Big Rock Candy Mountain.
Finally DC comics is putting out a film to compete with Marvel's Avengers! (Till Justice League comes out)

And I like that they went with this Suicide Squad's Evil vs Bad take instead of the usual Good vs Bad.

And with Leto, Robbie and Smith in the cast I for one cannot wait!

[h=1]‘Suicide Squad': Cara Delevingne Teases ‘Fury’ of Enchantress[/h]

Movie fans have come to expect plenty of things from a comic book movie’s first trailer: new costumes, new heroes, and plenty of action. Batman V Superman‘s first full-length trailer released from Comic-Con 2015 fit the bill, but what they got from Suicide Squad – DC’s other shared universe venture coming to theaters in 2016 – was something else entirely.
The tale of the DC Universe’s nastiest criminals forced to go where the government and military can’t promises action and attitude, but the first footage was far more unsettling than many expected. It’s that portion of the story – occult, even supernatural horror – where June Moon a.k.a. Enchantress (Cara Delevingne) is likely to shine. And according to the actress playing her, muscles and bullets aren’t the only source of fear (or violence) in the film’s story.

Delevingne has spoken in the past about her enthusiasm for Suicide Squad‘s vision, and claimed that the women in the film have the best roles. They may not have come by them easily, however, as the model-turned-actress explains to TIME that her audition process was particularly challenging. Reiterating her belief that the movie, and Enchantress will be “freakin’ awesome…I kill people with my bare hands,” the following excerpt from the interview offers a tease of what tortured villain lies in her future:
Delevingne describes her audition for Suicide Squad director David Ayer as lengthy, intense and infuriating. Because he hadn’t yet written the film’s script at the time of her tryout, Ayer made Delevingne read the part of Martha from Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, a character Delevingne had played before in a school production. Delevingne thought she had the audition in the bag due to her experience, but Ayer quickly told her to forget everything she knew about Martha, asking her to try the part so many different ways that she was ready to “beat people up” by the end of the process. “I was like, ‘Honestly, if I go outside and punch people, you’ve got to come get me out of jail because I am so furious,” she says. “He sparked a f—ing fury in me.”
Picturing the dainty actress as a true source of terror may not be easy (deemed the perfect actress to play Pan‘s mystical mermaids, for instance), but those familiar with the comic book source material that David Ayer is sticking to for the Squad know that it’s more than muscle which fuels her darker side.
Cara Delevingne in ‘Suicide Squad’

The first official image of the film’s cast showed that Delevingne (and June Moon) stood out from the rest of the group, looking more like a possessed girl from an ancient time than a modern super-criminal. In the comics, June wound up exploring Terror Castle, encountering a demon who then possessed her body with the entity known as ‘Enchantress’ – a being of magical power summoned simply by uttering her name. In the Comic-Con sizzle reel/trailer, June is shown exploring an underground cavern, immersing herself in water beneath a pentagram (and looking fairly uncertain about the act), and later, certainly appearing as if she has been possessed.
Connecting the dots between footage, rumors, and the comics, it’s safe to say that such an entity being brought into the world (even willingly, by June herself) could result in the kind of devastation and threat that only the Suicide Squad could bring down. And going by Delevingne’s description of the audition process, portraying an enraged, tormented, and borderline crazed young woman is exactly what Ayer is after (meaning she’ll be menacing due to more than just special effects).
How successful the portrayal will be remains to be seen, but the comic faithful – and fans of supernatural horror – will no doubt be pleased to hear the limits Ayer pushed his cast beyond before even casting them. Are you interested to see what Delevingne can bring to this new Enchantress? Or are you more interested in the shared universe aspect of the film? Sound off in the comments.

‘Suicide Squad’ Trailer Beats ‘Batman V Superman’ Views On YouTube

Next year, DC will finally launch its extended cinematic universe (read: DCEU) and compete alongside the MCU with two highly anticipated films: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and its immoral, “really bad” counterpart, Suicide Squad. While the former will finally bring two superhero icons to the big screen, the latter will introduce audiences to a revamped Joker and the first ever live-action, cinematic version of Harley Quinn. As such, it’s impossible not to wonder which of the two films is more highly anticipated – and which will draw the bigger box office haul.

The 2015 San Diego Comic-Con may have previewed the odds by debuting a packed new trailer for Batman V Superman, as well as exclusive footage from Suicide Squad, which was not meant for public viewing. As with most “exclusive” things in the industry, though, a bootleg video of it leaked and Warner Bros. failed to contain it – resulting in the studio deciding to release an official, high-quality version of it online. And thus began ‘Batman V Superman versus Suicide Squad: Dawn of YouTube Justice.’

As of right now, David Ayer’s film about a dysfunctional “family” currently has the upper hand with 36,792,211 views on YouTube – despite Zack Snyder’s superhero battle royale debuting first. Trailing Suicide Squad by more than a million, Batman V Superman currently has 35,335,594 views.

But from the very beginning, the odds seemed stacked against Batman V Superman for three key reasons. First, because the film will hit theaters five months before Suicide Squad, its marketing efforts had logically started first. Fans had already seen one trailer for the film (and even a trailer for the trailer), while they had seen nothing but set photos and videos from the other. That said, Suicide Squad offered something new and unseen. And it also offered something limited and inaccessible (read: “exclusive”).

Second, Batman V Superman did not benefit from the rabid curiosity that comes with leaked poor quality footage. Warner Bros. released its new trailer to the public almost immediately after it previewed at SDCC 2015, making it easily accessible and free. Suicide Squad, on the other hand, played hard to get; it made us work for and earn it. And something earned is always better than something given (hence the planned Comic-Con leaks theory).

Third and finally, in terms of visual aesthetic and movie trailer artistry, Suicide Squad (in this writer’s opinion) has the better trailer. Sure, it may not have give equal time to each member of the squad or explained the story beat-by-beat to casual viewers, but that’s what made it great; that’s what made it intriguing. It baited audiences with a taste of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Jared Leto’s Joker, while setting an eerily irresistible tone and teasing potential story lines (i.e. the birth of Enchantress) – all over phenomenal editing synced with an appropriately haunting song. While Batman V Superman provided our first look at Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor in action, it may have shot itself in the foot (with a kryptonite bullet) by cramming in too much and trying to explain the story to casual viewers.

Interestingly enough, though, Screen Rant fans exhibited a different opinion than that of the general YouTube public. Following the release of both trailers, we conducted a poll on Twitter to determine which trailer was more well received by our readers. In the end, Batman V Superman led with double the votes.The difference in results is actually surprising. One would think the general public would be more receptive to Batman V Superman rather than Suicide Squad, considering the familiarity of universally known characters like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman as opposed to more obscure characters like Killer Croc, El Diablo, and Enchantress. Obviously neither the Twitter poll nor YouTube is definitive, but nonetheless, the contradictory response is interesting.

Whatever your opinion, though, both films have undeniably encountered their fair share of fan skepticism and hostility. From Eisenberg’s casting as Lex Luthor to Joker’s tattoos and teeth fillings, no change or divergence from comic book lore has been left unscathed. That said, the true test will ultimately come when both films hit the big screen, either proving that the DCEU is here to stay, or that a darker superhero universe is not what audiences want.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will be in theaters on March 25th, 2016;

Suicide Squad on August 5th, 2016;

Wonder Woman – June 23rd, 2017;

Justice League – November 17th, 2017;

The Flash – March 23rd, 2018;

Aquaman – July 27th, 2018;

Shazam – April 5th, 2019;

Justice League 2 – June 14th, 2019;

Cyborg – April 3rd, 2020;

[h=1]‘Suicide Squad': Cara Delevingne Teases Enchantress’ Dual Personas[/h]

buzz for Suicide Squad has been growing since a first-look trailer for the dark superhero thriller debuted at San Diego Comic-Con a few weeks ago. DC is hoping that this movie will help launch its cinematic universe as an alternative to the one Marvel’s been building since 2008’s Iron Man. With stars like Will Smith, Jared Leto and Margot Robbie front and center, the pressure is on for Suicide Squad to live up to lofty expectations. One of the many actresses with a co-starring part in the ensemble film is Cara Delevingne, who’s in the midst of a press tour for her starring role in the movie adaptation of John Green’s novel Paper Towns, in theaters now. Along with her role in Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” music video, Delevingne has been increasingly present in the public eye and seems to have her eye on movie stardom, or at least a career beyond modeling. An important role in a superhero movie, especially a large-scale one like Suicide Squad, seems symbolic of the actress’ significant ambitions.

During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Delevingne revealed a bit of backstory about her audition for the film. She was one of the first people to audition for the movie, and she didn’t even know what it was when she went in, because the script hadn’t been finished yet. She read a monologue from “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” and hoped it would be enough for director David Ayer, who has a penchant for riling up actors during auditions.
“By the time I left, I literally wanted to kill someone. I was so angry. I said to [Ayer], ‘If I kill someone on the way home, you better bail me out of jail, because I’m furious.”
She’s playing the dual role of Enchantress, who she describes as a “mousy scientist” and a “crazy, feral witch.” She joked to Meyers that the role encapsulates both sides of her personality.
Cara Delevingne as Enchantress in Suicide Squad

These brief teases build on previous speculation about what role Enchantress will play in Suicide Squad and in the larger DC universe that will unravel in the next couple years. The actress’ previous comments and brief appearance in the trailer suggest that the character will be possessed in some way, perhaps by a demon lurking in a cavern as she was in the comics. Given that Delevingne will be playing a character described as “mousy,” perhaps Ayer plans to play up the contrast between her personality pre- and post-possession.
Delevingne is not the first actress that comes to mind at the sound of the word “mousy,” and it seems like this role will stretch her beyond what she’s done in her previous film roles, to date. But it also sounds like Ayer cast her with the intention of drawing out emotions that she didn’t realize she had, and the anger she references in this Meyers interview should make for an interesting contrast. It’s still unclear to what extent Enchantress will factor into the formation of the Suicide Squad and the threats it will face under the guidance of Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), but with violent anger lurking under the surface, it will be interesting to find out.

[h=1]‘Suicide Squad’ Set Photo Hints at Harley Quinn’s Origin[/h]

[WARNING: This article contains potentially HUGE SPOILERS for Suicide Squad.]–
The harder Warner Bros. tries to keep a tight lid on the filming of Suicide Squad, the more leaks there are from the set. There’s no denying we learned much about the upcoming supervillain flick from the various set photos and videos taken while David Ayer and cast were filming on location. And it’s those leaks that led to WB dropping an official photo of the whole squad in costume, an action they repeated a few months later when a leaked version of the Comic-Con trailer showed up online and WB promptly released an official copy.
If these persistent leaks from the Suicide Squad set prove anything (beyond how easy it is to walk on movie set these days), it’s the intensity of our interest. Once WB’s hand was forced and they released the official Suicide Squad trailer online it quickly surpassed Batman V Superman in views – a film further along in production with more footage to reveal, unlike Suicide Squad which had likely just filmed enough material to cut that teaser.

Suffice it say, there’s buzz surrounding Suicide Squad and it’s one of the more positive responses to WB and DC Entertainment’s movie plans. A good deal of that buzz is directed at Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, who simply stole the show in the film’s first trailer. She’s been the center of many of the set leaks as well, with photos and videos depicting first her outfit, then her interactions with Jared Leto’s Joker, and finally hints at her origin – something we suspected would feature somewhat prominently in Suicide Squad.
[h=2]MASSIVE SPOILERS FOLLOW[/h]
––––––
Compared with DC’s other big name stars, Harley Quinn is a relatively new addition. But even within the shorter lifespan of her character, she’s endured more than her fair share of retconning, particularly with respect to her origin. We won’t know which version inspired Ayer the most until we see the film, but this latest leaked set image seemingly implies Suicide Squad is pulling from the more recent New 52 origin for Harley Quinn.
The below image comes from Robbie’s stunt double, Ingrid Kleinig’s Instagram account (which has since been deleted) and clearly shows the logo for Ace Chemicals:

Ace Chemicals figures largely in the origin of The Joker as it’s where he (as the hapless crook, the Red Hood) first squares off against Batman, only to end up falling into a vat of chemicals, which transforms him into The Joker. Thanks to a recent reboot of DC Comic’s continuity, it’s an origin that Harley Quinn now shares – having been lured to Ace Chemicals by The Joker after freeing him from Arkham Asylum, he throws her into large chemical vat, permanently altering her appearance and deranging her mind.
Though the change from her previous origin – where her obsession with The Joker drives her to don the costume identity Harley Quinn and help him escape – may appear slight, it’s been a point of contention among fans. Whereas her descent into madness always starts with her unhealthy obsession with The Joker, the New 52 origin robs Harley of the choice to fully go off the deep end. Instead, The Joker forces her to undergo the same transformation, furthering the victim-hood of her character.

Still, simply because Suicide Squad is filming on an Ace Chemicals set and Robbie’s stunt double was there doesn’t guarantee we’ll see Harley’s New 52 origin in the movie. Ayer may only be pulling certain elements from Harley Quinn’s history that best suit his vision of the character, and a final transformation via chemicals would explain Robbie’s white pallor.
We also know from previous set images as well as few shots from the trailer that for a period of the film Robbie is playing Dr. Harleen Quinzel, Arkham psychiatrist, before she becomes Harley Quinn. That implies her origin will be depicted, but again, doesn’t necessitate it to follow exactly what’s recently transpired in the comics. For instance, the trailer features a shot of Robbie strapped to a table and being threatened (presumably by The Joker) with electrodes – perhaps that plays a role in how poor Harley is driven totally nuts in Ayer’s Suicide Squad?
What do you think of Ace Chemicals appearing in Suicide Squad? Will it feature in Harley Quinn’s origin or simply as a callback to The Joker’s creation? Sound off in the comments below!

‘Suicide Squad': Jim Parrack is Playing Jonny Frost

David Ayer’s upcoming antihero movie Suicide Squad is about a black ops team made up of some of the deadliest bad guys and bad girls from the pages of DC Comics, but not all of the villains in the movie are going to be on the team. For starters there’s Jared Leto’s Joker, whom even Amanda Waller would struggle to keep under control for long enough to be useful.

While most of the main cast – which includes Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje – have had their supervillain alter-egos revealed, one actor whose role has remained unclear is True Blood star Jim Parrack, whose involvement was revealed when he was shown in one of the very first Suicide Squad cast photos. Now we finally know who Parrack will be playing.

Actress Corina Calderon, who has a smaller role in Suicide Squad and previously appeared in Ayer’s cop drama End of Watch, shared a since-deleted post on Instagram (preserved by CBM) revealing that Parrack is playing Jonny Frost, the Joker’s henchman and chauffeur:

“All #HappyCamper on my way to set again, going earlier than my #CallTime just to be there and watch my boy Jim Parrack playing #JonnyFrost do his Thang #SuicideSquad.”
By itself this post may not have qualified as a 100% confirmation of Parrack’s role, but it fits with an ongoing pattern of information. The first mention of Parrack playing Jonny Frost came during an episode of Meet the Movie Press several months ago, in which TheWrap reporter Jeff Sneider (well known for breaking exclusive stories) said he’d been “told from reliable sources that Jim Parrack is in fact playing Jonny Frost.” This also explains the one brief shot that we saw of Parrack in the Suicide Squad trailer: walking ahead of the Joker during an attack on a laboratory.

Jonny Frost appears in Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo’s 2008 graphic novel “Joker”, as a bottom-rung thug who becomes a temporary chauffeur for the Joker after the supervillain takes a shine to him. The inclusion of the character may speak to Ayer’s comic book inspirations for Suicide Squad, as “Joker” definitely contains one of the more mature and disturbing portrayals of the Joker, and the Suicide Squad trailer promised what looks like a dark and grimy take on the source material.

Playing bodyguard to the Joker is a dangerous job, so it’s possible that the first time we see Parrack in the role of Jonny Frost might also be the last. Still, at least he’ll enjoy an exciting career, even if it is short-lived.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will be in theaters on March 25th, 2016; Suicide Squad on August 5th, 2016; Wonder Woman – June 23rd, 2017; Justice League – November 17th, 2017; The Flash – March 23rd, 2018; Aquaman – July 27th, 2018; Shazam – April 5th, 2019; Justice League 2 – June 14th, 2019; Cyborg – April 3rd, 2020; Green Lantern Corps – June 19th, 2020.

so glad he aint deathstroke :)
Rumor is Scott Eastwood would be Deathstroke, or maybe Dick grayson, and being a spy for batman working at ARGUS. That sounds unlikely, so i guess he will be deathstroke.
He doesn't fit the role of Slade. They should have choosen Arrow's deathstroke actor Manu Bennett. No one will come near to him, he played the role like a pro. I might be over exaggerating, i find Slade in Arrow to be the best bad ass villain ever

[h=1]‘Suicide Squad': Jared Leto Makes Another ‘Killing Joke’ Reference[/h]

‘The Killing Joke’ by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland.
With Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, the brand new DC Extended Universe had its official beginning, and this fictional world of superheroes and supervillains will continue in 2016 with Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. While there’s curiosity about how all of DC’s upcoming heroes and villains will be handled, Jared Leto’s version of the Joker is among those receiving the most attention. After all, following Heath Ledger’s critically-acclaimed version from The Dark Knight is no easy task.
The first officially released image of Leto as Joker revealed the iconic Batman villain is being handled in a very different way – a way which has a slight nod to Frank Miller and Jim Lee’s All-Star Batman and Robin: The Boy Wonder. Initial reactions to a Joker covered in tattoos were mixed and there’s ongoing debate about the character’s potential. However, Leto has been showing Joker’s source material some love on his social media pages, and he’s dropped yet another possible reference to Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s classic story, The Killing Joke.

Allan Moore and Brian Bolland’sgraphic novel The Killing Joke has received a couple of nods, first when Leto recreated the classic cover of Joker aiming a camera at the viewer, and then later in an official character image inspired by a memorable panel from Killing Joke. Now Leto has shared an image on Twitter that has fans wondering if he’s giving Moore and Bolland’s popular story yet another nod. In the photo, Leto’s shadow reveals he’s wearing a hat that looks very similar to the one Joker wore when he infamously shot and paralyzed Barbara Gordon/Batgirl – a heroine who has possibly already been cast.

pic.twitter.com/9h5yFTRmCU
— JARED LETO (@JaredLeto) August 10, 2015
Leto’s band, 30 Seconds to Mars, will have a 3-day camping event in Malibu, CA towards the end of August, and based on his Twitter page it looks like that’s probably where the actor took the latest picture. Since he’s previously referenced Killing Joke, it seems clear this is just another way for him to help get fans excited about the DCEU’s upcoming movies, and it probably shouldn’t be viewed as a sign that Killing Joke will have a strong amount of influence in Suicide Squad. After all, Leto’s been known to truly dedicate himself to a role, and this could just be a fun way of showing his fans that yes, he is indeed the Joker.
As seen in the Batman v Superman trailer, it appears Joker’s presence will be felt in Snyder’s movie, but Suicide Squad is where he’ll get more time in the spotlight. Not only has Ayer’s movie teased Joker turning Margot Robbie’s character into Harley Quinn, but considering both the Oscar-winning actor and the villain’s status, it’s safe to say Joker will get a proper amount of time to shine in Suicide Squad. Whether or not there will be several nods to Killing Joke is a whole different story; one that we’ll just have to wait to find out.
Meanwhile, Killing Joke will receive an animated movie in 2016. Mark Hamill, who voiced the character in Batman: The Animated Series and the Arkham video game franchise – will reportedly reprise his role. Fingers crossed Kevin Conroy will voice Batman.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25th, 2016, followed by Suicide Squad on August 5th, 2016; Wonder Woman on June 23rd, 2017; Justice League on November 17th, 2017; The Flash on March 23rd, 2018; Aquaman on July 27th, 2018; Shazam on April 5th, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14th, 2019; Cyborg on April 3rd, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on June 19th, 2020.

[h=1]Suicide Squad’s Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Offers New Look at Killer Croc[/h]

2016 will see DC and Warner Bros. truly launch their interconnected movie universe, with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice building on the foundation laid out in 2013’s Man of Steel. Later that year, David Ayer’s Suicide Squad will follow, presenting an entirely different dimension of the same narrative world.
In fact, this introduction to some of DC’s most famous – and dangerous – villains is shaping up to be a pivotal entry in DC and Warner Bros.’ mega-franchise, as the characters set to appear (some for the first time onscreen) have historically been adversaries of many different superheroes: Jared Leto’s Joker will be joined by (among others) Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc.

Among the many and varied questions fans have about this attempt to frontload the DC cinematic universe with some major supervillains (how will Leto’s Joker compare to what’s come before? What are Harley Quinn’s origins? How does Batman fit in?) the depiction of famed Batman villain Waylon Jones/Killer Croc is not least among them.
Our first real glimpse of the new Croc came in the form of Suicide Squad‘s first official group picture, with the movie’s Comic Con trailer giving us a longer look. Now, in honor of Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s 48th birthday, his fellow cast member Will Smith gave him a cake reading “HAPPY BIRTHDAY CROC” and the two posed for a picture, with Akinnuoye-Agbaje in his full Killer Croc make-up. Click the link below (via Comicbook.com) to take a look.
[h=2]Click here for Killer Croc photo[/h]This is a raw, close look at the Killer Croc prosthetic mask and make-up without any movie lighting or special effects to enhance it. Akinnuoye-Agbaje looks more like a lizard man from an episode of Star Trek (or maybe the Silurian reptile people from Doctor Who) than the traditional depiction of Killer Croc in the comics – but then again, the look of the character tends to vary wildly.

Originally appearing in 1983 (his storyline coincided with the introduction of Jason Todd), Waylon Jones/Croc’s backstory was reconfigured for DC’s New 52 reboot, but not by much. He is depicted as living in the sewers or on the fringe of society, has hardened skin and super strength, a condition explained as a form of atavism (having inherited genetic aspects of humans’ ancestral species – in this case reptiles).
He has recently played a role in the popular Batman: Arkham line of games, appearing first in Arkham Asylum with an oversized jaw and exaggerated mouthful of teeth. Croc showed up again in the prequel game Batman: Arkham Origins, with the similar size and strength but a relatively normal-sized jaw and head. In the Suicide Squad trailer, Croc is first trussed up like Hannibal Lecter and our next brief look shows him sneering and gives us a brief look at some very sharp-looking teeth.
Judging by this un-enhanced view of the Croc make-up, our final version of Killer Croc in the film will have a mouth with expressions aided by the use of animatronics or (more likely) CGI to give him a more gaping maw. Will this version of Waylon Jones prove faithful to the source material? We’ll find out for sure next year.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will be in theaters on March 25th, 2016; Suicide Squad on August 5th, 2016; Wonder Woman – June 23rd, 2017; Justice League – November 17th, 2017; The Flash – March 23rd, 2018; Aquaman – July 27th, 2018; Shazam – April 5th, 2019; Justice League 2 – June 14th, 2019; Cyborg – April 3rd, 2020; Green Lantern – June 19th, 2020.

[h=1]Suicide Squad: Henry Cavill Says No Superman Appearance[/h]

In 2016, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment will finally expand their much-awaited shared DC cinematic universe (dubbed the DC Extended Universe) with both Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and David Ayer’s Suicide Squad hitting theaters. After presentations for the two films went over very well at San Diego Comic-Con 2015, anticipation for the movies has only grown and many are eager to see how all the pieces come together.
We know that Suicide Squad is going to have some connections to the larger Justice League universe; Batman (Ben Affleck) was featured in a brief sequence during the trailer, and it’s been rumored that Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) is in possession of Aquaman’s (Jason Momoa) trident. But from the sound of it, Ayer won’t be forcing in too many Easter eggs during his film.

In an interview with Metro, DCEU Superman Henry Cavill confirmed that he would not be appearing in Suicide Squad, but left the possibility open for a role in a potential sequel. Given the full slate of DC films Warner Bros. is working with right now, that Suicide Squad followup is probably a long ways away, so it’s best to focus on Cavill not having a part in next summer’s film.
On the outset, it’s really not that shocking that Superman won’t be featured in the film. Even though Kal-El is a large part of the world, there’s no rule that says he must be in every DC film. After all, Iron Man doesn’t stop by every Marvel movie just to show audiences that the projects are part of the same franchise. There are organic ways to establish connective tissue, and it’s best for the filmmakers to pursue those options so nothing comes across as forced. Plus, with the focus of Suicide Squad being the evildoers of the universe, it’s hard to see where exactly Superman would fit.

That’s not to say Superman won’t be mentioned in Suicide Squad. You may recall a line in the trailer where Amanda Waller speculates that the Last Son of Krypton’s appearance in Man of Steel may have influenced her prisoners with “abilities” to come out of hiding and usher in a new era for society. The catastrophic Battle of Metropolis obviously had major repercussions in the DCEU (it’s the basis for the Batman v Superman conflict), so it would seem odd if Suicide Squad didn’t at least acknowledge what has happened and how it affects the actions of the characters in the film. That’s all part of your standard film universe building.
Obviously, we still need to see how the DCEU plays out over the next five years, but this development also raises some questions about Warner Bros.’ methods with developing their films. Snyder has stated that even though all of the movies are connected to each other, he still wants all the various directors to be able to “stretch their legs” and put their own stamp on their films. Batman v Superman producer Charles Roven even indicated that the studio would be willing to “push our boundaries” to allow some more creative leeway if the director needed. Warner Bros. has maintained from the start that a filmmaker-driven approach is what they’re striving for.
And that’s what seems to be happening here. Warner Bros. hired Ayer to tell the best possible Suicide Squad story on-screen, and the narrative he came up with simply does not require a scene or two with Superman. That Kal-El isn’t in the film should be comforting for fans, as it shows the studio is serious about letting their directors work somewhat independently within the larger sandbox of their blossoming franchise and craft compelling films.

[h=1]Suicide Squad’s Jared Leto Says ‘Goodbye’ To Joker As Filming Wraps[/h]

After fans were blasted with Jared Leto’s grilled and tattooed take on DC Comics’ the Joker, the actor has become the somewhat controversial center of focus for the upcoming Suicide Squad film. Leto takes on the role – most recently portrayed in live-action form by the late Heath Ledger in director Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight – as a way of offering a clean start for the iconic villain on the big screen.
Production on Suicide Squad wrapped this week (at the time of writing this) on August 24th, 2015, with co-writer/director David Ayer (End of Watch, Fury) and the film’s cast celebrating by way of (what else?) a wrap party. However, Leto did more than that to mark the end of filming on the project.

With a day of Suicide Squad finishing production, Leto took to Instagram, teasing his post-Joker haircut (see below):

Social media has become such a major marketing force for the film industry, every little thing related to a film could provide fans with another kernel to ponder as they await its release date. This tactic has proven especially effective within the sub-genre of superhero films, with the viral Deadpool film marketing efforts of star Ryan Reynolds and 20th Century Fox being one such recent example. Suicide Squad has also taken advantage of the large number of social-media-savvy superhero fans, offering a steady stream of images and video from the film’s production, with a heavy focus both on Leto’s Joker and Margot Robbie’s take on his unhinged paramour Harley Quinn.
Fans initially decried both Leto’s tattoos and dental grill in the photo — as both are striking departures from the comic book source material — going so far as to speculate that his post wasn’t really how the Joker was going to be portrayed, but rather a joke; at least until the Suicide Squad trailer confirmed that this was going to be his look for the film. But this isn’t an uncommon phenomenon. Fan outrage over comic book adaptations have been around roughly as long as comic book adaptations have been around.

Fans were outraged when Michael Keaton was chosen to portray Batman in the 1989 film, and even panned initial images of Ledger’s Joker. Both performances are now considered iconic, if not classic, among comic book aficionados. While the latest incarnation is yet another departure from the familiar, there’s no reason to doubt that an Oscar-winning talent like Leto can’t make it mesmerizing. Already, initial resistance has started to fade in the wake of the first Suicide Squad footage being unveiled. Perhaps Leto’s take will come to be revered right alongside Ledger’s once the film is released.

[h=1]Suicide Squad Crew Mark the End of Filming With Photos & Tattoos[/h]

While 2016 is slated to be jam-packed with all the superhero mayhem you could ever want, need, or ask for, one film in particular looks to stand out from the pack. With its focus on villains rather than heroes, Suicide Squad promises to be a comic book movie unlike any that’s come before – one that significantly expands the mythos Warner Brothers and DC have been building for their cinematic universe, too.
Suicide Squad follows a gang of legendary DC baddies who’ve been imprisoned and recruited to join a top secret squadron – one tasked with deadly missions, in order to earn time off their sentences. Led by the notoriously ambiguous Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), the team includes Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), Enchantress (Care Delevingne), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), and Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman). Also set to appear are the new Joker (Jared Leto) and Batman (Ben Affleck), after the latter debuts first in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Suicide Squad writer/director David Ayer (Fury, End of Watch) has formally announced on Twitter that the Suicide Squad production has wrapped, after the news got out earlier this week. To mark the occasion, the director posted a photo of the entire cast and crew, as seen below:

It's a wrap folks! #SuicideSquad #WarnerBros #DCcomics pic.twitter.com/1Rkvd9t3JX
— David Ayer (@DavidAyerMovies) August 28, 2015
The film’s wrap marks the end of an uphill battle faced by cast and crew to win over the hearts and minds of fans who have been famously skeptical of Suicide Squad‘s casting decisions and direction. The reaction to Leto’s Joker look was especially divisive, with commenters taking umbrage at his “style”. Robbie’s appearance has likewise rubbed some fans the wrong way, when compared to Harley Quinns past (like in the Batman: The Animated Series). However, the overall fan reception has warmed since the release of Suicide Squad footage at San Diego Comic-Con 2015.
Meanwhile, to further commemorate the end of production, Delevingne uploaded a pair of pictures to her Instagram account, showing herself getting in on the Suicide Squad cast’s trend of getting tattoos (and giving their coworkers matching tattoos), to celebrate the end of shooting. Have a look at those pics, below:

Suicide Squad definitely presents risks to WB/DC’s universe-building efforts, but one that could prove to pay off nicely. So far, the DC approach has been to embrace the grimdark elements of its properties, which marks a vast difference from Marvel’s slick, glossy approach. To that end, Suicide Squad gels nicely with their overall approach. Gritty realism is the hallmark of the DC cinematic universe, even with its cast of high powered superheroes. From this angle, we might just be surprised by what the studio has to offer, and Suicide Squad could make a huge splash on its release.
It’s heartening to see such enthusiasm from the cast in regards to Suicide Squad and it speaks well to the quality of film they have been attempting to produce. Cast members don’t always agree to get tatted up to commemorate their filming experience; the fact that so many are willing going under the gun is suggestive not only of the bonds they formed, but of their belief in the film’s potential too. After all, you don’t normally get a tattoo to remember the bad times, so their willingness to mark their bodies is, hopefully, a sign of good things to come.

[h=1]Suicide Squad: Will Smith Says Jared Leto Went ‘All in on the Joker’[/h]

The third installment in DC Comics’ shared movie universe (referred to by Zack Snyder as the DC Expanded Universe, or DCEU) should prove to be a unique one, as it will focus on a team of supervillains rather than the heroes who oppose them. As momentum steadily builds towards the summer 2016 release of Suicide Squad, fans are eager for every bit of news concerning the film.
The A-list cast of Suicide Squad is set to take on an eclectic group of villains, with Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) and Deadshot (Will Smith) leading the way. Easily the most scrutinized character in the star-studded affair will be Jared Leto’s Joker, whose inclusion in the film was a source of controversy from the very beginning. Heath Ledger’s performance as the Clown Prince of Crime in The Dark Knight was beloved by critics and audiences alike, and by the time Suicide Squad hits theaters, it’ll only have been eight years since the character was last seen in theaters. Ledger earned a posthumous Academy Award for his work in the film, so it’s safe to say that Leto has a tall task ahead of him.

Outside of the brief glimpse at the character fans were given at the end of the Comic-Con trailer, we know very little about the Joker’s role in the film, nor do we know how well Leto has fared with his most high-profile role to date. Thankfully, Will Smith’s appearance on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show earlier today gave us a bit more insight. After announcing updates on his upcoming world tour and discussing his career trajectory, Smith was asked about his first foray into the comic book world. Smith described the film as “insane” before going into further detail on his impression of Jared Leto’s Joker. Check out the full interview below (the Suicide Squad talk occurs around the 15:45 mark):
Here is the most interesting bit from Smith’s discussion about his co-star:
“I’ve never actually met Jared Leto. We worked together for 6 months and we’ve never exchanged a word outside of ‘Action!’ and ‘Cut!’ We’ve never said ‘Hello,’ we’ve never said ‘Good day.’ I’ve only ever spoken to him as Deadshot and him as the Joker. I literally have not met him yet. So, the first time I see him will be ‘Hey, Jared. What’s up?’Not a single word exchanged off camera. He was all in on the Joker…I’m looking forward to meeting him.”
Smith’s comments on Leto’s method acting pretty much fall in line with what we’ve heard from co-star Margot Robbie, who said she was “petrified” of him. Though some may be concerned about an actor taking such an extreme approach to a role (keep in mind that director David Ayer actually employed a therapist on set), this seems to be an instance where such a level of dedication is actually a job requirement. The Joker is one of the most dangerous villains in comic book history, and quite possibly the craziest. In order for an actor to give a worthy portrayal of such a maniac, it makes sense that he would have to push himself so close to the deep end. And in a film where it seems that the Joker will be surrounded by crazies, this could be a great way for Leto’s star to shine.With the release of Suicide Squad still a ways off, fans should expect to hear a lot more stories like this over the coming months. Leto’s “all in” portrayal of the Joker could very well make or break this film, but it should prove to be a memorable performance either way. Whether or not you approve of the new Joker, you can’t help but admire Leto’s dedication to the role.Suicide Squad opens on August 5th, 2016.Source: Beats 1 (via Complex)

[h=1]Suicide Squad Actress Says Jared Leto Joker is ‘Mesmerizing’[/h]

Suicide Squad is arguably the most hotly anticipated new superhero film based on characters lifted from the pages of DC Comics — save for Zack Snyder’s equally anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. While Snyder’s film will be receiving an earlier release date set for March 2016, the film — which will be written and directed by David Ayer — is just as much on the forefront of every comic book fan’s mind of late.
In the wake of the first feature length trailer for Ayer’s take on the anti-hero vigilante team, all eyes have been on Jared Leto’s infamous Joker character. Word from the set has been nothing short of hyperbolic when it comes to discussing Leto’s ability, with co-stars Will Smith and Margot Robbie citing the actor’s ability to go “all in” on a performance that will be sure to leave viewers “petrified” — a sentiment which another featured star from the film is reportedly willing to further attest to.

According to a recent interview with HHB Media (see above), Corina Calderon, whose exact role in the new film is still being kept under wraps, found Leto to be a more than stunning addition to the film’s all-star cast, leaving the young actress in a state of shock and awe. In conversation, Calderon remarked she was “absolutely mesmerized” and that watching Leto was “an amazing lesson” that gave her a “whole new freedom as an actress.”
With so many of his fellow cast members praising his turn as Gotham’s Clown Prince of Crime, Leto’s turn as the Joker will be something to discuss come the film’s August 2016 theatrical release, to say the least. Granted, everything said so far about the performance in question has come from within the realm of the production itself, so all the talk about Ayer’s singular conception of the Joker may be nothing more than contractually obligated screen actors talking nice about their latest project.
On the other hand, the fact that more than one performer has come forward singing Leto’s praises certainly speaks to something, and based on the footage released so far such talk may be right. Until next summer, fans will have to wait patiently to see where Ayer and Leto will take the infamous Batman villain next, though things are looking and sounding good of late.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25th, 2016; Suicide Squad on August 5th, 2016; Wonder Woman on June 23rd, 2017; Justice League on November 17th, 2017; The Flash on March 23rd, 2018; Aquaman on July 27th, 2018; Shazam on April 5th, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14th, 2019; Cyborg on April 3rd, 2020; Green Lantern Corps on June 19th, 2020. Untitled Batman and Superman solo films will be coming at dates TBD.
