We're certainly living in the dark ages... even Piracy comes with claims of reliability =)

Dark ages?? huh?.

These guys are claiming their dongle being more reliable caz they did all the R&D to find this exploit and finally cracked a system that stood strong for 4 years. All the self-proclaimed hack groups couldn't do anything major (credit goes to geohot for the first right hit though). Now the hack is copied by knock offs who're selling for way less price and these first-$120 dongle guys want to give a lil more like updates etc in their psjb, just to justify their price. So that ppl don't go for the cheaper options.

you don't need wifi for ftp, even a standard lan cable will do the task.
The ps3 and pc just have to be on the same network, thats it.

And again, the current ftp app is done pretty roughly, it'll get polished/ much better apps will come to replace it in due time ;p

ftp over wifi will be slow, use wired connection and get a gigabit ethernet card if you can for faster transfers

get a router and cross connection network cable :/ I heard ppl making transfers at around 100Mbit.


SKFU who is another known hacker in psx scene made some analysis on ps3 registry.

If you read what he said you will realize this psjb is nothing but a hype and soon we will see more things coming our way.

The Cool Stuff

The retail PS3's registry contains all values to unlock the settings which are possible on a test/debug PS3 and even more like QA mode. We can enable those via the registry, but we won't see any effect in the XMB.

That is because we just UNLOCKED it, but different files on dev_flash handle what we can actually SEE in the XMB. So we need to modify them also to fully use debug options on a retail and more.

This can be done by mounting the dev_flash from USB. We need to do this as we can not write to the original dev_flash. So once we can load our customized dev_flash from USB and have modiified our registry, we have a nice way to load a our custom firmwares.

The Crash Report

The registry can contain an crash report which is seperatly splitted with another registry header as explained above. It contains system error messages, for example if you muck up your registry ;-)

PS3 Live USB CFW Theory

While the Jailbreak just changes mountpoints it should be possible to do the same for other places than the BDD, aswell.

For the JB, the drive is remounted @ HDD. So why not mount the dev_flash from USB?

Surely this is possible and I hope to see some action here soon!

So we would have a good solution to test and run custom firmwares as the brick risk is equal zero, because we can just unplug the USB device and the dev_flash is mounted as common - unchanged.

they are talking about changing registry entries and loading there own custom flash_dev since its impossible to change the built in Flash_dev, and fortunatly if that happens we will see CFW which eventually means no more firmware updates will be required to play any game which will launch in future and many many more things, take an example of 360.

I am teaming up with a friend to make few of these devices, but there are some problems:
Firstly a high quality circuit board is required for such small controller, and I know only three PCB fabrication units in Rawalpindi/Islamabad NIE, KRL and AKB first one is cheap but dont have the equipment for high quality board, second one is expensive as for even one board one has to pay a hefty upfront amount as setup charges, and for the third one they charge in thousand of dollars.
secondly the package of all compatible microcontrollers is either QFN or TQFP, which means without special equipment it is extremely difficult to solder them to the circuit board.
we are trying for a workable cheap solution, remember one thing buying the controllers and programming them are the easiest part, above mentioned steps are the difficult ones.
During and after EID we will give the project a try, I have some equipment with which I could make one test board from myself. This I intend to do in EID Holidays. I'll post the results and possibly video once I succeed.

and its based on the at90usbkey. this chipset was the first to used by hackers to get rid of chinese modchips ;p
