 is coming from since the signals are always really weak whenever you force it to connect to that band, which it never does automatically.

I agree they probably don't have LTE equipment on the water tower (it's kinda interesting how we're both getting served by the same tower haha... At least we can check what's up) since I, too, get weak signsls (before, I never got any signal).

3G will only be good if you've got good signals - considering the lack of dual carrier. Even Mobilink lacks dual carrier in a number of places where they previously had. But then, band 5 on 3G is good for Telenor because of voice coverage... Because I don't get anything from band 1 from Telenor in my house.

You see khan saab, when there is a noticeable improvement, then there will definitely be a positive review as well.

Yesterday I watched a 22 minute long video on YouTube to try and finish all the free data Telenor had given, and I did, and unlike last year when Telenor couldn't even load 360p, this time I changed it to 1080p60fps and it didn't stop to buffer even once.

The crappy browsing timeouts are gone too, mostly, it does act a bit funny sometimes in the Facebook app where it refuses to load stuff, but other than that, it's perfectly usable.
