Hey guys,
I am thinking of buying a 2600k , but i am not sure which motherboard to buy...

my basic requirements are

MotherBoard

atleast PCIe 2.1 ( i dont want SLI)
DDR3 1600
i dont need built in VGA or SOUND as i have separate cards for that
Extreme Overclocking
sata 6Gb/s
USB 3.0
Latest chipset

or add anything you want to suggest

Memory:
Now i am a corsair fan,
so i was thinking of going for Corsair Vengeance Series,
http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-PC3-12800-1600mhz-CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8R/dp/B0056KUWTS/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1317543903&sr=1-7
Two of These for dual channel memory architecture
as usually processors suport 1333 and motherboards support max 1600 .. so buying 2000 would be like ,i dont know, waste of resources when you cant actually reach those speeds... plus they ll have higher latency...

Any other suggestions with good arguments are welcome...

Kindly hurry as i have to order this stuff from amazon tomorrow... Thanks

Well generally speaking you can actually reach those 2000 marks by overclocking but then again it may won't effect on real life performance specially when you've a CPU like i7-2600k so my advice to you is buy something that at least worth buying.

well get 4gb ram atleast... corsair vengeance series would do just fine(well atleast for me)... i bought mine last week and i was also confused whether to get p67 or z68 mobos... people over here were pretty sure that p67 is best bang for buck because the difference isn't much so i went with a p67 mobo... i am not overclocking right now but i will in the future... there will be built in sound so you cannot do anything about that:p

Since you're ordering this stuff from foreign shops, so here's my suggestion.
ASRock Z68 Professional Gen.3 Motherboard (Socket 1155, DDR2, Micro ATX, ASRock Instant Boot)

This mBoard has almost everything that you need (USB3 + Sata 6GB/sec + Latest chipset till now)
The only thing is differ from your needs is 2x PCI-e slots but I think it's fine as long as you're not using both at the same time.
hmm nice... lol @ the wrong info by Amazon i.e. DDR2..

bro why not any Asus or MSI Mobo? as i hav used both Asus and MSI in past and i am quite a fan of their overclocking features and stability.. so i was wondering to go for Asus again this time...

Yeah, to be perfectly honest, those are available locally.. So buy something that's unique and not available LOCALLY, same applies for RAMs those Corsair RAMs are available locally, if you really wanna buy something that is good and cheap you should go for G.Skill Snipers they're not available locally too..

P8Z68-V PRO
AND
P8Z68 Deluxe - LGA 1155 - Z68 - SATA 6Gbps and USB 3.0 - ATX Intel Z68 DDR3 2200 Motherboards
Are other good options buy Asus and their BEST alternative would be,
MSI LGA1155 Intel Z68 G3 DDR3 CrossFireX & SLI SATA3 & USB3.0 ATX Motherboard - Z68A-GD65 (G3)

Note that there're two rev. of MSI Z68 one is B3 and second is G3, G3 is newer so you should get this one. :)

[Edited #1]
Also, don't worry about wrong information there, Amazon is renown for their wrong infro. :)

[Edited #2]
For multi GPUs (3 or more) nothing is better than EVGA Z68 FTW in case the budget is not a problem, but since you don't need extra PCI-e slots I wouldn't recommending going with these. :)

Alright man, here's what i think. You wanna overclock your 2600K till extreme limit's right? so that can also be done with a $130 board and also with a $270 board (being the z68 fatality that styles mentioned). Now the extra features like more USB3 port's,more sata port's would be present with of course the more expensive one but is it still worth it? That totally depends on you now.

Man,what you should look at is
- Would you be doing Sli in the future?
- Would you like your system to be future proof,to be compatible with product's coming next year or not?
- And mostly after considering all of this, how much now do you really wanna spend on a motherboard?

Now comes my advice:
Of course I'd want you to buy a motherboard which is compatible with the oncoming future product's and which is also based on the latest chipset itself which is the Z68.The following are the motherboard's that i think you should be looking into Starting from the cheapest :

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157271

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157264

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130597

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131753

ASRock and MSI are providing PCI-E 3.0 support but not with the ASUS.All of these Motherboard's would Overclock your 2600k at least till 5Ghz,but the prices vary according to what feature's you really want in them.

As far as Ram's are concerned,G.Skill is your winner over here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231430

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231444

They have better timing's than Corsair which also makes them perform better.Right now Sandy-Bridge's memory controller support's speed's of 1333Mhz so most ram's faster than these speed's only have a small effect of an increase in performance but not a large one.But the reason why i've mentioned about these 1600Mhz ram's is that Ivy bridge's memory controller would mainly be supporting up till 1600Mhz which would just keep your system future proof.

yar I am only able to buy from amazon ,
The rams there are only l9 versions of rams available there...

btw how much performance difference would be in l6 to l9 rams???

plus should i buy 4X2GB or 2X4gb??

which setup would be better??

You can buy it from amazon also if you want to......all you need to do is post those model No's over there that's if you can do that :p

Cas-6 ram's would definitely be faster than Cas-9 as the Cycle time is lesser hence, ram's performing quicker. We use the term "Tighter" when comparing these two.C6 ram's have tighter timing's than C9 ram's which would make them perform faster.

And you haven't written that correctly, you mean 4 stick's being 2GB,making it 8GB total each versus 2-stick's,each having 4GB making it 8GB total.

I'am sure you mean the difference between 2x2Gb and 2x4GB.
Remember this, the larger the memory in size of a single stick, the looser its timing's would be at the same particular speed, comparing it to a memory stick having lesser memory.
Hence,2x2GB would perform faster giving it an overall of 4GB total memory and i'am sure you wouldn't need more than 4 gig's unless you're a Graphics Designer.

Bro Get MSI Z68-GD65 G3 I Am Using It I Recommend It Highly
Same words
Go for MSI Z68 GD65 g3
My question to both of you , does this motherboard supports 1600mhz ram by default or we have to OC it to work with 1600 Rams... now from what i saw on the specs sheet there is a star with 1600 too which means 1600 @ overclocked
i dont think thats cool that the mobo should be overclocked at all times to run with Rams which are at their stock speeds , other than that i am totally in to this mobo

• Supports four unbuffered DIMM of 1.5 Volt DDR3 1066/1333/1600*/2133*(OC) DRAM, 32GB Max
You can buy it from amazon also if you want to......all you need to do is post those model No's over there that's if you can do that :p

Ok i got it..
how would you suggest a 4x4GB setup.. for 16GB ram.. will 16 gb ram really benefit me against 8gb of ram and will i really see some practicle results..??

About the Mobo thing,if you're getting ram's faster than 1333Mhz,e.g. 1600Mhz ones, then you manually gotta go in the bios and enable something known as their XMP profile to enable them to run at their advertised speed's.And no,this isn't any overclocking method......Its just that most mobo's run it default at 1333Mhz.

About the memory of ram's,it basically depend's on your PC usage. What i mean is that if you got at least 10 start-up program's and you run's many program's simultaneously only then 8-16GB ram is needed.
Otherwise even 4GB is good enough. But don't go higher than 8GB as it basically wouldn't benefit you in any way.

2x4gb

Why? Future room for upgrade and ease in selling in the future.

Yaar avoid 2gb rams modules. They will be very hard to sell later on.. Thats my observation. Get 4gbx2 instead. Cheaper and better. Plus gives you room for future upgrading should you need to upgrade
