Okay, so I'm very tempted to buy a new HDTV, had this Samsung in mind, LA46C750

It's gonna be for gaming mostly. Apparently the response time is 2ms.

So, should I?

Get it if you have a decent Gaming PC. Otherwise forget about it (Read ROARK's review of Killzone 3 on it I think).

Apparently the response time is 2ms.
Response time is inadvertently confused with input lag. It actually refers to the amount of time it takes a pixel in an LCD monitor takes to go from one black to white and back to black again. Higher response time means more noticeable ghosting. Higher input lag, on the other hand, means a greater delay in your controller, keyboard or mouse input.

Moving on to your question:

- Should you buy a 3DTV?
- Yes, you should, especially if you're a movie buff or have a PC capable of doing 3D at playable frame rates. Wouldn't recommend it with the PS3, since enabling 3D more often than not results in downgraded visuals (lower resolution, frame rate - that kinda stuff).

- Should you buy a Samsung 3DTV?
- No! Every single Samsung 3DTV out there suffers from tons of input lag. The 3D effect itself also suffers from a lot of crosstalk, dithering, and an unusual color tint. Though, admittedly, the crosstalk issue is there in pretty much every 3DTV out there, it's less significant in some Sony LEDs and Panasonic Plasmas.

- What 3DTV suffers from the least input lag?
- The best thing to do at this point would be to wait for the Sony EX 720 to arrive in Pakistan. Suffers from around 21ms of maximum input lag, which is really good when you consider the lag on the other 3DTVs out there.

It's already out in Europe and the Middle East, and it's only a matter of time before these panels arrive in the local markets here.

I'll take that as a no then :p

I was going to get it for gaming generally. But on my PS3 since I hardly game on the PC. And this particular Samsung was an affordable 46 inch upgrade to my older 40 inch tv.

I can get the Sony 40HX800 for the same price. It's an LED, with 3D. Opinion?

Also, recommend a non-3D HDTV for me. Maybe 3D isn't worth the money right now. Maybe I can get a larger screen regular TV with lesser input lag for the same price as a mediocre HDTV?

Dude CT sums up the 3DTV conundrum perfectly. Right now the technology is premature and the games that support it aren't doing a great job at showcasing. My suggestion is to wait a year or so.

I have a 3DTV and i barely use the 3D option. The response time is great, but unless you output ur audio through optical or a separate high end reciever/amplifier. Your audio is going to be lagging quite noticeably. My TV audio is seriously delayed, it's only when i switch over to my Tritton AX 7.1 Pro headset do i get timely audio.

It's currently a waste of money.

Hold Out for a year or so. Even the TV tech is pretty weak, i have not seen any 3DTV free of ghosting or crosstalk yet.

I hear you both, but I have lost my personal battle with impulse buying :p

Anyway, I might be able to get the Sony 46HX800, which seems comparable to the Sony you recommended Cereby.

And one more thing; can I torrent 3D movies? I mean, will the 3D content work for them?

The HX800 is decent when it comes to displaying 3D content. The crosstalk and color tint are relatively better. Though, it lags at around 30ms (even if you run 2D content), which while not bad, isn't ideal for games like Street Fighter. I would highly recommend waiting for the 40EX720 (or 46EX720, if you want a larger screen) to arrive in the local market. Shouldn't take longer than a month or two at best.

Spec-wise, they're pretty similar i.e. both are LEDs with 3D etc. The main difference is that the input lag on the EX720 falls within a more acceptable range i.e. 16-20ms. Should also cost about the same as the HX800.

And one more thing; can I torrent 3D movies? I mean, will the 3D content work for them?
Yup, there are specific torrents available for 3D movies. In order to run them, you'll need to download Power DVD 10 on your PC. You won't be able to run them on your PS3, however.

@input lag;

The difference between the EX720 and the HX800 is about 10ms, which is about 2/3 of a frame. I can live with that! I mean, my existing TV probably has worse lag, since it's 2-3 years old now.

@Power DVD 10;

I'll ay it on my PC and HDMI it on to the TV, use the glasses and it'll be 3D? Sweet!

What's DLNA? My laptop and that TV have it apparently.

That's true, but I would still recommend that you take your copy of SSF4 along to the Sony center (they usually have a PS3 hooked up to one of their displays) and check whether the lag bothers you on a personal level. 30ms isn't really bothersome, but how it affects you varies from person to person.

Yup, although it won't be the same hdmi 1.4 3D (frame packing) that you get with blu-rays. Instead, these ripped iso/mkv video files conform to an alternate 'side-by-side' (SBS) method for displaying 3D. In other words, the image quality on these video files won't look as awesome as what you get from running an actual 3D blu-ray.

What's DLNA? My laptop and that TV have it apparently.
DLNA is a standard which indicates that your entertainment device is capable of sharing its content with other DLNA-capable devices via a home network (wireless router etc). So basically, your laptop can stream and share content directly do your TV, or even your PS3 for that matter.

country is in jeopardy n you wanna spend thousands on a 3DTV? (sm1)
Love these statements, yes in times of recession and depression. Spending is heavily encouraged.

It's because people don't spend and hoard money for times ahead that the economy screws up so bad.

Let me give you a simple example, no one buys 3Dtvs for 2 years. Shopkeepers lose money, lay off thier staff and close up. Importers close up due to lack of sales, factories close up due to lack of sales. 1000s of people get laid off. More unemployment, lower GDP and lesser income per capita in the country. Higher inflation due to lack of funds and lack of goods. This is the twisted capitalist cycle.

There is a reason that the US put in it's own money to bailout out crashing companies and banks.

So I went ahead and took the plunge.

I played KZ3. Okay, so maybe I might not play the MP on it, but it was mad-fun in single player mode. The bullets whizzing by, just the whole look of e game, it was breathtaking. Yeah, sure it got a little jittery and stuff, but overall the 3D effect more than made up for it.

The effect in BlOps wasn't that good, it made things worse. I might just get the new Motorstorm for this as well.

I need another opinion now. I got a PS3 Slim with it. Should I keep it or sell it? I'm undecided either way.

Also, bailing out banks was a blunder. The money would have had a much better effect if they bailed out medium size businesses instead. Bailing out the banks was political more than anything else. Cocksuckers pay a lot of money to both the political parties come election time.

It was a major blunder, but the reason still stands to keep money circulating.I agree small and medium organizations should have gotten the cash but it is what it is.

If you have a fat model, transfer the data on it and keep the slim. It'll last longer than ur fat model. Money isn't really an issue for you, so why bother. Just sell ur old console.

Score 1 for game pass. I wouldn't pay full price for this at retail either.

About the Microsoft (and Sony) debate, I feel both have become too greedy and losing their minds over corporate greed. Personally, I will never buy any console next gen and switch to PC gaming where democracy reins.
