I don't think this could be fixed with a driver update. I read on a reputable forum that Nvidia cards have only 1 async module in their architecture, whereas AMD have like 8 or so async modules. AMD have been focused on parallel computing on so long whereas Nvidia have focused mostly on serial computing. Let's see what this driver update can bring though, but I don't have any high hopes for it.

Yes it can't be fixed but as I said performance hit won't be that much after the driver update

That is so great of Nvidia

Oxide Confirms Async Compute Driver Support from NVIDIA - eTeknix

@UmerF turns out it's all fine :p

the performance hit won't be skies and ground.
That's good to know, at least people with 9xx series can now rest properly lol.

GUD ha AMD ka SHOR MACHANA KAAM AGYA  :D
Lol, I know right? Oh well, good marketing for both brands .. they're winning regardless.

That may look good on the paper but if performance isn't there then what's the point, just like AMD had 512bit cards when NVIDIA was still rocking with 128bit cards and still winning, that's why I said before that I'd wait for when real world stuff comes out to be the judge of all this as of right now it's just all speculation specially after latest report of Oxide eating their own words. Just gonna wait and watch now..

^ Isn't the DX12 performance report based on the benchmarking done on an actual game (Ashes of the Singularity)?

Only one game or something so far and with new report if software can fix it, I wouldn't be surprised. It's not gonna affect me personally as I'll move on from 980 Ti to something else but for others with 9xx series it'd suck because they are the latest cards at this moment from the latest series by NVIDIA.

Agreed. For 1 or 1.5 years it won't matter to me because very few games will come out with DX12. And even if I have to run those games at DX12 without any significant improvement, it still won't matter to me because the my 970 is rocking every game at 50-60 fps at max settings.

Others with 960 or 950ti might face a different situation though.

Yeah and you can always replace it with Pascal next year if you get a good deal at your 970 just to be on the safe side :D

The difference between DX11 and DX12 between AMD and NVIDIA is quite noticeable. But for DX12 we will have to see big titles as well, because they only benchmarked Ashes of Singularity yet. we still dont't have many titles, in order to come to final results. but overall AMD showed a Positive DX12 hardware perform at a better rate. While NVIDIA will have to work out on Software to gain the enhanced Benefit of DX12.

Well, 970 and other high End NVidia GPU still performing good, future proof of another 2 years, if NVIDIA retain their support for maxwell. Because what they did to kepler series we all can see. at 1080p 970 is still bang for bucks in that price range.

AMD’s Robert Hallock: “The vast majority of DX12 titles in 2015/2016 are partnering with AMD”

It appears that AMD is trying to capitalize on its GCN architecture and the fact that it’s more future proof than what NVIDIA is currently offering. Not only that, but according to the Head of Global Technical Marketing at AMD, Robert Hallock, the vast majority of DX12 titles in the next two years will be partnering with the red team.
As Robert wrote on a Reddit thread:

“You will find that the vast majority of DX12 titles in 2015/2016 are partnering with AMD. Mantle taught the development world how to work with a low-level API, the consoles use AMD and low-level APIs, and now those seeds are bearing fruit.”

Is this a checkmate? Our guess is that AMD caught NVIDIA off guard. Whether this situation will be reversed once Pascal releases remains to be seen. However, one thing is certain; AMD is fighting back and that’s definitely good news for all consumers. After all, competition is a good thing for all of us.

More competition = more performance and cost-effectiveness

Did y'all see the new Assassin's Creed trailer? They finally made a AC set in Japan & then they put a negro as the male protagonist. Ubisoft is taking cues from Disney, and it isn't gonna end well for them, just like Disney. Go woke, go broke!

if we are moving towards more and more popular trash across platforms that make billions for companies, I'm happy with all the barriers and exclusivity because at least that brings some pressure to create good stuff.
