A "Modem" is designed only to work with one computer, But a "Router" is designed to work with multiple computers. So SHIRO is a router & also a modem. Infact any (boxy) thing your service provide provides you is a Router, not a Modem.
you can connect your Modem into a Router to share your connection, because a Router have multiple ports.
Now you will say that SHIRO or Others have only one port, so the answer is, that Modem supports multiple connection, so it may also work as a Router.

Shiro Modem provided by PTCL is both an ADSL Modem and Router. It has option for one connection only but like any other Router it has native support for NAT (Network Access Translation i.e Assigning IP addresses and catering to the Inbound/Outbound requests of computers sharing that internet connection.) All you need to do is buy a 4 port or more KVM switch and plug your modem into it and connect other PC directly with the KVM Switch.

If it was only a modem then one will either have to put up a server that can provide IP addresses to other computers on the local area network or buy a router.

You need to find out line parameters not connection status in that modem page. Crucial ones are Down Stream Line Attenuation and Down Stream Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR)/Margins... Find those values in that modem config. tool accessed by 192.168.1.1

I don't have a ZTE modem (I have a Shiro) otherwise I would have told you exact steps on where to find that info.

In Shiro Config Utility it's in Status>Modem Status.

Someone help me! Im getting 10kbps on torrents now :S !! Even the GREEN icon is there, but still 10kbps on a torrent with 22 seeds and 11 leechers :S !! Abobobilly man it worker at that time but idk whats wrong now :S

Can you post a screen shot of that page?

Ideally
Line Attenuation should be lower than 15.
Margins/SNR should be higher than 25.

It seems your ONU/Distribution Point is too far from exchange (more than 3km and you have a copper telephone line) that's why you are getting bad performance/speed of PTCL DSL.

Don't bother with any other DSL service provider as I believe that your telephone line condition is causing slowdowns. LDN/Maxcom/Micronet won't help until unless your line condition (Margins/SNR & Attenuation gets better).

DS Margine is calculated keeping in mind the value of your downstream rate and at the connection speed u have it should be >15 ( mine varies from 15-30). As of DS Line Attenuation, it should not be more than 45, if the connection is faster than 2Mbps it should be even less, the less the better.

Now as for getting good values, tell me:
1) What Connection u subscribed for?

2) Do u know how far r u from the exchange?

3) Are u using a DSL filter?

4) If u r close enough to the exchange then most probably you have set up the phone lines in the wrong way like 80% of our Paki ppl.

5) Do u have an extension on your phone line?

6) U r on copper wire or ONU?

The ptcl guy who installed it said itll take 2 hours to get stable and blah blah .... Bottom line is, I THINK ptcl sucks .. Will wait till tom morning to see ....

I applied for PTCL when i was on WC, waited for a whole freakin MONTH to get the fkd up PTCL connection, went to their exchange , met the dsl incharge and after seeing the fantastic attitude of these saints, i applied for LinkDotNet and got the connection in 6 days.


Then guess what happened????....After 2 months i got a call : " I am calling from P(huttu)TCL, you applied for the DSL package?"......I said :"Fk u BC"


So, u should have done ur research

After that, beshak disconnect karwa dena. The real difficulty is that you dont know much about the current ZTE modem. Neither do I coz never used it before. A friend of mine also got the same Modem. He invited me in his house, but i didnt got the time to visit him, so never actually understood about this modem.

will go to customer centre on monday.....and will throw modem into ptcl ....people faces.......to terminate the connection...during this whole month iam charged with Rs1200..........and WHAT DID I GOT??.....WASTE OF MY TIME ON PHONE TELLING AND YELLING THEM OO BHAI ,,BHEN....WHEN WILL MY INTERNET CONNECTION SPEED AND STABILITY WILL RESTORE.....!!!!

Man i heard from people PTCL is good and all so just went for it. ... the customer support is full of Abuses will lead to banes ! Ive called them a million times now, either its that god damn music for like 30 mins or they just say ur complain number is this xxx and shit ... They do nothing ! Always say we will send over a person tom and no one shows up ! Im sick of it ! Always transfer my call to the SENIOR HARDWARE DEPARTMENT ... I doubt theres such a dept anyway .. And what happens ? That lame music .... wait forever and no one bothers to answer ... I havent been able to use the internet for more than 15 minutes uptil now ! THANK GOD I DIDNT GET WORLDCALL DISCONNECTED YET ! Else i wouldve been almost dead ! I called them today again, i asked them i want to cancel the connection as im pissed off at ur service, the Abuses will lead to ban said ok give us back the modem and all ... WTF ! Thats CUSTOMER SUPPORT ? GOD DAMN YOU PTCL ! Im returning the modem and all on Monday ... Ive had enough of this ! My connection doesnt even work for 5 minutes now, just stops working in the middle ! First it was the shitty speeds, now this bullcrap ! I know itll keep getting worser and worser ! Im better off with worldcall man ! atleast their service WORKS !

I did tell em that, they said maybe ur line is COPPER, and it IS. So i said replace it then, and he said thats not possible. Get a whole new connection for that ! WTF is that man ! well guys tell me i am using zte modem router only on my computer and there is no sharing of internet between other devices like laptop or xbox360.SO do i need to forward ports to increase performance.And tell me when do we need to forward ports.
