I have Bahria, SZABIST and Karachi University in mind for my Bachelors(BCS). I know many of you will say go for FAST, but its really far away and given the uncertain situations every now and then in this city, neither I or my parents will allow me. One thing more, are there political issues in Karachi university? I heard many students have died in the mess, so that's a big no no.

And a little info i need aswell, which should be beneficial for my future...BCS or some other? I took computer science in intermediate, not pre-engineering. I have little knowledge about fields..my aim is for software development.

I would recommend u to do Computer Engineering rather than BCS (computer science) because it has both the software & hardware related course in contrast to BCS which has only software related courses !

Apply in NED if u have good percentage ... 2nd choice SSUET !

But I personally recommend SSUET because they give you more exposure towards the practical work ... better labs more equipments & last but not least classes mein AC lage huwe hain ! :D :p

I've just given them dude, but i expect it to be in 70's. SZABIST has 60% for eligibility, right?

Yar software programming is what i wanna do, I believe CS is like a "specialization" in software related stuff, so this is for me.

NED doesn't have BS(CS) programme, does it?. The site only shows BCIT..

Yup ... BCIT is same as BCS but they charge you more fees as compared to the engineering courses. (SEE THEIR WEBSITE/PROSPECTUS FOR MORE INFO)

I got admission in BCIT program but did not want to do in computer science thats why left it !

Meanwhile I got 799/1100 = 72.63% so around 70%+ would be adequate to get admission for BCIT program ...

If programming is your passion, then FAST followed by UBIT/KU should be your choice. KU has fell from the standards from the time I was there. But still, the course plan is fantastic and if you work hard with some of the teachers there, you can really shine.

And I wanna clear out a little "Engineering vs Software Developer" confusion here. Anyone who considers "Engineering" is extra where you get to learn HW and SW and is more "complete" then I find it rather illogical. It's more like jack of all kinda thing where you're not really focused into software engineering and understanding software development as a full qualification. You're thrusted with irrelevant courses from engineering that has absolutely NOTHING to do when you enter the software industry. However if you plan to go into telecom or network administration etc, then perhaps a bit of HW knowledge might come in handy. Otherwise, Financial Accounting, Financial Management, Computer Graphics (directx), etc make a LOT more sense than chemistry and thermodynamics for a Software developer.

If you're at KU or FAST, and focused on programming and development, you'll have a job before your final year ends. If God wills, of course. I passed out as a BS in Comp Science from DCS KU (which is now UBIT KU) in Dec 2007. I had been on a job since 2006.

Thanks Shyber. Yar can you point out the difference between BCIT and BS(CS)?

Karachi University, i dunno man..if things are peaceful there then why not. What about SSUET? I heard NED and SSUET degree holds the most recognition.

NED's BCIT has a nice course outline but many people have told me that the faculty is not impressive at all. Also, the crowd there wouldn't give you enough competition. When you're in a batch, the mindset of your fellows count a lot as well. If they're competitive, passionate about their careers, etc then you'll get polished more. Of course, this has a LOT to do with luck too. :)

What about SSUET? I heard NED and SSUET degree holds the most recognition.
Oh yes, when you're talking from Engineering POV. Take a general survey of the software houses in Karachi and they'll say don't care about the institute as long as the individual is polished himself. Though they do hold Fast and KU in higher esteem with NED having the worst repo of producing decent enough Software Developers.

Yeah, but luckily their influence in the computer department is negligible. Never had any issues with any political parties there. Never been a part of any myself either. Keep SSUET as your backup when you're applying at KU. If FAST is out of the picture then SSUET is your second choice after KU.

KU is asking 55% for eligibility..that's kinda low o_0. And a little question to you, Can you tell me a short procedure for admission criteria? Like suppose i have 55% and i'm eligible for admission, so then test? and i will have to pass in that as-well?..I know in private universities they ask 60% for eligibility and 40% in tests, what about KU?

I'm really out of touch o_O
I gave my entry test in 2003. Check the site for details, perhaps they explain their formula there. They add some percentage of Matric and Inter marks too but it's mostly the test which is considerably challenging and filters out the rubbish quite effectively. Their min criteria might be low but it has to do with the applying batch. Only the top get selected, because of the limited seats. Donno what's the exact quota these days though.

Alan wake 2 is yet to recover it's development costs. Due to no physical release and no steam launch.
You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
