Rumor: Sony set to unveil redesigned PS Vita with a bigger screen and increased RAM before TGS

While rumors are swirling that Sony is set to bundle the PS Vita with their next-gen console the PS4, another rumor has cropped up and this one talks about a redesigned PS Vita.


Japanese newspaper Tokyo Keizai (translated by TheMagicBox), is reporting that Sony is set to reveal a new PS Vita model just before this year’s Tokyo Game Show (TGS) starts. This new variant is said to be called PCH-2000, will have a 6.3″ OLED display manufacture by Samsung (current PS Vita has a 5″ screen), with the resolution staying put at 960 x 554 pixels.


What’s more, this new model’s RAM will allegedly be increased to 1GB compared to the current version’s 512MB. This is being made to allow more programs to run in the background. However, the amount of RAM used by games will be unchanged, which guarantees that games will be compatible with both current and “new” model of the Vita.


Finally, the redesign is said to be more in line with the PS4′s design and that it will launch with new game titles, too.

Hmm, this comes in when i was on the verge of buying a vita!
Would be obliged, if rumors are true.
Just speculation for now, anyways would be anticipating this on Gamescom, then TGS. Then make up my mind!!

But if display size increases so much with resolution staying the same, then PPI would decrease and it won't be good enough.

Anyways, this rumor is most likely fake. Adding more RAM and Screen doesn't make any sense. The VITA already got a beautiful and perfect screen size for a portable handheld. They might launch a model later with more internal memory but i don't see them upgrading the RAM for now.

VITA doesn't need a price cut or new model, it needs a price cut on the damn memory cards.

6 inch oled could happen....but 1 GB ram upgrade would mean pissing off the people who recently bought a vita...i doubt sony is that dumb. But that also hints towards the PS4 launching with a PSvita bundle being true as sony wants to clear out the old stock.

sucks that i recently bought a vita if they come up with that sort of a redesign, i for one would be pissed off.

TBH, it is selling for lower price at the retail in both EU/US. But the official price cut along with 64 GB MC has been heavily hinted by Sony Insiders but this new news about model came outta nowhere.

BTW a redesign is indeed in the pipeline but won't happen until mid-2014. Courtesy of the same Sony insiders. This rumors hints at a redesign this year, which is completely false.
