in morning there was a lightning strike which struck just outside my hostel... it damaged many of my friends appliances. my lcd wasn't connected to surge protector and that's the only appliance that ain't turning on... what could be the problem. and anyone know of a repairer in rawalpindi who can deal with it?

It depends, what's the make/model of your LCD? In most cases, you'll be out of luck, if a display device goes blank with a surge.

Viewsonic is a popular brand around here. VX2260wm is a new model, I'm sure it'll have a fuse inside it. If the fuse blew, you'll be in luck and might get the monitor running again. I don't know about a repair shop but I'll search around and let you know, if I find any.

Don't know much about repair shops but recently I had the same experience, not with an LCD though. My motherboard's Ethernet slot got toasted along with my DSL modem & adapter because of a HUGE lightning strike. Had to replace the modem & bought a PCI network adapter.

Surges are common over Ethernet and cable lines. Some people like to unplug their cables from devices on a day with lightning storm.

BTW, I've seen some recent stabilizers with Surge protectors and Ethernet Surge protectors in the market. Worth the penny, because you never know... :).

Haha well.... you know when playing MP keera band nai kernay deta. I was sort of relieved that my motherboard didn't die on me because; I had recently RMA'ed it & had gotten a new one in return.

@OP
Check in with the shop where you bought the LCD from, maybe they can help in this regard.

That's good news. Where did you get it fixed? Should be helpful for other members. It may not be your router that's fried, see if the power adapter went kaput instead.
