The "we" in his statement isn't necessarily referring to iD Software. This most probably means that Tim being one of the Creative Directors was overseeing the project but the actual gameplay design, gameplay programming, animations, combat programmers etc was all handled by Avalanche developers. Makes sense because the game is built on Avalanche's propreitary engine, so development credits belong to them as well (unless specifically stated otherwise). This quote from Tim himself doesn't make that tweet suspicious."It's been a great collaboration working with the Gods of FPS at id" - I wonder what iD's exact role in this collaboration was, then. The game doesn't even run on iD's engine.

"we spent about a year on it" - that tweet seems suspicious going by what Tim Willits said.
Whatever the case, let this be an $80 lesson that, even with the possibility of the "Gods of FPS" at the healm of the core mechanics, the game ended up being mediocre for you. So much for "gameplay is king" lol“Avalanche is the primary developer,” Willits responded when I asked about the Just Cause studio’s most significant contribution to Rage 2. “We brought some people in here and there but that team made the game.”
Day's Gone more colorful and vibrant than Rage 2? WtfamIreading
