X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)
"
Whiplaaash!!"
Skimmed through all X-Men movies, Check. Coffee, Check. Undivided attention, Check. Brain fully functional, Check. Erection ...
Jennifer Lawrence Prepare to be gobsmacked. Adjust your brain for the mind shattering time travel its about to witness, for our dear
Wolverine is about to go back to 1973, to stop
Mystique from killing a human Scientist and stopping a war. The common enemy is Extinction, the motherf*ckers are Sentinels, and final destination is ... the future.
Every moment is a crucial moment. Let it be Mystique's intro, older Prof.X & Magneto, and other mutants. The best part, you can actually 'feel' the intensity of the imminent danger faced to mutants ... OR when those MoFo Sentinels attack.
Quicksilver was frigging shinning star. Short role, but damn well played.
Don't forget "the slow motion scene in Washington with Erik's Escape". Whiplaaash!
It was such an amazing experience to see all those characters make a comeback. Like Storm and Rogue etc. Heck i don't even mind the short appearances. The breath holding moment, of:
Jean Grey & Cyclops. The moment of high intensity, peak emotions and pure love. *clapping* (I consider this to be one of the most important part for Wolverine. And i'd anxiously be waiting how they explain his missing memories, after drowning.)
That stadium scene was discreetly explosive, and exceptionally well made. Consistent CGI across the movie. Take the fight in the opening sequence for example.
~ "
Humanity has always feared that, which is different". ~ You could say that i have also just developed this new fear about this sudden "game changing" twist in
Days of Future Past.
The general idea is, if the events happening in "
Days of the Future Past” are true, then it basically nullifies all the previous X-Men movies (or their timelines). Further reading suggests that the alternate reality this movie helps create, has indeed shifted in time, but not completely. Which means whatever happened between the first X-Men (X1) movie and Days of The Future Past … will be duly explained in the upcoming
X-Men: Apoclypse (2016) (also hinted in post-credits scene). Damn, that’s like 2 years worth of wait, and I already can’t wait that long :S
For now, there are heck of a lot questions unanswered. For example:
- Wolverine’s Metal Claws were destroyed in Wolverine (2013). Yes we do see the chick pick them up, so we can safely assume she would’ve adjusted them back, but that’s our assumption. Not what we see.
- The return of Jean nullifies the events of X-Men: The Last Stand. Not to mention, death of Charles Xavier was also not explained (again, we have our ‘assumptions’ about many things, especially when we see them reappear in The Wolverine 2013).
Etc etc
Not to forget Younger colonel
Stryker. I bet you still can't explain ending scene:
where he is hinted to by Mystique, recovering the 'alive' body of Wolverine.
I have been a huge fan of X-Men movie franchise, and its surprising for me to realize that its been 14 years. And Wolverine hasn't aged a bit, which is shockingly wonderful (fo' real). Don’t keep your brain on drugs for this one because this will be extremely confusing to understand and digest. And surpringly,
Days of Future Past nullifies the X-Men 3 (2006) almost completely, because ...
Brian Singer. Yes the extremely talented director makes a comeback, and makes a nuclear impact. Goes without saying that the X-Men (2000) and X2 (2003) has been the strongest movies of them all, because i consider Brian Singer to be my favorite director for X-Men movie franchise.
However, comparatively, i think
X-Men: First Class (2011) was still a much better movie overall, because it grasped the idea of "Younger" mutants almost perfectly, explaining the origin stories of Charles and Magneto. That, and the fact that all the younger characters beautifully resembled the persona of their older actors.
Matthew Vaughn is no less director himself.
To keep my sanity in check as well, I am going to stop thinking about it because the more i'll focus on it, the more mine torture it'll give. But this is a straight
9/10 from me. Thats the same rating I gave to
X-Men: First Class (2011) ... or basically ALL the X-Men movies (yes i love 'em that much).
