Hahahahahah Yesssssss... Everytime I was able to solve a puzzle and would be running to open the safe for the rewards or stuff like that, every fucking time Mr. X would be behind my ass spoiling all the fun.

The better moments of game are when you are not actually engaged in combat. More than anything in the entire game, the sound of Mr. X thudding nearby and possibly into him caused some anxiety (abusing AI notwithstanding).
Yes, X's footsteps should get huge nods in terms of good sound design in the game. You can hear him 5 rooms away and get a somewhat accurate idea how far he is and if he's coming towards you or not with a decent pair of headphones and the game's binaural audio.

No no, I loved the tension of Mr X's approaching footsteps. That anxiety of a closed door and listening to his footsteps getting louder and louder as he nears you was freakin scary. I only hated it when i would figure out the code of a safe to crack and circumvent the whole map to get to the final door only to encounter Mr X there. Fuck. That was the only time I used to hate that sob.
