Sony PlayStation 5 : Play Has No Limits

PS5 Release Date, PS5 Games, PS5 Power vs Xbox One X, PS5 Price Speculation - All the PS5 Info lets discuss

Here are all the rumors and speculation surrounding the PS5, including a potential PS5 release date, power, and launch games of Sony's inevitable PS5. Is the PS5 releasing in 2019?

What we Want From the PS5 Speculation aside, what would we ideally want from the PS5? Backwards compatibility for PS4 games would be brilliant, simply because you'd be able to carry over classics like the Shadow of the Colossus remake to the next console generation. We've seen how well Microsoft is handling backwards compatibility with its Xbox One consoles (including getting amazing results updating Xbox 360 games to run in 4K on Xbox One X), and something similar on PS5 would be great.

In terms of pure power, the PlayStation 5 has to significantly exceed the power of the Xbox One X. This means featuring more games running in 4K at 60FPS. If the PS5 can deliver about 10 TF of power we'd be happy, as this would allow devs to create games that look a generation ahead of what we've got now.

But what would the dream launch lineup be for the PS5? Death Stranding and The Last of Us: Part 2 are hugely anticipated blockbuster games, with the former especially looking to push the performance of whatever system it's on to the very limit. We've also mentioned Ghost of Tsushima and a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, and the latter would be the perfect way to kick off a new console cycle from Sony.

“Oh yeah, so there’s Nintendo who supports you,” one such response begins. “[Then] Microsoft who supports you and [then] there is Sony who supports its own AAA machine and gives a fuck about everyone else.”
“Sony does not understand what indie means,” an independent publisher tells me under the condition of anonymity, via Twitter DMs. “Not at all. For them indie is something in the lower million budgets.”

“No platform is ‘great’, but Sony is particularly terrible,” says another publisher to me via Discord. “They know it too—they’ve had a problem for a long time, and they’ve been telling devs they have a problem for a long time, but they’ve just never fixed anything, so the problem persists.”
The issue isn’t simply that Sony charges a minimum of $25,000 to be featured in a visible position on the PlayStation Store—it’s that this is, for most indie games, the only way to be visible. Without paying, developers are reporting that games get completely lost, which many have told us is in stark contrast to both Microsoft and Nintendo’s stores. While both offer ways to pay for prominence (although we’ve as yet been unable to confirm exact figures), what we keep being told is that they also offer many other free options too.
Another publisher who wished to remain anonymous told us some exact sales figures for one small indie release they named but asked us to withhold. The game sold around 20,000 copies on Xbox, compared to just 7,000 on PlayStation. However, when it came to releasing DLC, the Microsoft console saw 2,000 units shift, while, “On Sony, and [this is] not a fucking joke, until today, 7.”
“If your store doesn’t have a place where players can find new/interesting games,” an indie publisher vents to me, “and you have to literally use the search functionality to find a game, then why the fuck is anyone giving [them] 30%?”
Holy sh*t this all sounds awful.

Sony is mandating that all PS4 games released from July must also run on PS5. That's one way to ensure all new games run on both, but I wonder how extensive their approach to older games will be:

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/...tation-5-compatible-from-july-sony-tells-devs

If a game was originally submitted to Sony before 13th July 2020, any new patch or remaster after that date would not require PS5 compatibility, but it would be "strongly recommended".

If a game was originally submitted to Sony after 13th July 2020, any future patch or remaster to that game would need to keep PS5 compatibility. Once a game is PS5 compatible, it must stay so.

Indies were cool with Andrew House's management. Hades, for example, is the first time in ages that a Supergiant Games title didn't launch on a PlayStation console 🤷‍♂️

Present day Sony doesn't care about indies.

you should read carefully chandoo. games released from july aren't going to be made to run on ps5, its the games that are under development etc need to be submitted to sony from the developers after july 13th which is mandatory so doesn't apply to release per say. its the games that are being developed upon basically so sadly doesnt refer to tlou 2 or even ghost at this time but they could put an enhance on them to run smoothly on the ps5

This new requirement from Sony only applies to games that developers submit to Sony for approval after July 13, not to games that are released after July 13. Because games are usually submitted long before they’re released, this likely won’t affect most games releasing this summer.

[h=1]Sony PlayStation 5 reveal event dated for June 4[/h]

Sony to unveil new games in hourlong presentation

New details on the PlayStation 5 will be revealed on Thursday, June 4, at 4 p.m. EDT, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced on Friday. The reveal event will include a first look at PS5 games, and will be broadcast on YouTube and Twitch.
“The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware,” Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Studios, said on the PlayStation Blog.
“This digital showcase will run for a bit more than an hour and, for the first time, we will all be together virtually experiencing the excitement together. A lack of physical events has given us an amazing opportunity to think differently and bring you on this journey with us, and hopefully, closer than ever before. This is part of our series of PS5 updates and, rest assured, after next week’s showcase, we will still have much to share with you.”
The first details on the PlayStation 5 were announced in April 2019, when lead system architect Mark Cerny laid out the console’s system specifications to Wired. The PS5 will be powered by a CPU based on AMD’s Ryzen Zen 2 processor and a GPU based on AMD’s Radeon RDNA 2 architecture, which will support hardware-accelerated ray tracing and resolutions up to 8K. The PS5 will also come with a solid-state drive, support PlayStation 4 games through backward compatibility, and work with PlayStation VR.
Sony later confirmed a release window for PS5: holidays 2020 — a date the company recently recommitted to.
Since then, Sony has slowly rolled out more information about the next-gen PlayStation. At CES 2020, the company showed off the next-gen console’s logo, which looked unsurprisingly familiar. In March, Cerny provided additional details about the PS5’s CPU, GPU, internal storage, and other hardware features. Sony later revealed the PS5’s controller, the DualSense. And in May, we got our first peek at next-gen PlayStation graphics thanks to Epic Games’ reveal of Unreal Engine 5.
[MENTION=26]Chandoo[/MENTION] ahh missed the date by one day :p

Ah yes, games submitted for approval.

Another thing this tells us is that Sony are expecting cross-gen to go on for a while, they've never had any kind of requirements like this before for PS2 games running on PS3, or PS3 on PS4.

Doesn't change the fact that with Hades Supergiant wanted to adopt an early access model and Jim Ryan has nothing to do with it not launching on PS4 (awww lol). 🤷‍♂️

A couple of things.

1. Everyone's favorite Jason Schrier says there will be PS5 exclusives at the console's launch. Looks like Sony are not taking MS's "everything is cross-gen" approach.

And for what it's worth, he 'liked' a tweet about Demons Souls remake being shown at the PS5 reveal event. So, odds are high we will see what BluePoint has been working on since 2018.

2. Jim Ryan also confirms same thing, commits to give fans games that can 'only be enjoyed on the PS5'.

Sony's Jim Ryan: “It's time to give fans something that can only be enjoyed on PlayStation 5”

https://www.gamesindustry.biz/artic...ing-that-can-only-be-enjoyed-on-playstation-5

3. Multiple developer(s) and publisher(s) are praising the PS5 architecture as 'better architecture than any console'.

On top of all that, developers and publishers continue to praise the design of the PS5. Some have told GamesBeat that it is has a better architecture than any console in history. So studios may find it a joy to work with.

Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.

tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
